Udinese starts off tournament play with a big win in the first round over Santos. A closely contested game started out slow with each team generating some chances, but going into halftime with a 0-0 score. The second half would prove to be very different from the first, as Antonio Di Natale opened the scoring early by beating the Santos keeper to a ball headed backwards and slotting it past him into the goal. Santos would tie it up on a nice shot from Leo into the top corner. In the 81st minute, substitute Almen Abdi would score to give the lead back to Udinese, followed shortly by another in the 84th to put Udinese on top for good. Santos would get one more back before the end of the game but Udinese took the game with a 3-2 score.

Good game Roger and good luck in the rest of the tournament

    Almen Abdi 2-1 Udinese

Fulham handled there first match of group play well with a decisive 3-1 victory over fellow Serie A team FC Schalke. The match was back and forth for the first 60+ minutes with no breakthrough until Dempsey connected with John Arne Riise inside of the penalty area. Riise used his heavy boot to blast one passed Ralf Fahrmann for the first goal of the game. Just one minute later Dickson Etuhu found Damien Duff just outside of the 18 and Duff put it into the left side of the net for a stunning second goal. Just when it started to look like Fulham would run away with things, Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar stole the ball from Brede Hangeland and put it behind Mark Schwarzer to bring Schalke back within one. In the 83rd minute Fulham sealed the match when Danny Murphy crossed the ball into the box and Clint Dempsey was all alone on the receiving end. A great match up between Corinthians and Rubin Kazan proved to be a great game. A couple of bounces in a rainy game went Corinthians' way. Great game Cimmy.
