    Man of the Match:

    G. Agbonlahor (Villa)

What a match! Back and forth. Bent scores on a breakaway early, Pato answers with a terrific finish poking past a diving Given. Then, late in the second half, Villa commit a foul right outside the box. Corinthians loads the box with 9 players and cross it in, however Villa defends the header and clears it out to a sprinting Agbonlahor. He makes one defender miss and is off to the races placing a rocket in the top corner right before the clock expires!

This match was very tactical and both teams were waiting for the right moments to open up. In the 13th minute Atl. Mineiro had a bit of a defensive collapse and fell victim to a nice lob over the top and headed in by E. Vargas. Very quickly after Ronaldinho would line up a corner kick only to find Silva's head and he would put one in the corner of the net. The rest of the half saw some key plays on defense as both teams would see some good opportunities only to see them be denied by some great defensive play. 2nd half of the match came and again defense was the key until the 69th minute when Donizete would get a lucky hop into his foot and boot one in to score. It came on a cross that was too high and the header ended up being a pass right to Donizete's feet as he would punch in the score. Gremio would become more aggressive and trying to attack a lot more after this fearing defeat in the first match of the coined group of life. Gremio would scramble around for a while until putting up a pass that the defense fell asleep on because at first it looked like a shot that was wide until out of no where Kleber would put in a lovely header to tie the game at 2 a piece. Gremio would try it's hardest and get a few opportunities to win the game in the end but the defense held strong and left the game with a point. In what may have been a shock to Gremio as they were sure to have walked through this group they are still looking at a point but when the media had them at an easy 3 points they will have to take the 1 point and move on, as will Atl. Minerio.

Despite controlling the pace of play, Atalanta found themselves very fortunate to squeak out a 1-0 result in their first Coppa match in club history. The highly respected A_Touch_Of_Class was firing at GK Consigli but was unable to find the equalizer.
Atalanta won a corner midway through the first half that set up the only goal of the match. Moralez took the corner and found the head of CB Lucchini who somehow squeaked the ball off the inside of the goalpost, right past a Saint-Etienne defender marking the same post. The goal was the first scored by Atalanta in four matches this season (three Serie C contests) and allowed Atalanta to focus on protecting their net.
Saint-Etienne had several opportunities, including a corner that saw Zouma come free and get a head on the ball six yards out, but he hit the wrong side of the post and Atalanta was able to clear the ball. As time continued, Saint-Etienne started firing from outside the box, praying to find the corner of the net or a rebound. It never came, and Atalanta held on for the 1-0 win.

Stuttgart played an ugly game of all possession and no firepower. The first half had the visiting Germans passing the ball around the Portuguese box with skill and flare, but very little to show for it. A single short cross-header combination put Stuttgart in front, and Sven Ulreich took care of the rest, stopping shots and swallowing up rebounds to keep Sporting Lisbon off the board. WingedHelmet deserved a draw, but Ulreich saw things differently. Again, well played, sir.

The game vs Stoke City started a lot different than the recent games they have played, they had an offense and a lot of it. Jo would open this up in the 5 minute mark as he would punch in a shot. Diego Tardelli must have heard the words coach said about him as he came out to play today with 2 goals. The new formation really opened him up and let him use his strong foot instead of his weak foot. We may have something with this formation with Tardelli in the lineup. The scoring stopped after this play from Rever
The goal was probably the best in Atl. Mineiro TFS history. After this they would set up a defensive approach and a rather lazy attempt at it giving up a goal late.

In their first group match of the yearly Coppa Tradizione, Athletic Bilbao were unable to capitalize on a solid performance against Marseille. Bilbao controlled play early and often and dominated in shots on target 8 to 2, but their early Serie C struggle continued into cup play towards a 0-0 draw. " Go Devils managed a hell of a game and his defenders did a superb job of keeping us off of the scoresheet. We got some shots on net, but right at the keeper. They gave us no better windows,'' said manager kaptainkracker1 after the draw. Both teams were eager to get an early start in the always tough group stages.

Hard fought game. Mulumbu got WBA on the board early but Martin struck back almost immediately. Toward the end of the first half the Lille wall managed to just get a head to a Chris Brunt direct free kick, but it bounced right to James Morrison who was curiously completely unmarked at the top of the 18 yard box, and buried an attempt near post.

Long spell in the middle with few quality chances (including Mulumbu and Morrison with somewhat ill-advised 30+ yard attempts) until substitute Shane Long made a man miss with some nifty dribbling and lofted a cross for Lukaku to head home.

Nolan Roux stole one back late with a quality near post blast but WBA managed to kill off the remaining time despite some questionable passing in an attempt to run clock.
