    Second Chance for San Francisco
    49ers win 29-28

It was a tale of two half in San Francisco as the 49ers led 13-0 at the break. San Francisco built its lead on the strength of its defense, who opened the scoring on a INT return by Tarell Brown. The 49ers defense continued to stifle the Rams attack, but instead of putting the game out of reach, settled for two FGs.

The game turned on the 49ers first possession of the second half, when the Rams intercepted 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick and returned the interception for a touchdown to close the gap to 13-7. Then, on the ensuing possession, the Rams forced a fumble which they returned inside the 10 yard line of San Francisco. A few plays later, the Rams had their first lead of the day, 14-13. With the 49ers offense continuing to struggle, St Louis took possession looking to increase its slim lead. On the drive, HB Steven Jackson suffered an injury which forced him out for the remainder of the game, which looked to hamper the St Louis rushing attack. Nevertheless, the Rams didn't miss a beat as backup HB Brandon Lafontant stepped right in and scored on a 42 yard scamper. When it was all set and done, the Rams had scored 21 third quarter points to take a 21-13 lead.

After cutting the lead to one point early in the fourth, the 49ers found themselves with a chance to win late as they began to drive with under four minutes left to play. However, another fumble gave the Rams possession and a change to increase the slim lead. A TD pass to TE Cameron Morrah with just over two minutes to go, extended the Rams lead to 28-20, putting them in a better position to win the game. San Francisco continued to battle, going to the air before scoring with under a minute to go. Yet, a missed two-point conversion by San Francisco put them in the unenviable position of needed an onside kick recovery. Miraculously, the 49ers recovered the onside kick and drove down the field, including converting on 4th down, before settling for the game-winning kick.

BrewBomber, good game. It was really two separate games. Your defense held up pretty good in the first half considering you that they were on the field for the majority of the time. Then, once you got the first TD in the second half you really dominated the action. I was lucky to get the onside kick.
