    BCS Shake-up!!!

    #16 Florida 28 - UCF 33

These are the games that the powerhouses schedule earlyso their teams can get prepared to face tougher competion. There is always that rare chance that thiss will back-fire on you. And that would be the case as the UCF Knights took down the mighty Gators in a "knock down, drag out" brawl.

1st quarter started as it should with the Gators scoring on a 57 yard pass, breaking 4 tackles along the way. The Knights would have to respond quickly to kill the momentum. Que up Jarrett Swaby, who jumped the route on the 1st play of the 2nd Gator drive and takes it to the house. Brighthouse Stadium was a rockin' after that. In no way did this slow down the Gators, if anything it just woke them up. If UCF could just match them score for score, they should be alright. This battle would go on back and forth, with the Knights losing battles and settling for FG's but points are points. Score at half, 28-24 Gators.
The second half was very strange compared to the 1st. All of a sudden the game is a defensive war. Turnovers are key as the Knights walk away with 2 huge fumble recoveries. Kicker Jamie Boyle was called upon in the 2nd half to keep adding up points. 24, 43, 27 yards to give the Knight the 5 points they needed for the win.
This game is a big boost to this team and the program as the school had set this as one of their coaching goals.

    Jeffery Godfrey 22-33 / 304 / 0TD / 1INT

    Jonathan Davis 20 / 79 / 1TD
    Brandon Davis 14 / 49 / 0TD

    Josh Wright 10 /173 /0TD
    Jonathan Davis 6 /58 /0 TD
    Quincy McDuffie 2 /36 /0 TD

Next week, The Knights face ULL. Hopefully the step down in competition will give them a chance to lick their wounds and prepare for the conference opener against Marshall week 3.

Senior running back leads Owls comeback

In the first game of Coach TTUBiz's tenure, Rice faced off against 99 OVR Robert Griffin and the Baylor Bears. Though Griffin left the game early with an injury, the Bears raced to a 28-7 lead late in the 2nd quarter. The Owls clawed back though, pulling to within 38-35 with a few minutes left to go in the game. After a Rice TD with two minutes left in the game, the game was thought to be over in Waco. However, Rice senior QB Taylor Cook had other things in mind. Cook led the team down the field for a quick TD and used no time outs. Trailing 45-42, Coach TTUBiz faced a decision: try an onside kick that would likely fail, or take his chances on defense with 3 TO's. TTUBiz gave his defense the vote of confidence, and it worked. A quick three and out resulted in Rice getting the ball back with a little over a minute left. Cook once again led the team down the field in quick fashion, and McGuffie punched it in from a yard out with 17 seconds left, virtually sealing a rice win. McGuffie was the player of the game after carrying the ball 18 times for 205 yards and 4 touchdowns. Rice plays in Ruston against the Bulldogs of Louisana Tech next week.

    Taylor Cook, QB - 18/22, 293 yards, 2 TD's

    Sam McGuffie, RB - 18 rushes, 205 yards, 4 TD's
Charles Ross, RB - 7 rushes, 49 yards

Donte Moore, WR - 4 receptions, 76 yards
Matt Dawson, WR - 3 receptions, 73 yards, 1 TD

Paul Porras, SS - 10 tackles (9 solo)
Jared Williams, RE - 4 tackles, 2 sacks

This is what happens when a frog decides to get on the road when a Mustang is coming through. The Horned Toads were trampled by the herd of Mustangs 42-23. The Mustangs SR QB Padron simply picked the TCU defense apart. They blitzed, they zoned, they ran man, but in this one frankly it didn't matter. 6 different WRs had at least 2 catches, and 3 different WRs caught TD passes. This game, Padron had a passer rating of 236, a little bit down from his 300+ rating against North Texas. TCU did show SMU some holes they possibly have and the Mustangs will need to patch that up before they hit full stride.
