For the first time in a long time, we begin a new season with an even split of newcomers and veterans of TFS, meaning this season will be truly one of unpredictability. Serie C will kick off Season 8 with five new members, three returning from Season 7 and two wayward sons who have returned to the fold after wandering lost in the wilderness.

The ever-present Athletic Bilbao will be taken over by a new manager who hopes to see better returns; Saint-Etienne graces our league for the first time; Genoa and Palermo will once again face off for Italian supremacy; and one team has yet to be chosen. How will it all shake out? Here's some data on which to ponder:

[IMG] SC Braga - pitt4life21 - One of five newcomers to TFS, pitt4life21 takes over the dangerous Portuguese side SC Braga,, which makes its return to the league for the first time since Season 4. Braga boasts a vicious three-headed offensive attack of Lima, Alan and Helder Barbosa. Lima is the quintessential striker - finishing, long shooting, power, speed, agility. Alan provides speed on the left and Barbosa pinpoint crossing from the right. Add that to a solid midfield, and Braga is a potent offensive threat. The question for this team will be whether the all-Brazilian back line can hold opponents at bay, or whether each game will be a goal-for-goal slugfest.

[IMG]Galatasaray SK - Go Devils - a longtime veteran of TFS who has seen his fortunes rise and fall. Galtasaray is a team that struggles to create goals, but makes other teams struggle just as hard. While the cagey Turks may have only found the back of the net 8 times last season, they allowed just 20 goals in 16 games, and boasted five clean sheets. Galatasaray is guaranteed to finish at least mid-table; if they can find a scoring touch, or even simply string together a handful of 1-0 or 2-1 victories at just the right time, it may be enough to propel the team back to promotion territory.

[IMG]Wigan Athletic - ezio - One of two members who is returning to TFS after a hiatus abroad. It's been some seasons since ezio graced us with his presence. What type of player he is is intriguingly a mystery. We do know, though, that it will require balance - much like his chosen team. Wigan isn't flashy, but they are solid. With one of the best underrated keepers in the game in Ali Al-Habsi, this team lives and dies between the posts. Arouna Kone is the only true striking threat, but his killer speed and acceleration aren't to be dismissed. Wigan and Galatasaray are the early favorites to compete for the most shutouts.

[IMG]AS Saint-Etienne - A_Touch_Of_Class - Another newcomer to TFS and one who hasn't been shy in giving his opinion - about how good he is. In a series of friendlies against veteran TFS members, he has shown he has some chops and is definitely a force to be reckoned with on the pitch. Whether the lobby game scheme interferes with his always-on-the-counterattack approach remains to be seen. What is in no doubt, however, is the lethality of his team. Saint-Etienne is built on crazy speed up top and on the wings, good vision in the middle, stout interceptions in front of the back four. IF all goes according to plan, the relative weakness of the back four won't matter, because the front three will always be racing forward with the ball.

[IMG]I. Porto Alegre - Skill_Tricks - The newest member of TFS takes charge of a team that has proven to be a mirage for others before. As with so many other Brazilian squads, Porto Alegre is all about offense, and defense be damned. Lead by Uruguayan superstar Diego Forlan, Porto comes at you with three forwards who interchange as strikers, wingers and attacking midfielders. The team's strength deteriorates rapidly the further back you go, but in the right hands, this could be a case of a manager saying, "Go ahead and score three goals. We'll just score four."

[IMG] AZ Alkmaar - FunkDockta27 - Another newcomer to TFS takes over a team beloved by many TFS Managers because of the presence of Jozy Altidore, who tears up the Eredivisie and then lollygags when his country calls. But in this squad, Altidore is Superman with shot power and strength to blow opponents away. Combine that with the deft control of Maarten Martens on the left and the pacey and agile Roy Beerens on the right, and AZ is, in a word, solid. In the right hands, this is a squad capable of promotion. Whether FunkDockta has those hands remains to be seen.

[IMG] Athletic Club de Bilbao - COLDPredator - Athletic Club has the distinction of having been represented in every single TFS Season to date. Unfortunately, in seven seasons, it has had exactly one winning campaign (in Season 1). Athletic Bilbao is one of the most heavily trafficked clubs in the league, now being led by its fifth manager. Under its last leadership, a series of woeful years saw the club fall into disrepute, with an ignominious three-season run of two-win seasons. The team has talent, with the much-sought Fernando Llorente at the front (for now) and Iker Muniain and Susaeta anchoring the flanks. The team has wins in it. But does the manager?

[IMG]Genoa CFC - Geneseo98 - Geneseo is always thisclose to promotion, no matter what team he has under his tutelage. His first season in the league, he finished 5th with Galatasaray, then came 4th and promotion to Serie B, then relegation, then came the tightest season in Serie C to date, which saw him in 7th with Everton, but only 5 points from 2nd and promotion once again. Last season, he was once again one spot shy of promotion with Genoa. He has found a touch with this squad, pouring in 32 goals, led by Marco Boriello and Ciro Immobile. Will Season 8 see his return to the land of Milk and Honey? Will one of the newcomers dash his dreams yet again?

[IMG]Palermo - OhDaesu19 - Palermo is a team that has been under the same steady hand for going into its 7th straight season. A manager since TFS' inception, OhDaesu may be the most traveled skipper in the league, having spent two seasons in Serie A, three in Serie B and entering his third in Serie C. If there's anyone who knows how the game is supposed to be played, look no further. Unfortunately, success hasn't gone hand-in-hand with longevity. But be not fooled, ye Serie C managers! This manager with this team knows a thing or two. Fabrizio Miccoli and Josip Ilicic have combined to look many a keeper look foolish, and Igor Budan's strength and jumping ability make him the ideal target for balls crossed in from Franco Brienza or over the top from Massimo Donati. Usually one of the more consistent defensive squads, Palermo is one good scoring season away from finding the missing piece to its puzzle.

[IMG] TBD - Cimmy24 - Foundation member Cimmy returns after being gone too long from the friendly confines of TFS. Cimmy is something of a question mark in that he hasn't selected a team yet, but the man knows how the game is played. In two full and two partial seasons, he racked up an impressive record of 32 wins, 10 draws, 16 losses. Give him Drogheda United and he's going to do something with them. Just don't expect that to happen. Cimmy has to be the odds-on favorite for promotion - in the preseason. We'll see if the climb back to the top is that simple.
