After securing the quick commitment, all has been quiet on the recruiting trail for the Terps. I have a hand full of guys that I am holding steady as the number 1 school, but I just can't pull in the commitment yet. None of the guys though are game changers, but I'm hoping that a few of them will turn into solid contributors after a few years if I can pull them in. It seems like it is going to take a few seasons before I am able to reel in any big fish out on the trail.

Yes we are very happy with the commit by Jacobs. In a pass first offense that likes to spread the field he will have the opportunity to be a dangerous weapon. He will definitely see the field starting from day one.

2010 Battle for the South 5 star Recruiting battles

With only 19 five star recruits in this year’s recruiting class we are seeing some nice (and legal) battles for these recruits. We’re going to focus on the battles in the south.

DE Mark Alexander- #2 overall prospect- Home: Texas- Top 3 schools Tennessee, Florida State, & Miami. Mark is a 6-4 235lb balance DE who will be able to use his finesse at the next level to cause opposing QB problems. Prediction- Florida St.

HB Daniel Little- #4 overall prospect- Home: California- Top 2 schools USC & Alabama. Daniel is a 6’0 224lb balanced HB with good speed and good all around attributes. Majority of his HB grades are no lower than a B which is great for an incoming HB. Prediction- Stays home and attends USC

DE Cory Lloyd- # 6 overall prospect- Home: Ohio- Top 3 schools Ohio St, Georgia, & West Virginia. Cory is a 6’5 278lb balanced DE who will use his size and power moves at the next level to disrupt opposing offenses. Prediction- Ohio St.

SS Kyle Dixon # 9 overall prospect- Home: Texas- Top 4 schools Virginia Tech, Auburn, Florida St. Texas. Kyle is a 6-1 194lb hard hitting safety and the top rated safety in high school this year. Grading in with B+ speed, B- Acceleration, B Tackle, B- zone coverage and C+ Play recognition Kyle will be a difference maker for 3 or 4 years to whatever team he commits too. The ability to stop the run, make sure tackles, and have decent coverage skills will make him a player any coach will trust in the secondary. Prediction- Auburn

T Marcello Jones # 11 Overall prospect- Home: Arkansas- Top 5 schools Georgia, Miami, Auburn, Tennessee, Florida State. Marcello is a 6’8 300lb balance tackle and the top prospect at his position. Marcello’s B+ Acceleration and solid pass and run blocking grades should help him anchor any offensive line in the Nation. Prediction- Georgia

WR Josh Darby #12 Overall prospect- Home: Louisiana- Top 3 teams Georgia, LSU, & Miami. Josh is a Skinny 6-1 161lb balanced wide receiver. Due to his small body size Josh has good speed grading in with B+ speed and acceleration. With C+ Catching and C- route running he will need to improve his position skills at the next level if he wants to be great at the next level. Prediction- LSU

DT Napoleon Haley #14 Overall prospect- Home: California- Top 3 teams Oregon, Florida St, & Auburn. Napoleon is a 6’1 281lb pass rushing DT, and the top recruit at his position. With grades of C speed, and C+ acceleration Napoleon moves very well for his size. Add his speed to his consistent grades B- & C+ defensive grades and you have a stud DT. Prediction- Oregon

MLB Alvin Brown #15 Overall prospect- Home: Florida- Top 4 teams Miami, Florida St. Georgia, Auburn. At 6-0 232lbs Alvin is the top MLB recruit in the nation, and well sought after in the south. Alvin has good speed, acceleration, play recognition, pursuit, hit power and strength rating which programs look for in a well balanced MLB recruit. Prediction- Miami

    Euless, TX

    A- Speed
    B Acceleration
    C Catching
    C+ Catch In Traffic
    B Jumping

Needs to work on his elusiveness but in a couple seasons he has the potential to be a stud in my offense.

    2010-2011 Recruiting Thread

FSU has been doing well signing players at key positions. We have 11 schollys to give out and have signed 6 so far.

    Alvin Brown
    MLB (#1) :5stars:
    6'0" 232 LBs
    Delray Beach, FL

Best MLB is this years class. This guy is a stud and may have a chance to start from day one. Stole him from Miami, who we were in a tight battle with. Miami had a soft commit on him but we got him to come to the right Florida team.

    B Speed
    B+ Accel
    C+ Tackle
    B- Play Recognition
    B- Block Shedding
    B Pursuit
    B Hit Power

    Jon Hendrix
    DE (#5) :4stars:
    6'2" 243 LBs
    Washington, PA

He's listed as the #5 DE in the country, but he very well may be the most talented one. This guy is a great athlete for a DE with a perfect combination of speed and strength. This is another guy who will probably be starting the moment he steps on the field. The Seminoles are weak at DE so he will be a great addition.

    B+ Speed
    B Accel
    B- Strength
    C Tackle
    C+ Power Moves
    C Finesse Moves
    C+ Block Shed
    B+ Pursuit

    Philip Jacobs
    TE (#1) :4stars:
    6'5" 242 LBs
    Oak Ridge, FL

Another signee from the home state is another #1 player at his position. He's one of the most athletic prospects at the TE position this year with 4.5 speed. Still a little raw but has solid hands and is a decent route runner. When he gets the ball he is very tough to get down.

    B Speed
    C Accel
    C Catching
    C Catch In Traffic
    B- Strength
    B+ Break Tackle

    Bryan Jones
    WR (#3) :4stars:
    6'1" 207 LBS
    Euless, TX

FSU has been working hard to snag some talent from the football factory that is the state of Texas. They got a pretty good one from the WR position in Jones. Good speed and hands. And pretty good hops, he's going to flourish in the FSU offense.

    A- Speed
    B Accel
    C+ Agil
    C Catching
    C Route Running
    C+ Catch In Traffic
    B Jumping

    Barrett Rutledge
    FS (#3) :4stars:
    6'3" 188 LBs
    Wekiva Springs, FL

One of the top FS prospects will be taking his talents down the road to Tallahasse. Rutledge has the physical qualities you want at the FS position, tall and solidly built. He can cover a lot of field and hit like a hammer. Reminiscent of another former player from the state of Florida, the late Sean Taylor. He'll have a chance to learn for a year before he hits the field for full time duty.

    A Speed
    B+ Accel
    B Agility
    B- Tackle
    C Man Coverage
    B Zone Coverage
    B- Hit Power
    C- Strength

    Marques Howard
    C (#1) :4stars:
    6'2" 274 LBs
    Spring, TX

The second signee from Texas is a top offensive lineman at the center position. This guy is a good all-around blocker and is quick off the ball. Could be a starter as a freshman

    C Speed
    B Accel
    C+ Agility
    C+ Pass Block
    C+ Run Block
    B- Strength

We have a couple more soft commits, including the #1 DE in the country Mark Alexander.

Very Excited about our 3 new recruits this week.... All of them were tough recruiting battles to bring in

In recruiting news, the following Georgia targets have announced their decisions:

James from Florida, and JJ from Maryland are two all around OL-men who will contribute for years to come on the offensive Line... Nice balance Lineman

    J.J. Henry

Awareness C- Pass Block Footwork C+

Injury B Run Block Strength C
    Impact Blocking C+

Also have to congratulate Florida St for pulling in the MLB Brown Georgia and Miami were also in play for.

Tough recruiting battles in the south... will hurt your feelings.

Yeah good job Shino, beat me out for that QB. Wanted to negative recruit against you, but you have better or equal grades for all pitches. Once you got that soft commit I know it was a wrap. He'll be a good one once Aaron Murray is out of there.

That's what I'm hoping for, but unless I find maybe a good Juco player, he will not be redshirted next year. We have no depth at the position. But you beat me out on the top DE's this year... Only team I've had success neg recruiting against has been Miami... LOL

Yep, that's how I got Brown. I was talking all kinds of shit about Da U. Muahahaha. As far as our battle for Hendrix, I put the full court press on him, we need DE badly, we get no pressure on the QB with just a 4 man rush. Hendrix should help out immensely and we have the #1 DE close to signing so we have our end of the future. I'm excited, cause once we sure up the D it's going to be trouble.

Maybe next season Maryland will be able to talk about signing four and five star players......

This is fun though. It will be a tough challenge trying to rebuild the program while so many other teams just reload year after year. Hopefully some of my lower ranked guys I am targeting turn out to be some sort of hidden gems.

I just realized he must have committed during your call this week because he's not showing up as committed yet.... And I wasted some time on him this week.... Thanks FSU for stealing all of my DE's, I was really looking for a play-maker at that position. It was one of my top targets this off season.

We have some nice players that I think will commit soon. Some 4 star and good 3 star players. If we put together a few winning seasons we can move to be a 4 and 5 star program and compete with the big boys for the top talent!

Though Ga has signed some top talent, and should sign a couple more I'm not completely happy with our recruiting thus far. Two Goals I had coming into the season we are going to fail on is adding a bit time DE playmaker to our roster, that we we came close, but failed multiple times thanks to FSU.

The second goal we will not complete is finding a stud FB to start day one in place of our two seniors we have graduating. Let's just say the prospects we have now look horrible. I will more than likely have to try convert one of my Junior TE's to play FB next year for their senior season. That will be okay since we have depth at TE to play with. But I would love to Derrick Tyler that stud FB Alabama Signed.

I am happy we are addressing our goals of getting strong talent on the O-line, adding another Play-making WR, and a top QB to add depth and be a 3 or 4 year starter for us.

Updated first post to reflect Week 8 Signings.

Congratulations to Arkansas and Tennessee who had a good week of commits, and Wake Forest for securing their first commit. Also Auburn, BC, and Miami added a couple nice recruits commit.

Thanks. We are excited about the QB and RB we got. We are getting some nice 4 star players, which is rare for Arkansas in real life.

We just signed our 8th player this week. 3 star G Ben Gunn from Sulphur, LA. 6'5" 295. I like his size and potential to play all positions on the OL.

Maryland has only signed two recruits so far, both 3 star kids. The rest of the recruiting is not looking so hot right now. I've lost a number of important recruits already who would have been important upgrades at various positions. MLB is one of my positions of need and I will probably not be able to fill it with a decent recruit. I'm going to have to start looking at which of my OLBs I might be able to change positions. This is probably my most realistic choice as I am leading on two OLB recruits who will fill in for any gaps that this position change may cause.

We'd been waiting on Mark Alexander all season long, and we were neck-and-neck with some User teams to get him, so glad to have him as he'll be another great contribution to our solid defensive line.
