    Semifinals Preview

The two semifinals matches have recently been finalized with the quarterfinals coming to a close. However, with Stade Rennais and QPR quickly getting their match complete, that means just one Semifinals preview this time around. Stade Rennais downed QPR 3-2 in a battle of two promotion-ready Serie B squads, as M. Erdinc carried Rennais with his 2-goal performance. I was totally going to predict all of that happening, so I guess you all will just have to trust me on that one ;). As for the other semifinal between Serie A strongholds Real Sociedad and West Ham, well...

    [IMG] REAL SOCIEDAD

    WEST HAM [IMG]

    RedAL925 ~ Real Sociedad
    T-6th in Serie A, 6-2-9
Cup Results (Group): W 3-2 vs. Ein. Frankfurt, W 5-0 vs. VfL Wolfsburg, W 6-1 vs. Aston Villa
    Cup Results (Knockout): W 2-0 vs. Sunderland, W 2-1 vs. Hannover 96

    CxMacx10 ~ West Ham
    1st in Serie A, 9-3-2
Cup Results (Group): W 4-0 vs. Genoa, W 4-1 vs. Lokomotiv Moscow, W 4-1 vs. Bordeaux
Cup Results (Knockout): W 5-0 vs. Celtic, W 1-0 vs. Marseille

With two Serie A sides facing off, the winner will represent the top-level league against Serie B's Stade Rennais in the Coppa Tradizione Final. Serie Commander RedAL925 has been a Serie A regular since Season 1, always sporting strong teams. However, inconsistency has long played a part in determining the final place of his teams. RedAL hasn't had much success in the Coppa Tradizione, as this match will mark his first Coppa Tradizione semifinal appearance. The semis sure aren't anything new for CxMacx10 though. This match marks the 5th semifinal appearance for Mac, meaning he has reached the semifinals in every Coppa Tradizione. However, getting out of the semifinals has been tough- Mac is just 1-3 in the previous 4 semifinal matches, and lost the one Final he did reach. But for this match, both managers will be using teams just taken over at the start of Season 7 to try and change their fortunes. Real Sociedad tore apart the Coppa group stage, scoring the most goals per game with 14 goals over 3 games. Real Sociedad then impressed with a pair of wins in the knockout stage over two Serie A teams in Sunderland and Hannover 96. That's not to say defense has been lagging behind though, as 4 goals allowed in 5 cup matches isn't too bad. Gonzalo Castro has been the key piece in the Spanish side's cup run, as Castro has scored 6 times, assisted twice, and currently leads the Golden Ball award race. While Castro has played well in the Coppa, league play has seen Vela, Griezmann, and Xabi Prieto all perform strong for Real Sociedad. Real Sociedad will need their key players to all play up to their ability level in order to get the club into the Coppa Final. But goals sure won't be easy against West Ham. The Hammers have allowed a Serie A-low 1.43 goals allowed per game, as GK J. Jaaskelainen leads both Serie A and the Coppa Tradizione in clean sheets. When you also consider that West Ham has Serie A's second-highest goals scored per game (2.50), you can begin to understand why West Ham sits in 1st place in league play and remains alive in the Coppa. West Ham simply hasn't slumped at all the entire season and has continued to dominate the field no matter the opponent. It is worth noting that West Ham did just barely slip past Marseille in the quarterfinals though.

    Difference Maker: [IMG]
LB Jose Angel, Real Sociedad. Jose Angel has been one of the top defenders in all of Serie play this season, as the defender has earned 4 man of the match awards over all competitions. Jose Angel has the ability to spark a quick attack, but he will also be needed to defend West Ham's right side. If the defender can put together another MOTM-worthy performance, Real Sociedad might just find themselves advancing to the Coppa Tradizione Final.

Prediction: Real Sociedad won a couple of recent matches and may now be out of its midseason swoon, but West Ham appears destined for a more memorable run.
    West Ham 1-0
