Vikings Redeem Week 7 Loss; Move Back to .500

Minneapolis, MN - The Vikings & Lions would meet in Week 9, just two weeks removed from their previous match-up that was won, in decisive fashion, by the Lions in Detroit 40-28. The Vikings came ready to redeem themselves, and hoped to climb back into the NFC North race sitting at 3-4 in what has been a rough season thus far.

The Vikings came out and set the tone early, forcing a fumble on the Lions opening kickoff. Less than 3 minutes later, AP would score from 4 yards out to put the Vikings up early, 7-0. After a 3 and out by the Lions, Minnesota would put together a 6-minute drive that was capped off by another TD - a 4 yard catch by TE Dustin Keller from Romo. Score after 1 quarter - 14-0 in favor of MN.

The Lions would finally put a drive together early in the 2nd, and scored on a 15-yard TD catch by TE Pettigrew from Stafford. The Vikings would then put together another long, time-consuming drive (6 minutes) that resulted in 6 more points, this time from a 1-yd TD run by Toby Gerhart. AP was lost on the drive for the game with a concussion. The Lions would strike back with a nice 2-minute drive, capped by an 18-yd TD pass to Walker Stream. Score at half - 21-14 in favor of MN.

The second half was dominated by tough D and ball control by the Vikings. Romo was near perfect on the day (22 of 27), and the Lions D just couldn't get off the filed all night (Vikings were 11 of 14 on third downs). Minnesota would score 10 in the 3rd quarter - a FG and a 4-yard toss by 3rd string RB Marcus Ilory. Score after 3 - 31-14.

The lone bright spot for the Lions came early in the 4th quarter - a 100-yd kickoff return TD by Joseph Malone-Huff, who amassed 295 yards on 8 kickoff returns for the day. Vikings would also score twice in the quarter. Final Score: 45-21 in favor of MN.

Great game, Anthrax78. This has been a nice rivalry this season; hope to see you in the NFC North next year as well...
