    GK Begovic
    MOTM Crouch 8.9
Back and forth battle early in the first half with neither team gaining too much possession or momentum until mid way though the half with Jones finding space in the Sunderland box. Sunderland must have still been thinking about the first goal because two minutes later Crouch golder head was found on the set piece from the corner to end scoring in the first half 2-Nill Stoke City.

Sunderland would attempt most their shots in the second half as stoke would collapse their team down and play defensive ball. Sunderland would make good effort but it seems Stoke was there on every long pass or header. Crouch would score again in the second half, this time on a counter attack cross from CM Whelan to go up 3. Stoke would finish the game strong and secure the shutout in a great season opening upset shutout.

GG juanchoCT14, Gl the rest of the season and im looking forward to the return leg.

Werder Bremen Starts Season With A Statement
After plenty of friendlies to get back in shape, Werder Bremen started Season 5 today in a match against RedAL and TSG Hoffenheim. Werder Bremen debuted in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Aaron Hunt earning his first start under Coach Bronc at the expense of Marko Arnautovic, the striker who has failed to live up to expectations in two seasons. The match got off to a slow start, as both defenses stifled any offensive rhythm. In the first half, the two German clubs combined for 0 shots on target, while Bremen didn't even record a single shot period. But the tide started to turn Werder's way in the second half. Hunt and defensive midfielder Aleksandar Ignjovski, who also made his first start in three seasons with Bremen, each had opportunities early in the half, but both ended up misfiring. But then in the 61st minute, Bremen broke through with the opening goal. Mehmet Ekici kicked in a short cross, and Aaron Hunt was there to head it in. Claudio Pizarro doubled the lead in the 77th minute, taking on the Hoffenheim defense before curling in a shot from a tough angle. Pizarro would score another to extend the lead to 3-0 in the 85th minute, and that was enough to seal the victory for Bremen. Coach Bronc was excited to see his team looking sharp, and the club will next face FC Koln and Aston Villa later this week.

Köln win their debut match in the top flight, but only by the skin of their teeth. A missed penalty by Podolski early on was a sure bad omen, but Novakovic was able to head one home on a nice cross by Peszko on the best interplay by the Billy Goats all game. juanchoCT14 kept breathing down my neck, and at least two game changing saves by Rensing kept me alive. All in all, slightly fortunate to escape with three as perhaps a draw was just. Nice game Juancho and good luck this season!

Bremen Caps Off Week With 7 Points
It's been quite a week for Bremen to start out the new league season. The club first took down TSG Hoffenheim 3-0, then proceeded to score in the 90th minute to force a draw against Aston Villa. In the final match of the week, Bremen showed once again they were determined to rack up points early in the season. Werder started strong early in the match against 1. FC Koln, but could not break through right out of the gate. But 21 minutes in, Claudio Pizarro put the club up 1-0. Just four minutes later, Aaron Hunt would score his second goal of the campaign to make it 2-0. It was smooth sailing for Bremen, but just before the half, Koln came back with a cross that found Novakovic in the box. The striker converted the header, and shortened the lead to just one. It wasn't long before Werder answered back however. Pizarro notched his second goal of the match, this time heading in a short cross from Hunt. Finally, to cap off the hat-trick, Pizarro received a pass from Lukas Schmitz in the box and ripped it into the net. The goal sealed the victory and gives Pizarro 5 goals in the first matchweek. Now with 7 points after the first three games of the season, Werder Bremen will hope to continue its success next matchweek against Borussia Monchengladbach, Spartak Moscow, and Corinthians.

Yea i knew I should have checked out the moves done by the team. I was excited at the chance to have Robbie Keane before I realized he wasn't even on the updated rosters since it was only a short loan too.

Spartak had to come back from an early deficit to get the points in this game, as Aston Villa started off quickly. A breakaway for Bent was saved by Dikan but Abonglahor was there to clean up the miss from a difficult angle to put Villa up in just the 8th minute. Spartak would create a few chances in the first half, but could not capitalize. The second half, however, turned things around, as Welliton was able to level the score with a rebound header off of a corner. Shortly after, Spartak was awarded a penalty, but Kombarov was unable to convert as Given made a great save to keep things level. They would keep at it, and finally be rewarded with a game winner off the foot of Welliton in the 87th minute as he curled in a beautiful shot from range.

Aston Villa overcome halftime deficit to get the team's first win this season
Looking for answers Villa decided to come out in a new-look 4-5-1 formation, and it looked to be working early on as Agbonlahor was able to race past the Stoke defense and play a perfect pass into the path of Bent, who made no mistake in the 17th minute making it 1-0 to Villa. Stoke would respond immediately however as Etherington was able to shake free and deliver a cross in to Beanstalk Crouch, who made no mistake leveling the score. Kenwyne Jones would send the home fans into euphoria on the stroke of halftime as he was able to shoot a powerful low drive on the edge of the box to make it 2-1 at half.
Sticking to their 4-5-1 formation Villa found little success in creating enough scoring chances to get back in the game, so the coach decided to switch it up again on the 60th minute, going to a 4-4-2 diamond formation; slotting Agbonlahor next to Bent and bringing in Albrighton to add more of an offensive threat to the team, and it paid off immediately as Darren Bent was able to return the favor to Gabby, passing him the ball in the box and letting him do the rest, cooly slotting it past the keeper to level the scores. Not content with only a point Villa pushed on, and in the 76th minute Bent was able to cross in a ball that was met by Agbonlahor's head, putting the Villians back in the lead. Darren Bent would settle matters in the 80th minute with a patented daisy-cutter shot from outside the box which flew by the Stoke keeper. 4-2 Villa at the final whistle and the team can finally take a breath as they now have 5 points in 4 games.

    MOTM D. Kombarov 7.1
For the second game in a row, the Spartak defense was beaten early, but for the second game in a row Spartak came back from the early deficit to grab all three points. A great run in from the wing by Babel beat Dikan on the near post to give Hoffenheim the early lead, but Spartak came back right away as Ari headed one home 8 minutes later on a cross from Kombarov. In the 27th minute, Spartak was awarded a penalty that many people may deem questionable, but the referee determined Welliton was impeded on his shot attempt and Kombarov was able to convert from the spot. Eminike added one more before halftime to make it 3-1. In the second half, Hoffenheim was able to get one back on a defensive turnover, but the Spartak defense clamped down after that and held on for the 3-2 victory.

    Clean Sheet GK Sorenstien
    MOTM GK Sorenstien 9.9
Once again Stoke City's Vanilla Guerrilla Robert Crouch showed up big in the first match week of the 5th season of Serie A. Increasing his goal tally to 6 though 3 games brought the Potters a much needed win after getting beat down in the last game by Aston Villa 2-4. Before Stade realized, Crouch had his trick and was off to the bench being replaced by a smaller much faster forward as Stoke collapsed into their defensive third for the second half. GK Sorenstien was given his first start of the season after Stokes starting GK Borgevic was embarrassed vs Villa and Sorenstien kept the job after the game, posting another clean sheet for the Potters. GG HokieNYC i am looking forward to the rematch.

RedAL925 Me and hokie had a question about 5-3-2 formation and its legality in Serie A. I used it thinking only "extreme custom formations" were banned and hokie thinks its a banned formation.I used the generic one in the formation list pregame. Ill take the yellow card if it is banned, i just dont want to use it vs somebody else. FYI, checked "rulebook" and "faq" threads but neither have anything but a blank page. i think something is wrong with the xfer code from google docs to tso.

personally my opinion, any formation preloaded by the game should be fine, its just the custom formations designed to overload an area of the field, or put players in an unusual position to confuse the AI that are not allowed. if the formation is a team default or a generic preload from the list, i wouldn't have an issue with it.

you want to wait for a ruling before starting our game? personally if you run with any of the generics i'm good with it, but if you want to wait for a definite, your call.
