USC opened up conference play with sloppy play from both teams, seeing 4 fumbles in the first quarter alone, 2 turning into turnovers, one for each team. SC got the first fumble after a muffed punt return, leading to a quick 3yard touchdown run. Not long after, on the Trojans next possession, the ball was fumbled away on a stupid dive to get out of bounds, dropping the ball as Evans dove, turning it over. Shortly thereafter, SC again found themselves in the endzone to go up 14-0 after a quick stop on the Cougars 4th down attempt. Wash State still couldn't find any offense, resulting in another 3 and out, and SC again scoring, this time through the air to TE Dean. Wazzu's next possession didn't turn out any prettier, as freshman CB Thomas Armstrong got his first career INT.
3 plays later, Brent Bobo took the top off the defense, getting off the press coverage for a wide open 58 yard touchdown strike. Wazzu missed a 30 yard fieldgoal to end the first half, making it 28-0.

SC came out running hard in the 2nd half, getting 3 straight runs for 15 yards or more, but fumbled it away on a 3rd down conversion, making it the 5th fumble of the game. That didnt phase SC, because on the next play, Thomas Armstrong came up with his 2nd career INT. The the trojans rumbled into the end zone yet again on the ground 4 plays later. Owens put the exclamation point on the game with his 60 yard run in the 3rd to make it 42-0 and likely ending his and the rest of the starters' day. Wazzu added one garbage time TD to make it 42-7 and SC chewed the rest of the clock to end the game
