The Chargers beat the Saints on their home turf 38-16

The Chargers pick up their second win in a row to bring their record to 5-6 and are making a late season push for the wildcard. This was also the Chargers second victory against the Saints (the last one ending in a last second FG by the Bolts to win it). Coach Ski said it felt good to win but he has never coached a game where he was so unsuccessful on offense moving the ball and so uneasy throughout the entire game and come up with this kind of win margin! It came down to great Chargers defense and Turnovers, Turnovers, Turnovers!!!

The Saints got the ball first and threw a quick interception. The Chargers were in FG range and threw an interception of their own on third down! The rest of the opening quarter was back and forth until Ledbetter threw his second interception of the game to Adam Jones who took it 53 yards to the house making it 7-0 Chargers lead. The second quarter was all about the Saints ball control and their defense completely shutting down anything the Chargers were trying to do. Chargers punted on numerous occasions in the first half and were completely shut down. The Bolts defense came up bick twice in the redzone limiting the Saints to only FG's but they added a TD Run by Sproles. Despite the Saints dominating time of possession during the first half the Chargers were able to get to half-time within one score (7-13).

At half-time the Chargers realized their problem..... They needed to figure out how to beat the press and nothing was working at all. They decided to target TE's and slot receivers during their first possession of the second half and Hernandez and Maechem had some huge plays to drive the Chargers down the field. Ryan Matthews caught a 7 yard TD pass and had a wide open trot into the end-zone giving the Chargers the lead 14-13. At the end of the quarter Hartley nailed a 47 yarder to give the Saints the lead once again 14-16. The Chargers continued to hit their inside receivers which forced the Saints to back off on a few defensive plays and the Rivers took advantage. The Chargers also found that the comeback rout was particularly effective against press corners and added on a few more first downs. The Chargers would score on a QB Run up the middle with about 7 minutes left in the game making the score 21-16 Chargers lead. A huge forced fumble would give the Chargers great field position and they opted to settle for a FG to give them an 8 piont lead with 3 minutes to go 24-16.

With a chance for Ledbetter to tie it up second year SS P. Fluizard picked him off and returned it for a 25 yard TD! The next play Ledbetter threw the same rout and Fluizard picked him off again and took it 30 yards to pay dirt making the final score Chargers: 38 Saints: 16

Player of the Game: Paul Fluizard 2 interceptions, 2 TD's, 1 FF, 4 tackles.

The Chargers defense had 4 interceptions and 3 FF in this one making up for the awful day the Chargers had on offense.

I'm not gonna lie, your medication suggestion a few weeks ago on the forums made me especially want to bring home the victory in this one. This victory was sweet but it really could have gone either way and was a lot closer than the scoreboard suggests.
