(AP) San Francisco, CA - The 49ers addressed some glaring holes on their team in this year's draft. The draft was stocked with talent, albeit mostly on defense, which is where the holes of this team reside. Team management went into the draft looking to shore up the defensive line, linebackers and get a threat at tightend to go along with Vernon Davis.

With their first pick they went and got defensive end Gordon Roberson who immediately takes over the starting left end position. A freak of nature, Roberson did 37 reps of 225 at the combine. To go along with his brute strength, he has great awareness. In other words, he's a football guy. Management has said all along they don't need flashy players, but players that love football.

In the second round they addressed another issue. They moved up in the second because they feared the BEST tightend in the draft was not going to be there at their current position. They moved up and selected tightend Munchie Cosh out of Kentucky. The 49ers were on record as saying that they felt that the Titans and Redskins would draft a tightend. They were right as the Titans ended up drafting DeAndre Jones.

Vernon Davis was getting double teamed all season long. Now they have the flexibility in certain formations to line Vernon up in the slot with Crabtree split alongside and Cosh in at tightend. "The possibilities are endless. The majority of the season the defense was focusing on Davis. With the great defensive minds in our division, we thought it was necessary to go out and get a player that they would have to think twice about whether to cover him or Davis. I like our flexibilty", coach Troy said.

In the third round they added some much need depth at the center position drafting Meile Jordan out of Georgia Tech. In the fourth round they went defense again as they go with defensive tackle JJ Cross from Penn. In the final rounds they added a few special teams guys that are long shots to make this team.

"I'm excited with our draft. The Rams and Seahawks gave us fits defensively. I think we improved our team and are looking forward to the season to begin. If the Rams and Seahawks think they are going to run over us again, they better think again. They are beatable and they will be taking down. The 49ers will be the best team in the NFC this year. That's right, I said it," and with that comment, coach Troy got up and walked out of the press room.

Best of luck to the Niners. Based off last year, the NFC West looks like the toughest division top to bottom - far cry from the real NFL!
