With BigSmooth leaving TFS, his spot in Group F will be vacated, creating a 3-team group. Optimally, we'd like to shift around groups so we don't have a 3-team group and two 5-team groups, but considering that we're already over a week into the groups, we want to also prevent cancellation of already played games. So while other options were looked at, there will not be any shifting among the groups.

The Confederazione bracket has been shifted around though to accommodate the 3-team group. You can view the new Confed. bracket in the google doc.

Looks like we have quite the tie in Group F! Here's the table and the results (ignore the position numbers here...) :

    And the tiebreaking procedures are:
    Tiebreakers
In the result of a tie in points within a group, the following procedure will be used to determine the final ranking:
*Note: If at any point during tiebreaking procedures a team is eliminated, then restart the tiebreaker with the remaining teams.
    1. Greatest number of points in matches between teams
    2. Goal difference in matches between teams
    3. Greatest number of goals scored in matches between teams
    4. Goal difference in all group matches
    5. Greater number of goals scored in all group matches
6a. (If two teams remained tied) One match playoff with extra time and penalties if needed at the home of whoever was away in the corresponding group match
6b. (If three or more teams remained tied OR if all remaining teams have clinched advancement to the next round) Drawing of lots

So here's how it breaks down going thru the tiebreakers...
1.) All teams have 3 points in matches between teams
2.) All teams have 0 GD in matches between teams
3.) Stuttgart/QPR have 4 GF in matches between teams, while Sporting CP has 1 GF. Therefore, Sporting CP gets 3rd place, while Stuttgart/QPR remained tied.
-Now, since Sporting CP has been eliminated, we must start from the beginning of the tiebreaker to determine the Stuttgart/QPR split, as noted above in "*Note: If at any point during tiebreaking procedures a team is eliminated, then restart the tiebreaker with the remaining teams."

So now to break up Stuttgart/QPR...
1.) In their match, QPR won and earned 3 points, thus winning the tiebreaker.

So in the end, we have:
    1) QPR BESHIKTAS
    2) VfB Stuttgart Frenchie1916
    3) Sporting CP WingedHelmet

also reading thru the results thread in how you guys thought it was supposed to be broken up, matches between teams means the totals of all matches between those teams. In other words, QPR and Stuttgart each have 4 GF total in all matches between the three teams. It's not who has the best/most GF in just one of the matches.

Ahh, as a grammarian, I was confused by the between vs among. Between teams indicates two adversaries. Among would be indicative of three or more. so it should technically read: Greatest number of goals scored in matches among teams.

But that's just me, and I'm an anal retentive writer. (y)

I see. Yea, I'm not exactly the grammarian myself. I have changed the wording in the tiebreakers to now read:

    1. Greatest number of points in matches among tied teams
    2. Greatest goal difference in matches among tied teams
    3. Greatest number of goals scored in matches among tied teams
    4. Greatest goal difference in all group matches
    5. Greatest number of goals scored in all group matches

Same tiebreakers, but hopefully that's more clear?

I agree with this, since it works with the overall theme of not promoting running up the score. Just a thought for future editions of the tourney.

the tiebreakers are taken straight from the World Cup tiebreakers, but just switching around H2H results to be first and overall group second. But that is something I'm willing to consider for future seasons.

Not because it benefited me this time, but my personal opinion is that I think goals scored should be the tiebreaker rather than goals against. It's more of a proactive approach than a reactive one. If you go into a game knowing you have to win and have to win by two, it's a lot more fun - more exciting than "I'm gonna hunker down and park the bus because as long as I lose by less than 2, I advance."

And this is coming from somebody who has more trouble scoring goals than Fernando Torres.

still a week left until the hard deadline, but some people do need to step it up. Cancelled matches do receive yellow cards still tho.

With Isaac Oyer dropping out of TFS, Group B will now act as a 3-team group. The lone Ein. Frankfurt game played (a 1-5 loss to West Ham) has been wiped out. Slight changes have also been made to the Confed. bracket (5th place of Group H will take the spot of 4th place of Group B now, and there is no longer a need for the preliminary round).

The lone unplayed match left in Group H (Getafe gyroman912 against Stoke COLDPredator ) will be cancelled. They have been unable to connect on multiple occasions and the result of their game if played could only result a swap between 3rd and 4th place (if Getafe won and forced a 3-way tiebreaker for first, Gremio would still hold onto 1st after tiebreakers, Atl. Mineiro would still be 2nd, and Getafe would still remain in 3rd... thus, no change from the current standing).

Should be likely. I was working on the Round of 16 preview, but then everyone got their matches in so quickly! I won't be able to start working on it tho until I'm back home (so likely after the weekend).
