    PROMOTION/RELEGATION UPDATE #1
    Midseason update

    SERIE A
    *all teams with 11 GP

Spartak Moscow (31 Pts) are the undoubted title favorites entering the second half of league play. The Russian side has gone unbeaten in their first 11 games, with their only blemish a draw against Werder Bremen. Ajax (24), PSV Eindhoven (23) and Flamengo (21) will need to hope for a slip-up in order to get back in the race.

In the relegation battle, Montpellier (12) have shook off a slow start to climb up to 8th, sitting three points clear of 9th place Stoke City (9). The surprise of the season is 10th place Werder Bremen (8) who could be in danger of falling out of the top flight if results continue to go the way they have. Both Fulham (4) and Corinthians (2) seem destined for a return to Serie B.

    SERIE B
    *all teams with 10 GP

The automatic promotion place is shared by two clubs. Parma (22) are unbeaten in 10, but have suffered 4 draws. Dinamo Moscow (22) are arguably the hottest side in the league, having climbed to the top of the table and survived the Group of Death in Coppa play. Sao Paulo (17) are not far behind, and hold the 3rd and final promotion place. The roller-coaster ride that is QPR (15) are once again sitting on cusp of glory, with Olympiakos (14) and VfL Wolfsburg (13) still in the chase.

Bologna (11) are 4 points clear of the drop zone, while SC Braga (9) have climbed to 8th afar a rough first half. Aston Villa (7) and a disappointing Santos FC (7) occupy the relegation places, but both have the time and talent to dig themselves out.

    SERIE C

Rubin Kazan (28 Pts, 10 GP) are cruising to promotion, unbeaten in 10 with only one draw. Cagliari (20, 10) are eight points adrift, but would be promoted if the season ended today. Third place VfB Stuttgart (16, 10) cannot be counted out just yet, but will need to be wary of Stade Rennes (15, 10) and LA Galaxy (15, 10) behind them.

    PROMOTION/RELEGATION UPDATE #2
    As of 7.31.12

    SERIE A

The title race seems to be all but wrapped up. Spartak Moscow (45 Pts, 19 GP) have opened a large gap over the 3 challengers, with Ajax (33, 15) still mathematically alive. Flamengo (33, 17) made a late push but won't have enough, while PSV Eindhoven (32, 18) faded down the stretch.

All the action is in the relegation scrap heap, where 6 points separate 7th from 11th. Sunderland (16, 12) should survive, as should surprise strugglers Werder Bremen (15, 15). New boys Montpellier (15, 17) sit 9th, one spot and one point clear of the pro/rel playoff spot, occupied by fellow newcomers Fulham (14, 16). Stoke City (10, 14) could make a late push to come out of the mire, while Corinthians (6, 16), despite getting their first win of the season, will almost assuredly suffer the drop.

    SERIE B

Both Parma (29 Pts, 14 GP) and Dinamo Moscow (27, 13) seem like locks for promotion, but there's only one automatic spot to be had between the teams. The race for 3rd is a 3-team race, with Sao Paulo (23, 13) hold the advantage in both ponits and games in hand over VfL Wolfsburg (22, 15) and perennial almost club QPR (22, 15).

With the surprise midseason resignation of Aston Villa (7, 9), only one relegation place will be had. Olympiakos (15, 14) are 7th and relatively safe ahead of Santos FC (12, 14). SC Braga (10, 14) sit 9th, and are in danger of falling to the lowest tier just two seasons after life at the top.

    SERIE C

Rubin Kazan (38 Pts, 15 GP) cannot be caught, and will be promoted at the end of the season. Cagliari (26, 15) once had a stranglehold on 3rd, but a recent slump have left the door open for VfB Stuttgart (23, 14) and Stade Rennes (21, 15).
