Quarterfinals Preview Coppa Tradizione preview!!! Of the 3 matches currently set, only 3 of 6 teams are from Serie A. Is this the year of the underdog in the Coppa Tradizione, or will the big boys put the minnows back in their place this round? Broncos218 (T-2nd in Serie A, 7-2-4; Cup Results: W 4-0 vs. Stoke City, D 2-2 vs. Rubin Kazan, W 5-1 vs. Genoa, D 0-0 vs. Galatasaray, W 1-0 vs. Sporting CP) Skill_Tricks (2nd in Serie C, 9-2-0; Cup Results: D 0-0 vs. VfB Stuttgart, W 3-1 vs. LOSC Lille, L 2-3 vs. VfL Wolfsburg, W 2-1 vs. Werder Bremen) First up we have an interesting match between a Serie A vet and a Serie C hot-shot newcomer. With the offensive-laden lineup that characterizes Anzhi Makhachkala, Bronc has been able to average 2 goals per game in Serie A. And with Willian transferring into the squad, the Russian club's attack only looks tougher. But then there's defense. While traditionally a defensive coach, Bronc has been unable to stop shots from flying into the net, allowing 3+ goals in 4 of Anzhi's last 6 Serie A matches. The loss of Christopher Samba put the backline in a state of flux, and the club's defenders aren't about to get an easy task. Enter Inter Porto Alegre, headlined by Leandro Damiao, Forlan, and D'Alessandro up front. But much like Anzhi, Inter isn't too skilled in the back either. It will likely be up the club's top defender, Juan, to shut down the likes of Samuel Eto'o and Lacina Traore. But while Inter's defense looks weak on paper, Inter has allowed an astonishing 1 goal in 11 Serie C matches. The fate of this match could very much come down to breakdowns in the back. Prediction: Upset Alert! I. Porto Alegre 3-2 Zikry (T-2nd in Serie A, 6-5-3; Cup Results: W 3-1 vs. Hannover 96, W 3-0 vs. Hamburger SV, W 4-0 vs. Athletic Bilbao, W 1-0 vs. Montpellier) BigSmooth33 (T-5th Serie B, 5-2-5; Cup Results: L 1-3 vs. QPR, W 3-1 vs. Palermo, W 2-0 vs. Wigan Athletic, W 3-0 (F) vs. West Ham, W 2-1 vs. Santos) Surprise, surprise- Zikry's still alive in the Coppa! A new club in Udinese hasn't slowed down the "Coppa King" at all- it may have made him even stronger! The Italian team sits second in the Serie A table and is loaded with talent all over the pitch. Di Natale is the headliner that leads the offensive force and is the player opponents focus in on, but don't sleep on the striker lined up next to him- 6'5'' Swede Mathias Ranegie. Sure he's no Ibrahimovic, but you can't argue with Ranegie's 14 goals across all competitions this season (the same as Di Natale!). Brkic has been steady in net this season behind quite possibly the most talented defensive line in all of the Serie leagues, making Udinese a club set for a deep cup run. In their way to the Semifinals is Celtic. Celtic is carrying the pride of an underdog- wrote off from their qualification group before play even began and then matched up with a former Coppa Tradizione champion in snake3249 in the Round of 16. Now matched up with Udinese, Celtic's run could either take a historic and memorable turn toward the Semis, or back home like the fate of many other Zikry'd victims. Celtic further fits the underdog label considering the club is listed a half-star below the league's 4-star cap. An upset here wouldn't be the Scottish club's first, but I wouldn't bet on it being the club's second either. Prediction: Udinese 3-0 A_Touch_Of_Class (1st in Serie C, 11-0-1; Cup Results: W 3-0 vs. Montpellier, W 1-0 vs. Atl. Mineiro, W 1-0 vs. Marseille, W 1-1 (5-4 PEN) vs. Hannover 96) BESHIKTAS (5th in Serie A, 5-6-2; Cup Results: W 3-1 vs. Celtic, D 3-3 vs. West Ham, W 2-0 vs. Wigan Athletic, W 2-0 vs. Palermo, W 3-1 vs. Cagliari) At the bottom of the bracket we have another Serie A vs. C matchup. The boisterous Saint-Etienne manager has torn apart Serie C this season, winning all but 1 match to date. Yet reaching the Quarterfinals came down to the wire, as the French club advanced via penalties over Hannover 96 in the Round of 16. The victory over a Serie A side certainly proved Saint-Etienne belongs with the big boys, but they have yet to face a side like QPR in a TFS-sanctioned competition. Saint-Etienne's offensive prowess is obvious, as the club averages a Serie-high 2.92 goals per game. Aubameyang leads the attack up front and has played well in both league and cup thus far. However, QPR's defense is nothing to sneeze at either. QPR is second in goals allowed per game in the top-flight, allowing exactly 1 goal per game. If QPR is able to stifle Saint-Etienne and frustrate the club early on, it may only be a matter of time until someone from QPR's well-balanced offense finds the back of the net and puts the team on top for good. Loic Remy is the club's best striker, but between Hoilett, Johnson, Wright-Phillips, and many others, QPR isn't a club that lives and dies by one man. Prediction: QPR 2-1 The 4th quarterfinal match will have its preview posted once the teams are set.
