Rams came into this game with not knowing what to expect. First game under a new coach, and it showed from the start as the Panthers jumped out to an early 21-0 lead. The Rams never gave up though, even after being down 28-3. They slowly clawed their way back into it on the legs of Steven Jackson. The 1st half ended down 28-10. The third qtr had the Rams treading water as they exchanged a TD with the Panthers. The 4th qtr is where it got interesting. Down 35-17, the Rams expected the Panthers to come out running. To their surprise, the Panthers kept to the air. After a FG, the Rams forced an errant throw that was picked off by George lloka who returned it 56 yards to cut the deficit to 35-27. The Panthers came out passing again and the Rams forced another turnover which set up a 22 yard TD pass to 2nd string TE Cameron Morrah. Score was now 35-33 with under 2 minutes left. Panthers ran first play and Rams had to burn a timeout. Panthers passed on 2nd and 3rd downs but up came a 4th and 3 at their own 47. They decided to go for it but thought better of it and called a timeout and punted. On the first play from scrimmage Sam Bradford overthrew Steve Smith but TE Bryan Vereen caught the errant pass up the sideline for a huge gain of 76 yards. He could have scored the go ahead touchdown, but there was 50+ seconds on the clock and downed it at the 4 yard line. Carolina was forced to use its last timeout and the Rams kneeled the cock down to 4 seconds to hit the game winning FG. It split the uprights as time expired.
