(AP) Philadelphia, PA - The Saints traveled to Philly to try and spoil the party in this Wildcard matchup. It just so happens that these teams both met just 1 year ago where it was the Eagles celebrating by handing the Saints a loss in the Wild Card round. Could the Saints return the favor? If they were going to do it they knew they would have to slow down the quick strike capability and keep Lesean Mccoy in check. It didnt look good early on as the Eagles took the opening possession right down the field and in the blink of an eye had it inside the 10 yard line. Thanks to a stop on 3rd and 1 and a false start on 4th and inches the Eagles had to settle for a FG and a 3-0 lead. The Saints had a quick strike capability of their own as it would turn out as Zabzebski took the second snap of the game and found Adrien Robinson for 69 yards where the Eagles were burned on an all out blitz as the Saints jump out to a 7-3 lead. Thanks to a INT by Malcolm Jenkins and a missed 56 yard FG against the wind the Saints were able to tack on 2 more FG's as they led at the half 13-3.
The Saints knew that a 10 point lead was not a safe lead against this Eagles offense so they took the 2nd half kickoff and put together a 12 play drive that chewed up almost the entire 3rd Qtr as Mark Ingram finished off the drive on a 30 yard TD run to put the Saints up 20-3. Just as the Saints looked like they were starting to relax here come the big play guns of the Eagles as they were able to score on the 1st play of the 4th Qtr on a Tannehill to Jackson strike to make it 20-10. The Saints however would respond on the very next play from scrimmage as Mark Ingram chewed through the middle of a tired Eagles defense for a 74 yard TD run to put the Saints back up 27-10.
The Eagles however were not finished as once again they were able to score quick on a Tannehill to Jeremy Maclin bomb where the Saints were caught in a Cover 2 for a 55 yard TD cutting into that Saints lead now 27-17 with 4 minutes remaining.
The Saints again would turn to their running game which saw Mark Ingram take the 1st play again this time for 50 yards inside the Eagles 20 yard line. The Eagles defense would this time force a Garrett Hartley FG to keep the game within reach now trailing 30-17. The Eagles however would get no closer as the Saints defense put the clamps on and would force the Eagles to turn it over on downs in their own territory on back to back possesions while allowing Hartley's 4th and 5th FG's of the game to seal the victory for the Saints 36-17. The game ball without a doubt has to go to Mark Ingram who rushed for a career high 220 yards and 2 TD's on just 18 carries. The defense also played great limiting Lesean Mccoy to just 20 yards on 11 carries.
The Saints finally get the Playoff monkey off their backs winning their 1st playoff game in 5 seasons and will now have the task of trying to take down a team that slaughtered them twice in the regular season in Coach LtJustice and his Carolina Panthers.
