Wisconsin Falls Short In Upset Bid, 38-28
"This loss sucks", said Coach Wayers after the game. Only trailing 14-9 going into halftime, the Badgers felt confident about where they were in that point of the game. "We had a lot of momentum, we were able to score 2 field goals in the last 11 seconds before halftime", Wayers said. But UCLA took the opening kickoff right down the field for a TD and after a Badger punt, they again marched down the field for another TD. Being down 31-9 going into the 4th quarter, Wisconsin was able to make the game close by scoring 3 TDs in the 4th. The main point in the game for the Badgers was the 2 INTs for TDs that really hindered the game for the Badgers. "You take those two pick sixes away and its a different ball game", Wayers said. "I came into this game wanting to establish the ground game but that didn't happen, and once we got down late I abandoned it all together", Wayers added. Up next for the Badgers, a trip to Blacksburg to face Virginia Tech.
Freshman Marques DeLuca had a great first game for the Badgers grabbing 8 balls for 135 yards.
Senior QB Bart Houston went 36 for 56, 523 yards with 2 TDs and 2 INTs.
#22 Cal came into Death Valley and walked away with a stunning upset over the #7 LSU Tigers. Looking at the loss today, disgusts coach CA. 2 fumbles by JR QB Anthony Jennings and 2 interceptions, 1 a pick six, gave the game to the Cal Bears. Pinning the Bears down at their 1 yard line, Khalfani Muhammad ran for 99 yards up the middle untouched. He finished with 4 carries for 120 yards.
That set up a 14-3 nightmare. Cal blitzed all day with a 3-3-5 look and it was not pretty. We were able to come back and take the lead early in the 4th. Cal's Zach Kline scrambled on a read option and put the game at 21-17. We could not capitalize when Jennings lost the ball again. Cal ran the clock out.
Lincoln Nebraska; The Cornhuskers witnessed the CPU bringing the "Cheese" by the truck load on opening day as The Children of the Corn held on to a 45-35 victory over Fresno State to start Season 4 in CTG. Nebraska QB Tony Armstrong Jr went 14-16 for 217 yards through the air and a pair of TD's and racked up 50 yards on the ground totaling for a whopping 242.6 QBR. Senior RB Terrell Newby ran the rock for 116 yards and 3 TD's, while 5 different receivers touched the football on Saturday's victory. This game was a barnburner all the way down to the last drive and the CPU just ran out of cheese and had to punt for the first time late in the 4th. Coach Third celebrated as he usually does by slamming a cold beer, crushing the can and walking off. Corn wins!!!
