    GAME RECAP

Stuttgart rolled into the Stadium of Light for the opener for both clubs. It was a breezy 63 degrees for the night game. The national anthem was sung by Wham. Sunderland struck right away on a nice cross from Sessegnon to Gyan that beat the Stuttgart GK in the 3rd minute. Gyan almost tucked away another header in the 17th minute, but a great defensive play and quick GK reflexes kept the ball out. In the 20th minute, Gyan was all alone in front and somehow missed the net by 6 or 7 feet to keep it 1-0 midway through the first half. An error by Stuttgart's young GK led to Sunderland's 2nd goal as Sessegnon made the steal and tucked it home from 15 feet. Gordon had to make a huge save off the boot of Cacau who tried to rip it into the corner from just outside the box (see photo). In the 2nd half, Stuttgart turned up the pressure and suffocated the home side, but could not get any into the net. Sunderland got their 4th late on a counter attack rebound by Bentner in the 89th minute. Sunderland now waits for his next opponent to put away the turkey and stuffing and the other one to finish unpacking in his new European home.

    Sunderland 4 - Stuttgart 0

    Shots: Sunderland 12 (10) - Stuttgart 8 (1)
    Possession: Sunderland 43% - Stuttgart 57%
    Tackles: 17 each
    Fouls: Sunderland 2 - Stuttgart 0
    No cards given
    Offsides: Sunderland 0 - Stuttgart 1
    Corners: Sunderland 4 - Stuttgart 1
Pass Accuracy: Sunderland 68% - Stuttgart 78% (Pilky never played on semi assisted before. It was like I had no idea where ball was going)

    MOTM: Sessegnon
Goals: Sessegnon 2, Bendtner 1 and Gyan 1
    Assists: Sessegnon 2
Clean sheet for Gordon. 6 saves on the game. Had to make at least 2 great saves.

This is all the stats I could find.

Good game Frenchie. You were unfortunate on a few of those goals. I'm guessing it was semi assisted passing related. That's gonna be hard for me to get used to. I find manual passing easier. LOL.

not to sound like a dick (Which i probably will anyways) but I'm pretty sure Gyan left Sunderland in the summer to join some Arab team..I also couldn't find him anywhere when I was trying out Sunderland as a potential team.

I know. I had been practicing all my games with Bentnder up top.

Gyan was starting ST though when I sent the invite to Frenchie.

Maybe it was a glitch of some sort.

I was shocked he was there. It was a cool surprise though.

If I made an error, I can rematch with Frenchie if he wants.

I thought they always made you get most recent roster file when you play online?

    Game Recap:
In what can accurately be described as a game that was closer than the scoreline, 1. FC Köln earned the result with a 3-0 win over Galatasaray SK at the RheinEnergieStadion. The game started out extremely even, with both sides feeling the other out. The game's first chance came from Köln superstar and former Bayern München man Lukas Podolski, who rang a shot off the bar in the early going.

Podolski would eventually find the back of the net on a shot from moderate distance in the 13th minute. The strike from the Polish-born forward seemed to ignite Galatasaray, who immediately began peppering Köln keeper Michael Rensing with shots. Rensing would weather this storm admirably, and not long after, Podolski would head in his second from the center of the box on a cross from striker Milivoje Novakovič.Köln would take Podolski's brace to halftime and not look back.

The second half consisted of mostly Köln strikes from distance, most of which were not troubling for Galatasaray. Notably, Podolski flubbed a breakaway chance wide going for his hat trick. Sławomir Peszko would add a third in the dying minutes on a strike from outside the box for Köln, who dominated the shot-taking by a count of 17-5. Despite this edge, Galatasaray had more of the ball.

Köln's defense proved too stifling in the end, leading to a 9.60 match rating for Man of the Match Henrique Sereno, Köln CB. Podolski trailed just behind with a 9.10 rating and the brace. Michael Rensing kept the clean sheet for Köln.

GALATASARAY DEFENDS HOME TURF VS HAMBURGER HV, 4-2
    [IMG]
    Game Recap:
Galatasaray was able to get into the win column on the campaign by weathering an early storm from Hamburger HV on its home turf and pullaway late with a 4-2 victory.

Hamburger HV seemed to be pressing all the right buttons in the early minutes in front a a sellout crowd on a beautiful Turkish afternoon. Jose Paulo Guerrero put his stamp on the match in the 26th minute by turning on an entry pass in the box before blasting a right-footed howitzer past the Galatasaray goalie. The German defenders kept turning away the counter attacks from Galatasaray, and avoided giving up a cheapie goal when Milan Baros missed an emptry netter from a 45-degree angle midway through the first half.

But Baros made up for his gaffe in the dying moments of the half. After an offsides call, Galatasaray moved the ball up the left flank and it seemed harmless enough but nBaros found a bit of breathing room when he collected the cross and lit up the home fans with a goal to send the teams into the break tied at 1.
Within the first 8 minutes of the 2nd half, Galatasaray had scored twice more, as the lethally efficient counter attack found Elmander and Baros again in open space in the box and the Hamburg goalkeeper had no chance.
With the air letting out of the game at 3-1, Galatasaray went to 3 subs at the 62nd minute and the visitors immediately siezed a measure of momentum. Marcus Berg was a menace on the right wing, and one of the only completed crosses of the game found Guerrero's head in the box to make it 3-2 in the 71st minute.

But Hamburger HV was losing its shape as it pressed forward in the final minutes. Baros' dagger from close range in the 80th minute sealed the win for the home side. Baros was man of the match for his hat trick, netting all 3 of his shots on target and getting a 7.80 match rating.

Possession was fairly even for the match but in the end the more quality chances won out.
