&COPPA CONFEDERAZIONEDraw Details Draw Date: Wednesday, March 20 @ 7:30 PM ET Another season, another Coppa! The setup of this season's Coppa is pretty much the same as last season's. Schedule The first group match games will open immediately following the draw. The Round of 16 and the Quarterfinals will remain open for an extended time (a week and a half each), to allow ample time for all games to be completed. And with two groups again containing 5 teams, some teams occasionally will have to play 2 Coppa games in a week (the full schedule will be posted in the Coppa google doc). The dates for the schedule will be as follows: 3/20 - 3/27: Serie Matchweek 1 will have Group Matchday 1 3/27 - 4/3: Serie Matchweek 2 will have Group Matchday 2 4/3 - 4/10: Serie Matchweek 3 will have Group Matchday 3 4/10 - 4/17: Serie Matchweek 4 will be an off week (cushion for unplayed group stage games) 4/17 - 4/28: Round of 16 will be during Serie Matchweek 5 & part of Serie Matchweek 6 4/28 - 5/8: The later part of Serie Matchweek 6 & all of Serie Matchweek 7 will be the time for Quarterfinals 5/8 - 5/15: Back to weekly scheduling, with Semifinals during Serie Matchweek 8 5/15 - 5/22: Coppa Tradizione & Confederazione Final Groups With 34 teams, Groups A & H again will each have 5 teams (chosen because it keeps a balanced bracket format), while the other 6 groups will each have 4 teams. Similar to real-life tournaments with an unequal number of teams per group, the 5th team in each larger group will be a team drawn from the lowest pot, in this case, Pot 4. All groups will still contain at least 1 representative from each Serie level. Pots There will be 4 pots. The pots will be ranked by Coppa title holder and Serie level first, and previous season's results second. Any newcomers will be ranked last. Each of the first 3 pots will contain 8 teams, while Pot 4 will contain all 10 Serie C teams. Here are the pots: Pot 1: LasVegasFC (VfL Wolfsburg), shiftee (Gremio), Zikry (Udinese), BESHIKTAS (QPR), CxMacx10 (West Ham), RedAL925 (LOSC Lille), Broncos218 (Anzhi), rschwep (Hannover 96) Pot 2: vipermansa (Swansea City), juanchoCT14 (Sao Paulo), IJGator (Lyon), MiaFLSurf (Aston Villa), BigSmooth33 (Celtic), redwings8831 (PSV Eindhoven), Isaac Oyer (Ein. Frankfurt), thebouncer24 (Atl. Mineiro) Pot 3: Frenchie1916 (VfB Stuttgart), UcanHateMeNow (Hamburger SV), A_Touch_Of_Class (Saint-Etienne), COLDPredator (Stoke City), Claven (Ajax), Go Devils (Marseille), dooz (Corinthians), ezio (Fluminense) Pot 4: OhDaesu19 (Palermo), Geneseo98 (Everton), pitt4life21 (Spartak Moscow), bbrech0610 (Atalanta), kaptainkracker1 (Athletic Bilbao), Selvy9 (Borussia M'gladbach), gyroman912 (Getafe CF), slicknick202 (Olympiakos), WingedHelmet (Sporting CP), Kella (West Brom) Draw Sequence With the World Cup draw, they draw a team and a slot (1-4) within the group. Since the schedule is already set for each slot within each group, and I don't want to prolong the draw with also drawing group slots when I draw each team, a quick random draw of the of the slot order will be done for each group beforehand. This is done so that certain pots aren't guaranteed 2 home games and further randomizes the playing order within the group. So for example, I'll randomize Group A and it may turn out that slot 1 goes to the 3rd team drawn, slot 2 to the 1st team drawn, etc. If that's at all confusing, just check out the previous Coppa's draw. Primarily, it's just to randomize the matches. After that, the teams will be drawn in a live format, with me posting the results here in this thread at the previously announced draw date & time. First, the Pot 1 teams will be drawn group-by-group. Then, to ensure each group contains a representative from each Serie level, VfL Wolfsburg's assigned group (they are the only Serie B club in Pot 1) will be drawn with one of the 5 Serie A teams from Pot 2. After that, Pot 2 will continue on as normal, being drawn group-by-group. Pot 3 will follow suit, and Pot 4 teams will be drawn last (with the 9th & 10th drawn teams filling the 5th slots in Groups A & H). For any questions, just post over in the Cups Discussion thread.
