Tampa 27 Oakland 24 Defense Wins Week 1 Tampa came out firing on all cylinders against Oakland as they jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead 2 plays into the game, both long runs by Doug Martin. Dane Honani and the Raiders would respond with a quick TD strike of their own. They would go on to score 17 unawnsered points and take a 24-7 lead in the 2nd. Honani would go 16-20 for 3 TDs in the 1st half alone. Tampa kept their head down though and survived the barrage. The would find the endzone twice before halftime once on a Doug Martin run and once as Mike Glennon found Vincent Jackson in the endzone from about 25 yards out in what would be his only touchdown of the day and final one of the game right before halftime. Oakland went into half with a 24-21 lead. In the 2nd half it was a totally different game. Tampa would finally slow down Honani a bit by getting pressure on him. They repeatedly forced a bad pass or sacked Honani and would finish with 3 sacks on the day. The secondary played a huge role in the game. Tampa would drive down the field but only manage a FG in the 3rd quarter after Glennon threw two costly interceptions. In the 4th Cason would pick off Honani to set up the go ahead FG for Tampa to take its 27-24 lead. The Raiders kept fighting but Revis closed out the game with another late interception and Tampa got its first victory of the season in week 1. POTG: Doug Martin 28 Carries 209 Yards 2 TDs 3 20+
Titans Win in Stunning Fashion Nashville, TN- The Titans and the Patriots squared off in what would be an early test for both teams. The Patriots jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Titans defense was able to keep the Patriots in check. The Titans offense was unable to move the ball and found themselves consistently going 3 and out. The Titans would fail on each of their first 7 third down conversions. This gave the Patriots offense a chance to wear down the Titan defense, and they did exactly that. The Patriots scored 17 more points in the 2nd quarter and the Titans were only able to muster a late field goal to avoid a first half shutout. To open the 2nd half the Titans received the ball and Dietrich Goodell who hadn't been able to return a ball past th 20 yard line yet on the day, took the ball from 4 yards deep in the endzone determined to try again. This time he broke it for a 104 yard TD return. The Titans were feeling like maybe they could make a game of it. Now trailing 24-10 they were within striking distance. They got a stop on the next Patriot possesion and found themselves for the first time all game moving the ball against the Patriots. The drive stalled just after passing the 50 yard line and they were forced to punt. The Patriots then took the ball from deep in their own territory and methodically drove it down the field for a TD pushing there lead to 31-10. The Titans desparately needed a spark or they were about to be blown out. They would find it in the way of turnovers as they were able to force Brady to make errant throws and they capitalized slowly chipping away at the Patriot's lead. On the back of Jacquizz Rodgers who had been entered into the game midway through the 3rd quarter the Titans found themselves trailing by 7 points. For the first time all day the Titans defense forced a 3 and out after forcing the Patriots to lose 13 yards on the possesion. After moving the ball into the Patriot's redzone, Jake Locker found Chris Johnson in the back of the endzone for the game tying score with a little over 4 minutes remianing. The Patriots had no intention of losing the game and they converted multiple 3rd down conversions on their way into Titan territory. Facing a 3rd and 6 the Patriots were able to convert it and force the Titans to start burning their timeouts. With 1st and 10 on the Titan 20, the game seemed all but over. On first down the Titans blitzed what looked like 9 guys and were able to stop the play for a 4 yard loss. Looking to catch the Titans off guard the Patriots used a quick play action pass, but the ball was thrown into the arms of MLB Brad Jones, Brady's fourth interception of the day. The Titans were able to move the ball down the field quickly, and facing a first and 10 inside of field goal range, Locker turned and gave the ball to Jacquizz Rodgers who broke free for a 39 yard score to put the Titans up 38-31. GG kdpnutter it was a wild finish. You definitely outplayed me, I just got lucky with the picks.
Falcons - 30 Saints- 22 The Falcons came into this season knowing that they would have to run the ball and play solid defense to make the playoffs for the first time under new management. In the first game of the season they did just that. The two headed monster of Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter killed the will of the New Orleans front 7, both rushing for 130 on 15 attempts. The defense held the Saints to 387 total yards, which is a win for the Falcons considering how potent that offense in NO can be. The deciding factor in this game was interceptions. The Saints rookie QB Willie Duckett threw 3 picks, while Matty Ice had a bad game efficiency wise (9-20) but did not turn it over once. It was a solid effort all the way around today as Atlanta starts the season on a high note. POTG - Robert Alford: 2 interceptions Next game - at home against the CPU Redskins GG NeuroticTruth

Vikings Outlast Eagles, Hold Off Philly As Time Slowly Expired Philadelphia, PA-- Minnesota traveled into the land of the Eagles, won the toss and decided to play defense first. Philly would put together a decent drive but Pryor throws and interception. The Vikings can't do anything with the turnover as they go three and out. Eagles would build a 17-7 lead at halftime, as the Vikings received the ball to open up the second half. Minnesota would get a FG, then a stop and score to tie the game up heading into the fourth quarter. The Vikings took a 20-17 lead and then the Eagles would comeback and tie the game up with under 5:00 to play. Minnesota started the next possession with a heavy ground attack to try and kill the clock while steadily moving the ball down the field to try and setup for a GW FG. One big play during the drive on either a 2nd or 3rd down and medium, CP dropped back and lofted the ball up to Greg Jennings hoping he would come down with and keep possession instead of getting it ripped away and he did. Inside the 10 with under 1:45 to play the Vikes decided to hand it off to AP, after two timeouts, AP would finally punch it in. Philly was able to get around midfield before some pressure started to get to Pryor and eventually he would throw his 3rd pick into double coverage on a deep throw that came up short of the endzone.
