Emile Heskey tap - in earns Villa all 3 points in Cup opener!
    Bilbao, Spain
Aston Villa came into this game not knowing what to expect from Bilbao; what they did know was that they needed to limit the crosses into Llorente to have any chance in this game. Villa would take the lead in the 31st minute after a barrage of missed chances including hitting the woodwork twice, before Agbonlahor would play Darren Bent in as he cooly slotted past Iraizoz to give the visitors the 1-0 lead at the break.
70 minutes into the game Villa decided to bring in Heskey, hoping that his ability to hold up play uptop would be useful as the team tried to keep hold of that slender lead. With 2 minutes left however, disaster struck as Alan Hutton was penalized for impeding the Bilbao winger's run, and Llorente would make no mistake, leveling the score as he went racing to celebrate with the home fans who believed their team had done enough for the draw. However, with virtually no time left in the game N'Zogbia raced down the left, crossing it into Darren Bent who got JUST enough on the header for it to elude the goalkeeper and fall right into the path of Heskey, who could not miss as he walked it into the goal before smashing the ball into the net. As the final whistle blew the English team knew they got away with one here and that they would have to play much better to continue their manager's "cup king" status; while the Bilbao faithful will be heartbroken that their side could not pull off the major upset.
GG danwin and good luck in your other 2 group games.

    Match Summary:
TSG Hoffenheim open their TFS Coppa campaign with a road win over Serie C side Bolton. Goals from both center backs and a S. Salihovic penalty were enough for the visiting Germans to grab all 3 points in their first group match. With remaining group matches against Montpellier and Fiorentina, these points could prove to be vital for TSG's advancement hopes.

Werder Bremen Kicks Off Group A With 3 Points
After a 4-1 Bremen win in Matchweek 1 of Serie A league play, the two German clubs were at it again this week in the Coppa. In their second trip to Bremen, Koln knew they needed a strong start. But in just the third minute, it appeared Bremen was about to grab the early lead. Marko Marin attempted a pass to a wide open Claudio Pizarro in front of net, but Koln defender Sereno was there to get a touch on the ball and let Rensing eventually fall on it. The two clubs then played a defensive battle for the remainder of the match, with neither side finding the net. "Our build-up was poor," noted Coach Bronc. "Too many times we just gave away possession instead building up a methodical attack." But that changed in the 79th minute. With the defense drawn to Pizarro with the ball just outside the box, defensive midfielder Philipp Bargfrede found an opening and sprinted toward the box. Pizarro dished in the pass, and Bargfrede calmly put the ball past the keeper for the game's lone goal. Lukas Podolski came close to equalizing in the 87th minute on a beautiful curler, but the shot narrowly missed the target. Bargfrede's goal was the lone shot in the 18-yard box for either team, as defense ruled this match. Next up on their Coppa schedule, Werder Bremen will face the new and improved Serie B side Palermo.

SRC and I were having problems connecting with each other last night but managed to play two halves this morning

    Fiorentina 1 Montpellier 3

First half disconnected in injury time with him up 1-0 thru a phantom Jovatic penalty.
Giroud picked up a yellow for being overly aggressive.
We connected for the 2nd half and Montpellier turned on the heat

Goals from Utaka Giroud and a second from Utaka sealed the deal. His keeper also made
    Some big saves.
    Assists were Camara 2, Ait-Fana.
SRC's 5 in the back was tough to crack early but I knew I had to push in the second.
    GG SRC good luck

I might play some-what aggressive but not nearly enough to rack up 261 tackles in a game. I think that should be 26.

VfL Wolfsburg Earns 3 Points In Wet Coppa Debut
    [IMG]
On a cold and rainy night, VfL Wolfsburg faced off against Everton in their first ever TFS Coppa Tradizione match in Group B in what has been dubbed the "Group of Life". With Everton being a Serie B club, VfL Wolfsburg was the underdog in this match up as the squad from Serie C did not know what to expect against tougher competition. Everton showed them exactly why they're a Serie B club as Marouane Fellaini was able to pick up a deflected shot off of Marco Russ defending the goal and easily put it in the back of the net past Benaglio for a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute. VfL Wolfsburg quickly gathered themselves after going down a goal and Mandzukic was able to receive a well placed pass at the top of the box, turn around to dribble around a defender and then send a screaming scorcher in the upper left corner of the goal to equalize in the 30th minute. After halftime the rain was still pouring down as both clubs took the pitch. Not too long after the break, Vieirinha was able to find Giovanni Sio streaking towards the net with a lob pass as Giovanni broke the tied score with a header. The rest of the match was a very heated exchange of tackles with equal possession as VfL Wolfsburg had to give it their all to hold off Everton from equalizing the match. The rain was coming down hard and it was evident that all the players were worn out from the bad weather and tough play. Luckily VfL Wolfsburg was able to avoid a few brilliant shots on target and earn the first three points in their TFS Coppa Tradizione debut.

A strong start from Spartak Moscow saw them jump out to a two goal lead in the first ten minutes, as an early cross to Ari in the third minute and a through ball to Welliton in the 11th both found the back of the net. Spartak was able to add one more just before halftime as Eminike found some space inside the box to finish. A defensive switch at halftime didn't stop Eminike from grabbing his second as he volleyed home off a corner 10 minutes after halftime to give the hosts a 4 goal advantage. Stuttgart woke up after that and buried two before the final whistle blew, but the great start from Spartak allowed them to take a crucial three points in their first cup match.
Good game Frenchie1916 , good luck in the next two.

In a case of Sibling Rivalry- Rennes and Fulham walk away from the match sharing the spoils. Y. Hadjii finds J Kembo Ekoko with a looping cross and Kembo finishes with a volley. Schwarzer manages to get his body in front of the shot but was unable to stop the ball from going into the Net. Fulham answers, as J. Riise beats L. Danze and sets up the American C. Dempsey who managed to keep the Defender on his back and scores an equalizer. Rennes had more opportunities on goal but were unable to win outright as Fulham bunkered down on their half for most of the match. Rennes is still looking for their First win in all competition - as they once again end a match in a draw.
