Post your game summaries in here.
Spartans Improve to 1-0
Broncos are no match for Michigan State.
Michigan State gets a win at home against in-state Western Michigan. Brilliant football played on both sides as the Spartans defended their house. Le'Veon Bell broke out of the gates with 209 rush yards on 17 carries while adding his 1st career touchdown at Michigan State. His quickness, strength and vision were admired all game long as he made defenders look like peewees. Edwin Baker, Bell's sidekick, threw in 51 yards on 10 carries. Kirk Cousins played almost perfect. He completed 11 passes out of 16 attempts for 195 yards with 3 touchdowns and no interceptions. Keshawn Martin & Keith Nichol were Cousin's main targets on the day as they both caught over 3 passes and 1 touchdown. The beast known as Greg Jones had 12 tackles on the day, 10 of them being solo. Eric Gordon & Chris L Rucker had interceptions on the day while Rucker took his to the house. The only negative on the day was Kicker Dan Conroy missing both of his field goal attempts.
A Strong Start
UCLA Dominates Kansas State, 26-10
All of UCLA's campus was buzzing with anticipation for Coach Jam's coaching debut, and he didn't disappoint. Aside from a few missed field goals, the Bruins played almost flawless football. UCLA controlled the clock by a bruising running game and confused the Kansas State defense by passing often out of play action. Kansas State was totally outmatched, though talent levels were similar for the two teams. UCLA RB Franklin led the way as the Bruins won this game easily, 26-10.
Michigan gets an opening day win against Conneticut 24-10 on a rainy day in Ann Arbor. The Wolverine defense was lights out allowing only 206 yards. Conneticut only managed 3 third down conversions in 12 attempts and were stuffed on 2 of their 3 fourth down tries.
The Michigan special teams came up big with a fumble return TD on the 2nd half KO (pictured above) while freshman kicker B. Gibbons made his first FG attempt as a Wolverine.
The offense, however, wasn't a pretty sight - mostly the running game. It was downright dreadful. On the day UM mustered only 4 yards on 27 carries with D Robinson getting 23 on 17 carries and RB Shaw posting and embarrassing -16 yards rushing on 9 carries.
A win is a win however and Michigan goes to 1-0 (0-0) with Notre Dame coming to the Big House week 2.
DEFENSE COMES TO PLAY, CAL WINS 23 - 0
Cal's defense pitches a no-hitter to open 2010 season
Freshman Two-way star, Keenan Allen, scores on a 48 TD reception from QB Riley
SAN JOSE, CA -- The weakness for the 2010 Golden Bears was supposed to be defense. That was not the case in their first contest of the season. The CAL defense shutout the overmatched San Jose St. Spartans and held them to only 3 yards rushing. On the offensive side of the ball, running backs Vereen and DeboskieJohnson rushed for 189 yards and a TD. On the negative side, QB Kevin Riley was only 6 of 17 for 97 yards and a TD. Riley's play will have to improve if the Bears are going to be competitive in the PAC 10.
Next week - @ Colorado
I'm loving the new start and summaries! Great job guys! Ryty you switched to Cal?
Yeah....it was between Arizona and Cal. The coin flip landed in favor of Cal.
Yeah the new start is a great idea. All of the user teams look good this year!
Very glad we are all contributing! Small summary and picture to keep us all interested!
You went to Cal?!?!?!? Damn was hoping for the Zona rivalry! Now yuo got me thinking Stanford so the California teams are represented....dick...
Big win for Purdue snagging Shilleagh trophy.
Robert Marve leads the offense and a pesky Purdue defense shock the Golden Domers.
SurvivalPSU survives Temple after going down 31-14
New Coach Bobjr is still trying to get used to his new team in Happy Valley. Starting QB Robert Bolden didn't fair well in his first career start only throwing for 87 yards and 1 TD 1 Int. With the offense sputtering at halftime, the coach decided to go to Kevin Newsome. Even though Kevin threw 2 interceptions, he did show great poise towards the end of the game bringing the Nittany Lions back to win 35-31.
Up next the dreaded Alabama Crimson Tide..whoa nellie
Spartans Move To 2-0
Michigan State moves to 2-0 on the season as it defeats the Florida Atlantic Owls 24-14. LeVeon Bell had another terrific game going for 148 yards and 2 scores. However, he did fumble twice. Coaches have made some adjustments to help him but he is going to have to learn how to carry the ball better. The passing game wasn't as good as last week. Shouldn't have had an interception but I hit the wrong button causing a throw into heavy coverage. Greg Jones now has 20 sacks in 2 games as he added 8 against the Owls. Also, Jones made a great play on the ball picking up his 1st interception of the year. Michigan State travels to South Bend next week to face a true test against the Fighting Irish. Should be a great one!
GOLDEN BEARS MOVE TO 2-0Cal walks off with a 34 - 17 win over Colorado
Freshman Keenan Allen catches a 21 yard TD pass from Kevin Riley
BOULDER, Co -- Once again, the defense and special teams lead the Bears (2-0) in a 34 - 17 victory over the Colorado Buffaloes (1-1). Shane Vereen got the Bears off early returning the opening kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown. After a defensive stop by the Cal defense, Kevin Riley hooked up with Keenan Allen on a 21 yard TD pass to give the Bears a 14 - 0 lead. Unfortunately, the Buffaloes would respond. They would cut the lead to 20 - 17 before a critical Hansen interception was returned for a TD to put the Bears up 27 - 17. Cal would add one more touchdown in the 4th to seal the victory.
Up Next - Home opener against Iowa!
Big game next week against the Hawkeyes!
Ohio State Running Back Brandon Saine scampers from the Miami D on a 78 yard run.OHIO STATE: 14MIAMI: 17The Miami Hurricanes came back from a 10 point deficit in the 4th quarter to beat the #2 Ohio State Buckeyes in the season opener. The Buckeyes didn't live up to expectations in Columbus and head back to the drawing board. Terrelle Pryor had a terrible game completing only 6 of 20 passes for just over 100 yards while also throwing 2 interceptions. Pryor overthrew WR after WR, frustrating coach Frisk. Jacory Harris played exceptionally well, especially in the 4th quarter, converting 3 4th downs to lead his team to victory. The #2 Ohio State Buckeyes had hopes for a National Title but will not likely make it this season. The Buckeyes will face Ohio next week.
UCLA Flexes Its Muscles; Moves to 2-0Stanford is embarrassed, 41-10UCLA welcomed the Stanford Cardinal in week 2 of the 2010 season, wary of starting Stanford QB Andrew Luck. A preseason heisman favorite, UCLA knew they had to contain him in order to have a chance in this game. However, it looked like it would be a long day in store for the Bruins once Luck drove down the field easily on the first drive of the game for a TD, and as Stanford recovered a UCLA fumble on the Bruins' first play from scrimmage. From then on it would be all UCLA. RB Franklin led the way with a punishing run game and QB Prince made plays when need be. This game quickly turned into a laugher as UCLA remained undefeated on the season, improving to 2-0.
Penn state dominated 2nd half beats #1 Crimson Tide... Pics and recap coming
Sun Devils Start Season with FireworksASU 30 SDSU 3The Arizona State Sun Devils opened their season in week 2 with a home meeting with the San Diego State Aztecs. QB Steven Threet had an absolutely phenomenal game leading his Sun Devils to the victory. There was no doubt in this game who was the better team. The ASU defense played great football throughout, only giving up 3 points and not allowing SDSU to convert once on 3rd down, despite 9 attempts. The Aztecs were held to 5 total yards rushing on 23 carries. Unfortunately for ASU, they couldn't find the rhythm on the ground as HB Marshall only managed 47 yards on 21 attempts. Threet had an All-American day through the air going 14 of 18 with 352 yards and 3 TDs with no turnovers. His go to guy was WR Robinson who hauld in 5 passes for an outstanding 208 yards and 2 TDs. Next week, the Sun Devils will the Wisconsin Badgers in Tempe for a big match up against one of the Big10's finest, and a HB that is impossible to take down.
Michigan traveled to South Bend to face the 0-1 Fighting Irish. Michigan had a strong showing in the 1st half jumping out to a 20-3 lead heading into halftime. The second half would be a completely different story. Notre Dame put up 35 points in the half and was completely unstoppable. QB Crist was 19-20 for 300 yards and 2 TD's before being knocked out of the game in the 4th. True freshman Nick Montana picked up where he left off finishing 9-13 for 171 yards and 3 TD's, all in the 4th. 2 of his 4 incompletions came on spikes to stop the clock on their final drive. Michigan got the ball with :58 left on the clock but Robinson missed a wide open receiver and was then sacked 2 consecutive times before failing to convert a 4th and 20. Notre Dame wins 38-34.
Michigan may have found a new starting halfback in sophmore V. Smith. He finished the day with 82 yards on just 3 carries and scored 2 TD's on runs of 13 and 57 yards.
Michigan gets two straight MAC opponents in Miami U and Bowling Green to try to correct their errors before conference play starts week 5.
Man, I got them next..
ShockerPenn State gives the nation the shocker by beating #1, 36-29
On a dreary, muddy field the Nittany Lions came to play. Going toe to toe with Alabama in the first half, Penn State was able to keep it close the first half, with Bama leading 21-19 at the break. The second half would be a completely different story. Penn State would rally after halftime and put up 10 unanswered points to go up 29-19 at the end of the third quarter. Some timely tackling would hold Bama to only 7 points in the second half. PSU would add a Touchdown before that would even happen. This was truly a test of a game against the CPU. I never knew McElroy was Joe Montana in this game. Next up for PSU is Kent State.
Players of the game:
Robert Bolden 18/32 302 yards and 2 TDs 0 Ints
Evan Royster 30 car 144 yards 1 TD
Stephfon Green 2 TDs
Khariri Fortt 6 Tkls
If you get a lead, MILK IT!!
I like how me and BOB had the exact same line, "the 2nd half would be a completely different story". His in triumph, mine in defeat.
Separate names with a comma.
