Tough loss for Marseille in the season opener as Pato slotted home the winner in the 90' minute. Though the French side didn't have much success going forward, they played stout defense in and around the box and forced the Brazilians out wide. Finally, though, in the 90' minute, Emerson laid a pass off to Pato, who turned inside his defender and scored with rocket left foot shot from about 12 yards away.

GG Go Devils tough way to lose the opener.

GG Man. It's tough to lose in the 90th minute as you took a throw in deep in my third and passed into my box without being touched at all. Don't know about 12 years away as The Duck scored about a yard or two back from the penalty, but still painful none the less. We try to pride ourselves on defense here and my back line completely fell apart on that series. Blew about 3 breakaways that I should have put home, but in the end I struggled to get Gignac involved and you ate me alive. And now I have to stew over that as I hang with the in-laws all weekend. :(

12 "yards", not 12 years. Typo, sorry. And yeah, it was from about around the penalty spot. Tough luck.

Adler secures a clean sheet in leading Hamburg to victory

Returning Serie B members Hamburg welcomed newcomer Stoke City to Germany for their opening match of the new season. The home team was able to get off on the right foot early as defender Heiko Westermann was able to tap in a loss ball on a corner kick. Adler was able to keep Stoke's aerial attack at bay and team captain Rafael van der Vaart was able to sneak one past the Stoke keeper on a late free kick. van der Vaart was able to push the ball perfectly under the Stoke wall as they jump and had enough power on it to muscle it past Stoke's keeper hand. Was final score 2-0 or 3-0? Score says one thing (2-0) stats say another with 3 different goal scorers.

Not sure why Claven hasn't posted the info but Ajax 1 - Corinthians 1.

Can't remember who scored for Ajax but Alexandre Pato scored on a corner from Renato Augusto in the 90th.

Matchday 1 saw some early excitement as Ajax would break down the Atl. Minerio defense with some good passing and saw a good lob shot over the top for an easy header into the back of the net. Atl Mineiro would counter in the 20th minute with a bit of luck as Bernard would come crashing in off the corner looking to pass only to see it bounced right back to him with a rather open net and he would punch it in to tie it at 1. Ajax would test the defense of Atl. Mineiro as they would get some really good looks throughout the match. Atl. Mineiro might have seen enough of Tardardi as he sailed many shots today, he is a good player but we need to use him else where, he can't be there on his non dominant foot. At the end of the day, poor offense for Atl. Mineiro and great defense for Mineiro would ultimately result in a tie.

This game saw a bunch of opportunities for both team, finally a big play broke open for Jo and he would put it away. This game could have went either way, if Wolfsburg could have got a few breaks it would have been a different outcome no doubt. Mineiro went back to where they started with a lot of loose defensive attempts with a bunch of missed opportunities. If they could go back to how they played in the Coppa then it'd feel better but for now a win is a win. Hard fought for 90 minutes. Even after the goal Wolfsburg in the 3 mins of match plus 2 minutes of extra time were able to put up multiple shots just couldn't capitalize it.
