Giants Run Game Seizes ControlThe Giants Trio Rushing Attack Lifts Big Blue Passed Dallas 35 - 38 New York, NY - The Giants were coming off a heart breaking loss to New Orleans last week, as well the Cowboys suffered a defeat to defending NFC Champs Carolina. The NFC East rivals would meet in the Big Apple for an early season clash to put one team at 1-1 and the other looking for answers. The New York crowd saw another intense battle that came down to the wire, and went home happy as their New York FOOTBALL Giants captured a very critical early season victory. New York's defense struggled early to keep the Dallas offense at bay, but the Cowboys kept the GMen defense on the field. With a 21-7 lead with 4:30 minutes left in the 2nd, Dallas seemed convinced they'd be going to the half with the momentum and a sizeable lead. However, HB Corey Mays and the Giants offense had else in mind as Mays punched in 2 runs to knot the game at 21 with 20 seconds remaining. Dallas wanted that HT lead bad. They got it. After finding Witten on a seam route straight up the middle, Dallas was deep in NY territory, and found paydirt on a 35 yard out route to WR Cobb. The Giants received the ball at the start of the 3rd and made work of the clock. Burning up just under 4 minutes, only to tack on 3 in a very quiet 3rd quarter. The 4th however saw the fireworks. Dallas went up 35-24 on a short 8 yard pass to Witten with 6:20 remaining. The Giants offense, led by QB Anthony Anderson and HB Corey Mays worked the field quickly and Anderson hooked up with Bryan Anthony on a 27 yard pass with 5 minutes left. Dallas got the ball back and began working the clock and the field. On a 3rd and about 6 on Dallas' end of the field, S Kenny Phillips off his brand new contract read a curl route to Witten and picked off the Mallett pass, setting up the Giants with great field position, 2 minutes to spare, and 3 timeouts in their pocket. Corey Mays, Lache Williams, and Mack Daddy did the rest. Capped off by a 4 yard run by Mays, his 4th TD on the day, the Giants took a 38-35 lead (2pt good) with 36 seconds left. The Defense did their job at holding Dallas and securing the monumental victory for the Giants. HB Corey Mays and Co. did what the Giants wanted to do and controlled the ball in the second half, proving this Giants team wants to run the football. Giants Stats QB A. Anderson: 10 of 18 for 210 YDs and 1 TDHB C. Mays: 17 Atts for 137 YDs and 4 TDsHB L. Williams: 6 Atts for 39 YDsHB M. Johnson: 3 Atts for 33 YDsWR B. Anthony: 2 RECs 47 YDs and 1 TDCB P. The Dirty Birds Do It AgainFalcons Shut Down The Saints 20-3 After a great defensive performance in week 1 against the Buccaneers, the Falcons turned around and did it again against the New Orleans Saints. It was all defense early in the game though for both sides as it was just tough to move the ball. The scoring drives for both teams(FGs for both teams) came off of fumbles returned into FG position. Outside of that, there just wasn't much offense to found until late in the 1st half. Falcons QB Cejay Kennedy would put together a great 2 minute offense, and with little time remaining, he would hit WR Mario Owens on an out route. Owens would turn up-field and take it the rest of the way for a 23 yard TD pass with 2 seconds left in the half putting the Falcons up 10-3 at halftime. The 2nd half was all Falcons though. Atlanta's defensive line was too much for New Orleans as Colt McCoy was under constant pressure and the Falcons' offense started to move the ball consistently. This allowed the Falcons to pull away and push the lead out to 17 points and a 20-3 victory.
Stifling Defense, Ill Timed Errors Cost SD the Ball Game
What a damn good game this was! The Chargers were able to get their third interception of the day with under a minute to go with 3 timeouts around midfield, but the very next play Boone would try to throw to the sideline and rookie corner Sammy Morris would make a play and return the interception for the GW TD.
