EMU started off the season with an 11:45 pm EST kick-off. ULM's 4 and 5 wide receiver spreads with no huddle offense was to much for EMU to handle driving down the field and scoring on the opening drive. EMU would counter in 1 play 74 yard pass for a TD. Again ULM's set with no huddle was tiring out the EMU defense fast. They would score but miss the extra point. EMU would drive the field and score to take a 14-13 lead with 4:26 left in the 2nd quarter. On a 3rd and 7 EMU would call blitz, Hit the QB causing him to fumble, and EMU would recover. EMU would score. On the ensuing kick-off ULM would fumble again and EMU would recover with the offense coming on the field and scoring yet another touchdown. At that piont you could fell the momentum shift, and EMU would start to pound the ball out on the ground wearing down ULM's defense. EMU would roll 38-26. EMU represented the MAC well in week 1 starting off with a win.

SMU smacked North Texas. We showed them how a real Texas team plays. Shouldn't even be a rivalry game when one team is getting smacked like that. Kyle Pardon was nearly perfect. Had a rating over 300. Threw for over 300 yards and had over 200 yards rushing. Guess the Mean Green wasn't quite what they said they were.
