THe Dolphins and the Jets met in what was a crucial game for the Dolphins who are competing for the lead in the AFC East. The first quarter started off as a defensive struggle. Neither team was able to sustain any type of offense and the first quarter ended in a 0-0 tie. In the second quarter the Jets opened the scoring midway through the quarter with a 41yd fieldgoal. Miami answered with a 29 yard fieldgoal to tie the game. The Jets were determined to keep the lead though, and after Tannehill threw his second pick of the game the Jets were able to drive for another 32yd fieldgoal to take the lead at halftime Jets 6 - Dolphins 3. In the third quarter Miami scored on a 19yd pass to Fleener to take a 10-6 lead. After the Miami score the defenses once again took over the game. The Jets offense was all but stagnant this quarter, but their defense responded late when they caused a fumble on a punt to the Dolphins which the jets scooped up and ran 30 yards to score a touchdown. The Jets have the lead 13 - 10 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The Jets were feeling pretty good about their chances at the start of the 4th quarter, but then Carson Palmer had an all-time classic breakdown; throwing three interceptions in the quarter allowing the Dolphins to score on a 5yd Peyton Hillis TD run, and a 22yd Fleener TD catch. With the Dophins now enjoying a 24 -13 lead the Jets desperately go for it on 4th and 15 from their own 12 yard line. Fortunately Palmer didn't throw an interception; unfortunately he was sacked for a 7 yard loss giving the Dolphins the ball at the Jets 5yd line with 2:30 left in the game. The Dolphins started shutting the game down at this point, kicking a 23yd fieldgoal, getting a late 22yd touchdown run by Hillis to end the game Dolphins 34 - Jets 13.
