Wisconsin Sputters To The Finish Line, Takes First 2013 Victory

Wisconsin traveled to Seattle to open the 2013 season against the Washington Huskies. The reigning Big Ten Champions lost some major talent including their Offensive Coordinator so they would be searching for a new identity in this game. They would start the game with the ball and would move it well. The Badgers were able to build a quick 14-0 lead in the 1st quarter. Then they would also a FG early in the 2nd quarter making it 17-0. Wisconsin started to get confident in their new scheme but that would end soon.

Wisconsin's offense got shut down for the rest of the game. They couldn't do anything like they could in the 1st quarter. Fortunately at first, the Badgers still had a strong defensive performance going. However, the Huskies would start to chip away and would get a TD just before halftime to close it to 17-7.

It would then turn into a very defensive 3rd quarter as neither side could do anything and Wisconsin was able to take the 10 point lead into the 4th quarter. It wouldn't last though. Washington would score their 2nd TD early in the 4th to close it to 17-14 and then they would take the lead on their next possession with another TD. Facing a 21-17 deficit with only a few minutes remaining, the Badgers needed their offense to step up. It didn't happen though and Wisconsin ended up punting hoping to get one more chance. Washington was able to move the ball though so it wasn't looking promising. Wisconsin's Ethan Armstrong was able to force a fumble though that DT Jordan Kohout picked up and returned 66 yards for a TD and the 24-21 lead. That would be the final score as Washington was unable to score again.

Upcoming: Wisconsin has 2 bye weeks and then travels to Waco, TX to face the Bears of Baylor. The Badgers will need to utilize these 2 bye weeks to improve their offense.
