Penalty Deciding Factor in Anzhi Win
After some friendlies, Anzhi was ready to kick off the season against Hannover 96. However, Coach Bronc was afraid pre-game that his club may not be playing at their peak entering the season, saying, "We've shown some flashes of brilliance in preseason friendlies, but we still have to plenty to work on. With the season starting today though, we have little room for mistakes now." With Anzhi's last TFS match being a disappointing Coppa Tradizione Final loss, Coach Bronc has put the pressure on his players to deliver with stellar performance all year long this season. "We can't take any games off," Bronc continued, "I expect nothing less than positive results each and every match." Yet against Hannover, Anzhi fell behind in the 19th minute with a splendid strike from Diouf. Just two minutes later though, Hannover committed a game-changing blunder. After an Anzhi shot hit the post, the ball starting rolling out toward the top of the box. With Eto'o and Cherundolo giving chase, Cherundolo brought down the striker just inside the box before Eto'o could get to the ball. Cherundolo earned himself a yellow card and with Eto'o wincing in pain, Lacina Traore stepped up to hit the penalty kick. Now at 1-1, the game was all square once again. Just before the half, Traore added another goal, and the 2-1 lead was enough to last until the end of the match. "Our defense stepped up their game after allowing that early goal," said Coach Bronc. "I'm glad we stuck in there and fought back. We're still not quite hitting on all cylinders though. We're getting there, but there's no time to waste now in reaching top form. We'll be working on our play in practice to make sure we earn more points throughout the week."

    Great game rschwep

Hannover 96 popped Aston Villa's Serie A cherry in a very back and forth fast paced match. Hannover had 2 chances to take the lead in the first half but missed an absolute sitter on a volley wide and another screamer wide as well. Aston Villa also had a chance in the first half when Vlaar hit a corner header off the crossbar. The second half started with a sweet headed goal by Hannover, but Villa would respond with a quick 1-2 give and go to Agbonlahor who put a low roller in the bottom corner. After much of a defensive struggle Darren Bent caught the Hannover defense sleeping and whipped an absolute beauty of a screamer from outside the box into the bottom corner. That was all she wrote. Great game all around!

    Great game RedAL925

LOSC Lille was truly a test for Villa as they showed their clinical mastery throughout the game. They struck early in the 16th minute off a corner kick. The initial corner was headed out, but right to Payet who placed a nice curving bender in the bottom corner. Lille had a few more chances in the first half, one of which resulted in a MASSIVE scramble in front of the Villa net with 5 shots being either blocked or saved by the defense. Villa tied it up late with a Agbonlahor breakaway. The initial shot was stopped but the rebound came right back to Agbonlahor who headed it softly to the corner. In all honesty, it should have been an easy save. Not to be outdone, Darren Bent put Villa ahead off of a sweet move and cross from super-sub Benteke. He broke in the box, took i to the right side and flipped a cross in for an easy 1-2 header off the post and in. Lille tried to make a late push and had a few shots, but Given showed his sweet moves saving them all.
It was the second win in as many games for new Serie A team Villa. Both wins were 2-1 come from behind victories!

That's exactly the kind of goal that needs to be sent to EA. All he has to do is scoop it up, but instead he dives like an idiot.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves.... at all!

I seem to only score when Benteke comes in for Ireland at CAM which gives a basic 3 striker front formation. All 3 of those guys with bent, Agbonlaor, and Benteke can fire shots from anywhere on the pitch. I cant get myself to take Ireland out of the strating 11 though - cant mess with what is working!

    B. Gomis 8.5 (Lyon ST)

Olympique Lyonnais gets their 1st win in their Season 9 Serie A campaign. In a back and forth match of can you top this, Lyon scores two late goals to seal it. Lyon started the scoring with a Lopez tap in. Swansea City would not go calmly as they scored 2 equalizers in the match. Going into the match, Lyon's main goal was to shut down Dyer. They accomplished this by preventing the speedster to cause havoc on the Lyon backline. They couldn't stop Michu or Pablo Hernandez. But the real story was Gomis with 2 Goals in the final 2 minutes to seal it. The 1st was a rocket outside the box that clinched the win. The last was a rebound that sealed it. Great match vipermansa

Two 90' Goals Stun West Ham, Earn Anzhi A Point
With two ex-Serie A champions battling it out, this match was supposed to be a display of great play. But for much of the match, it was more like a snoozefest. Each team had rather lackluster opportunities in the first half and rarely threatened. Strong defensive play was displayed by both clubs, and it felt like a single goal would likely decide the match. In the 69th minute, it appeared West Ham had won that battle. Finally able to catch the Anzhi D off guard for a moment, Andy Carroll gave the Hammers a 1-0 lead with well-placed shot. Then 4 minutes later, after a West Ham shot hit the post, the ball fell to Carroll in front of a wide open net with no defenders within 5 yards. Carroll calmly and easily put the rebound back into the net to make it 2-0. And just when it appeared over as the match hit the 90th minute, Anzhi came out firing! Samuel Eto'o tried to get the comeback starting when he passed it to Traore just outside the box, and Traore ripped the ball toward the net. The ball touched the post and went in, to cut the lead to 2-1. But even with that goal, the match still appeared done and the final whistle was ready to go off any second. However, Anzhi was able to win a corner kick and with the keeper running up to help out... West Ham cleared the ball away. SURELY the whistle had to blow as ball got to the midfield line, but again, the ref kept the whistle in his pocket. With one last chance, Anzhi tried to create some space on the left side of the pitch. Zhirkov finally managed to get away from his marker, and passed it in to Lassana Diarra. The defensive mid was the Russian club's last hope, and the ex-Real Madrid man curled the ball just past Jaaskelainen and into the net. The whistle finally blew shortly thereafter, and Anzhi had earned themselves a point in an epic comeback. "Wow, just wow," said Coach Bronc following the draw. "Our defense played fantastic for the majority of the match and we narrowly missed a few other opportunities. I'm glad we had enough stoppage time to mount that comeback and I can only imagine the stomach punch that the Hammers are feeling right now. They played a mighty good game, but I guess that's why they say you gotta play 'til the whistle."

Lacina Traore scores Anzhi's first by ripping a shot from just outside the box

Fun Fact: 3 of Anzhi's 6 goals have now come at the 90th minute, with a 4th being scored in the 45th.

Those refs must be getting paid the big bucks for the wealthy Russian club to be getting that Fergie style stoppage time :)
