#19 Michigan survives opener versus Northern Illinois 43-37. A huge comeback was needed as the Wolverines found themselves down 27-7 at one point before making blanking the Huskies in the final frame 21-0. D. Lewis had a monster game as he threw for 415 yards and 4 touchdowns.

The Wolverines head into the bye before taking on #2 Auburn.

    Big First Win of 2017
Georgia is crushed 24-7 at the hands of Florida State

Fresh Tail Back Mike Fogle started off his career with 80 yards and this cutback TD

Tallahassee, FL-- Coach DrunkenSoldier doing everything that he could at Notre Dame, winning 2 National Titles and participating in another against the Noles. This time and going forward Coach Jangles heads up, somewhat of a rebuilding project in the tough SEC. It didn't take long for FSU to flex its power, Chris Roberts hit an out route as the Georgia DB was "lost" 58 yards later the Noles are up 7-0. After exchaning some punts Florida State put another 3 points on the board pushing the lead 10-0. Georgia would fight back and get back within 3 in the second quarter at a 10-7 deficit but that is all the FSU defense would give up.

Georgia's QBs didn't have a good day and a few WR drops hurt as well as they threw 5 for 17 on the day for 75 yards and a pick. Fresh HB Mike Fogle looked every bit of the #1 back from the recent recruiting class as he carried the rock 17 times for 80 yards and scoring once.

    =======================================

    First Quarter
6:30 TD FSU Leon Williams WR #84 58 yard TD from Charles Roberts QB #2 (Jack Davis P #3 kick)

Gg knight, not really sure what I'm doing with this offense yet got a speedy senior qb and a pocket passer with good throw power and accuracy. Nothing like getting thrown to the wolves week 1 not even a chance to get a feel for my new team

Pitt loses to USC 24-21 in double OT
In his first game after a controversial off season, Pitt coach smace lose a game he had chances to steal in the home opener.
Entering the game with a new offense and a new team, coach smace had a gameplan but struggled to put together his attack for long stretches. He knew what he wanted to do in a general sense but didnt know who could do it, and where it was in his new spread playbook he learned while visiting the Utah ST coaching staff.
    First drive resulted in this.
the teams traded picks as the rain would play a factor all day. At least 4 specific times Pitt had its primary receiver fall down resulting in 2 picks and 2 sacks.
USC Coach Mike liked his outside matchups and tested it deep. The DP was there but lacked the skill to complete the play. one of at least 4 dropped INTs.
USC would go up 21-7 as Pitt QB jacob Woods threw a pair of picks in the rain. Star impact HB Silva was hurt on his very first carry, an 8 yd run for the entire first half. In the second half Silva made some plays including this play to make it a ballgame.
After a missed Pick 6 by Pitt, they were able to get an INT to setup the tie late in the fourth,
In a wild final seconds Pitt forces a punt but after a receiver falls in the rain results in a sack USC gets the ball back. The coaches play cat and mouse with timeouts before a long USC FG is missed and the return only gets back to midfield.
USC plays d first in OT and stops Pitt as a TE falls down yet again on a third and 6 play which pushed FG to far for the Kicker. But Pitt was able to get pressure and get a few hands on the ball before USC settles for a long FG which came up short.
In Ot #2 Pitt holds USC to a FG and after a first down run, Coach smace calls a run formation, but decides to test the good USC secondary for the win. Smace calls a combo route to the right. If its zone throw to the endzone, if its man look for the back side cross, Then look for the safety checks /run. On the snap smace sees its man so no go to the endzone. he should have came back to the back side cross vs man but he decides to challenge the FS who is actually covering a TE who is smaces 3-4 receiver in some sets do to y slot formations or lack of depth. Long story short no separation, weak throw, Pick off, game over as the back side wr is running open in the middle of the field.
    Good game Mike.
Coach smace has to do better then that to compete this year. with the talent level, there must be good execution.

Pitt loses 27-14 to fall to 0-2
As the coach went over the game film he had these observations on this team and this young season.
    1) Penalties - Pitt had 7. Two called back big plays, two extended Wake Forest scoring drives, and the other three either created big holes at key moments or gave Wake an easier situation to convert.
    2) Injuries - This team is butter soft. At least 6-8 players went down during the course of the game. Every other play coach smace was looking at injury reports.
    3) QB play - Qb Woods missed 3 big / TD passes that have to be thrown where the receiver can make a play in field of play. He makes good throws in tight windows a decent amount of time. The problem is missing wide open guys. At this level he has to get it to the receiver.
    4) Defense - Smace has always played the scheme that put his 11 best players on the field. The 3-3-5 was ran because he lacked defensive tackles and speed but had smart safeties. the 4-2-5 was ran because he had great DT and fast aggressive safeties. With this team, it looked like the 4-3 put the best 11 on the field, But its not flexible enough against different packages for this talent group. The fact that he has maybe the best defender / LBer he has ever coached, he could have had success with a more diverse and complex defense.
Amber zone offense - Pitt crossed into Wake territory about 7 times but came away with only 14 points. As the field gets compressed the offense bogs down. Smace will have to find a plus side of the field play maker.
To solve these problems is why coach smace is here. Its what coaching is all about. recognize weakness develop strategies to minimize weakness and maximize strengths, and convert those methods into wins and titles. Talk is cheap, results is what increase the bank roll.

Georgia hits a Hail Mary to Give Coach Danglez II His First WIn
    [IMG]
Jeremy Jackson comes off the bench to hit hit Curtis Purcell for an 80 yd TD with 11 seconds left to give The Bulldogs the win. Needless to say Jackson will be given the starters job as NIck Wilson and the mobile QB thing arent really workin out.

    Wolverines Grind Out 38-22 Victory

" A win like this really shows everyone that we were willing to learn from our mistakes last week. Its tough without Pete Hill out there but I think Tyrone Wheatley played well given his position. His 111 yards on the ground and his long TD reception went a long way in this. Lewis did well but I'm still a little disappointed with his 1/7 performance last week. Glad to pick up this win and its going to be very interesting next week when we take on preseason #1 Penn State. They have a lot of talent out there and we want to get some revenge from last season's Big Ten title game loss, with coach Smace there or not."

    Trojans escape Huskies 42-24

Midway through the second quarter and Coach Dredd was ready to pull a Coach Hasty on his team. Down 24-7, preseason All America Anthony "Mr. Picks" Thomas just went down to a broken foot the probably ended his Trojan career. Backup Reggie Perry promptly throws and interception in the endzone. Suddenly Coach Dredd was thinking of real estate in East Lansing, MI and wondereing how hot the women are in Baton Rouge, LA. Then in walks Redshirt Freshman QB Stringer Bell, and maybe just maybe, a star was born. Behind 132 yards rushing 161 passing and 3 total TDs USC blitzed Washington 35-0 to close the game. Though his ratings are lower Bell hit the open receivers Thomas so often overthrows. When asked if Bell would start the next game Coach Dredd was non committal worried about inexperience setting in, but with a running game without a playmaker, and the Heisman candidate out for the season, the future could well be now.

    Seminoles Improve to 3-0
#15 USC fails to defend their home turf against Florida State
    [IMG]
This run by John Hodge, 62 yarder, separated the Noles from the Trojans 21-10
    ============================

Los Angeles, CA-- No one knew what to expect from these two teams, Coach Knight didn't know how his Seminoles would respond going out west to the beaches and playing the Trojans. I don't know what Coach mikedredd expected either, but the first half was very, very tightly contested on the defensive side. USC would get a huge hit on Charles Roberts, fumbled and Jack would pick it up and rumble to give the Trojans a 7-0 lead. They would add another 3 before half and take a 10-0 lead into the second half.

The second half belong to the Noles, freshman Mike Fogle wore down the USC defense but left with an injury. Left the ground game to QB Charles Roberts and John Hodge. Roberts would take a read option 30 yards to take the 0 off the board and cut the lead to 10-7. John Hodge would finish another drive giving the Noles a 14-10 advantage. Just before the 3rd quarter would end, Hodge would take a give right up the middle all he needed to do was break one tackle, 62 yards later the Noles are putting up 21 unanswered points. FSU would seal it off a PA pass from Roberts to Williams from 23 yards out and USC would add a late TD to finish it at 28-17.

The Battle for Ohio.. Buckeyes hold off Ohio 28-14
    [IMG][IMG]
With all the success the Bobcats have had the past few years, including a trip to the

Sugar Bowl last season. This can no longer be considered a cake walk for the Buckeyes

and it showed. As Ohio played tough, even jumping out to an early 14-7 lead, but still

doesnt have the speed and play makers as the Buckeyes. Mcfadden ran for 140 yards

and 2 scores, plus T. Wilson threw for 218 yards as The Buckeyes would pull out the

    28-14 victroy.

"This was a great win! Tyrone Wheatley! Tyrone Wheatley! What can I say? Thats a coming out party -- 200 plus yards and 3 touchdowns. Man, this kid is going to be special. I think our team played a great game, a very great game. We came out and defended our turf -- thats the games you have to win. You have to beat the big time opponents on your home turf. Now we can't get bigheaded about this, we still have a lot to do. Good win by us, now we gotta focus on another SEC opponent in Georgia."

benbuckeye -- If smace767 was still in Happy Valley, no way we beat them. The AI doesn't know how to use them. I kind of got helped out by knocking our their starting HB but they still owned me in everything. Don't sleep because they lost to two users -- their still dangerous.

    Vtech falls to tO$U 17-7

In the pre-season most sane Hokie fans had the team finishing 8-4 with a mid level bowl appearance this season. One of the four losses was to the Buckeyes what most people didn't figure on was that the Hokies would shit the bed against the highly talented Big Ten squad. But that is what they did, time and again Vtech dropped passes, missed tackles, and came up short in a game that they surprisingly competed in. Good game ben.

TROJANS LAYETH DOWN THE SMACK 49-20
    [IMG]
With backup turned starting QB Reggie Perry firing bullets all game the Trojans dominated the Colorado Buffaloes by a score of 49 - 20. Perry's day was marred as he still made a few bad decisions which resulted in a couple of interceptions. The CPU proved again it understands nothing about strategy by only rushing 13 times with starting HB Alvarez despite a 10 yards per carry average. This was the first game Freshman QB Stringer Bell did not see action since the starter went down. Though he has shown a superstar spark, Coach Dredd seems to prefer the more accurate Perry. There are also rumors Bell doesnt know the playbook as well as would be expected of a player in his second year in the system. When asked about Bell's DNP Dredd replied, "I play the guys I feel give us the best chance to win, period...and right now Reggie is QB1." Could this be the start of a quarterback controversy? Especially since both players are underclassmen, the offseason will be telling if one of the QB's transfers after losing the competition for the starting job. Stay tuned....

Virginia Tech Wins a Wild One Against Visiting Pitt
In a game that had a defensive battle, a shootout, a grind it out run game, and a last second dramatic play call it would be acceptable for a coach to be speechless. But Coach Easy was anything but speechless after his team's stunning victory against a well coached Pitt Panther team. "We figured Coach smace767 would have his boys ready to play, we didn't figure they would be as successful running the ball as they were" said Easy. The first drive saw the Panthers take the ball all the way down to the Hokie 4 yard line before they were backed up via a tackle for a loss, a penalty, a sack, and another sack to the Hokie 44 yard line where they punted. "That goalline stand was the difference in the game, if they score there I am not sure our boys recover to mentally, it has been a rough couple of weeks" coach Easy said. From there the teams traded touchdowns to make the game 14 all at the half. The second half also saw four touchdowns scored but it was the extra point try on the fourth score that made the difference in this one. With the score 28-27 coach Easy made the call to go for two. "We didn't think we should play for a tie there, we felt confident we could punch it in for 2 from that distance so we made the call" the coach explained. Had that attempt failed it is safe to say the Hokies would be searching for a new head coach at the end of the season, but this game is a game of inches and today in Blacksburg there were 107 more inches in favor of the Hokies.

"This was a big win for us, to come back after faling behind early shows alot of character in this team. We definately struggled a little bit offensively, and need to get that fixed, but we have the best player in the country on our side, now we just gotta find him some help.
