[ ST.LOUIS, MO ] The Seahawks opened the 2020 season on the road travelling to St. Louis to take on the Rams in week 1. The Rams always play tough; particularly at home, and the Seahawks knew they would need to build a lead early if they intended to leave the Edward Jones Dome with a win. The Rams, however, had other intentions as Andrew Luck who was signed by the Rams in the off-season connected with Thurman Banks in the first quarter for a 6 yard TD reception to give the Rams an early 7-0 lead.

The Seahawks would answer on their ensuing drive as Devonta Lumpkin sprinted 21 yards for a TD on a well executed screen play to tie things up at 7-7.

Undaunted by the Seahawks scoring response, the Rams offense marched back down the field. The Rams wound up stopping short and settled for a field goal to retake a second quarter lead, 10-7. The Seahawks attempted to put together a responding drive of their own. However, running back Trevence Curry coughed up the rock in the Red Zone giving the Rams momentum at home.

The Rams were unable to take advantage of the turnover as both teams exchanged possessions. The Seahawks found themselves with possession of the ball in the final two minutes before halftime. Knowing that time was limited, Mark Morgan hit Devonta Lumpkin on a 57 yard streak down the sideline to give the Seahawks a 14-10 advantage.

In an attempt to make something happen in the final minute before the half, Andrew Luck forced a pass to Lawrence Reyes on a curl, only to be intercepted by Justin Gilbert in man coverage. Gilbert jumped the route and returned the interception 29 yards for a TD to increase the Seahawks lead to 21-10.

Following a quick three-and-out by the Rams; the Seahawks offense had the ball at their 34 with :20 remaining. Rather than kneeling out the clock and heading to the locker room, the Seahawks attempted an unbelievable Hail Mary. Devonta Lumpkin squeaked past the Rams secondary once again, this time hauling in a 66 yard pass intended for Giovanni Rivera resulting in a TD to give the Seahawks a 28-10 lead at halftime.

The Rams responded quickly opening the third quarter with a 21 yard TD reception by Lawrence Reyes which cut the Seahawks lead to 28-17.

The Rams defense stepped up as well, knocking the ball out of Mark Morgan's hands and recovering at the Rams 19 yard line.

The Rams, however, would turn the ball over on downs which resulted in momentum shifting back to the Seahawks.

The Seahawks would tack on a fourth quarter field goal to bring the score to 31-17 with just over two minutes remaining in the game. Down, but not out, the Rams would make one final push to tie or win the game. The Rams 2-minute offense formulated a Terry Easton 11 yard TD reception on a post route over the middle with :26 remaining.

It was too little, too late, though as the ensuing Rams onside kick attempt was unsuccessful and the Seahawks ran out the clock to seal the all important divisional road win.

Good game, Kris. Always a tough, gritty battle regardless of what personnel you have on your team. We'll see you again in week 12. Good luck to you until then! Coach KO
