Aston Villa put in a great show to very nearly cause an upset over season 6 Serie C champions Rubin. Somehow the russians went in at 0-0 at the half, with Kasaev and Eremenko missing absolute sitters and could have easily been 3-0 up at half time.

But Bent put Villa ahead just after half time against the run of play and Villa had several chances to secure the win as Rubin pushed men forward high up the pitch. However a slack pass allowed Eduardo to cross in for the unmarked Kasaev to head in and grab a point.

wp MiaFLSurf tough game as i would expect in Serie B

After a dissappointing drawn first game of the Serie B Season, Rubin came back with a much improved display to dispose of Stuttgart 5-2 at home. Bocchetti headed home from a corner, only for Cacau to head in a good Molinaro cross to level a minute later.

Eduardo then made it 2-1 for Rubin, before Rondon got his first of the season, reacting first after his header was saved to put Rubin 3-1 up at the break. Ibisevic got the Germans back in the game at 3-2 just after the break before a breakaway saw Eremenko finish well to restore the 2 goal lead.

Eduardo then raced clear to put Rubin 5-2 ahead and allow them to stroll through the last 20 minutes unscathed.

Stuttgart - Die Roten earned its first victory of the year against visiting Dutch side PSV Eindhoven and redwings8831 in a match that would be remembered as much for its physicality as it was for the quick first strike that got the home side on the board. Stuttgart was lethal in its passing just minutes into the game, finding tiny pockets of space in which to operate, and capitalizing when William Kvist drew two defenders and offloaded to Tamas Hajnal, whose weak foot blast was too much for Przemyslaw Tyton to handle.

PSV tried repeatedly to draw equal, launching cross after cross into the Stuttgart box, but the German defense was able to either out-leap their Dutch opponents, or give enough of a jostle that few of those successful tries ultimately ended on target. Stuttgart twisted the dagger by scoring seconds before the half when pacey winger Ibrahima Traore floated a pinpoint-accurate cross onto the head of Cacau for the first of what would ultimately be a brace for the Brazilian-born striker. Cacau struck again shortly after the half when Martin Harnik was hauled down on the right side of the pitch, about 20 yards from the end line, giving a perfect position for a crossed free kick. At 52 minutes gone, the home side were up 3-0 and looking to cruise.

But the Dutch had different ideas. The tempo and physicality of the match ticked up decidedly, as PSV mixed its attacks with long shots, crosses and attempted through balls to try and penetrate the German defense. At 69 minutes, they were ultimately successful when Dries Mertens sent a cross right along the length of the end line onto the waiting head of Ola Toivonen. But that was all the visitors were able to muster. Despite the scoreline showing 23 shots and 12 on target for them, many of those were deflected by the German backline, and the game wasn't so one-sided as the numbers might suggest. It was, beginning to end, a tense affair. Even up 3 goals, Stuttgart knew that PSV and redwings8831 could be back in the match in a matter of seconds.

Eintracht Frankfurt start their season with a good win against Athletic Minero. Guilherme slotted an early goal for the visitors as he got a huge rebound after Leandro made an impressive move to beat the German defenders. It did not look good for the home side, after not getting promotion in the final game last season. But Erwin Hoffer tied the game in the 37th minute when he took the ball from a mess in front of the keeper and coolly finished it. Then just before the half ended, he made a great individual effort from 30 yards out to go right by the Spanish defense and power it home right past the opposing keeper. The last 5 minutes were very nervous for the home side as Minero made some great efforts to tie the game but the defense held out to win the game. Great game thebouncer24

What a choke job by Aston Villa! Up 2-0 and well in hand, they PISSEd AWAY the game letting 2 goals in the final 6 minutes of the match. HSV has to be given credit, they played terrific tactical football in the end to get the draw. AV has to be severely upset about this, 3 points so close, yet so far. D. Bent had ANOTHER goal (3 games in a row), and continues to do well on counter attacks.

A massive win for Rubin in a very tough match up against PSV. The game was played at a veracious pace, with PSV taking the lead when the ball rebounded to Strootman at the edge of the box and he lashed home.

Rubin levelled almost immediately when Rondon made no mistake in the box after Eremenko found him unmarked. Both sides had chances to wint he game, indeed PSV came very close right on half time when a shot thundered against the bar only for it to bounce out to safety.

PSV had plenty of shots, but Rubin were happy with this, for the 26 shots on goal maybe 18 were from 25+ yards and would be special to beat Rhyzikov who as always was fantastic in goal for Rubin.

The winning goal came when Kasaev's cross was nodded home by Rondon to send the travelling Rubin fans home delighted and to make it 7 points out of 9 in a solid start to Serie B.

wp redwings8831 you played a great game much improved from when i last played u in Serie C

Can you please move this post to this thread? Sorry I didn't get a chance to create it last night. It'll help alleviate confusion if we need to track down stats in the future.

    Thanks!
