Coach Dru returns to his old stomping grounds (in more ways than one in this game), and comes out with the W. the Trojans were able to throw the ball pretty effectively, especially taking advantage of match ups with TE Telfer against LBers and S's in space. Boise ran the ball effectively but really struggled early in the passing game.

    Max Wittek 21-25, 257 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT
Marquise Lee 7 catches, 92 yards 1 TD
Randall Telfer 6 catches, 114 yards 1 TD

Jay Ajayi 13 carries, 107 yards
    Joe Southwick 12-19, 101 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT

    Good game Kapono.

    SMU Survives
    defeat Louisiana Tech 20-17

Five Garrett Gilbert interceptions couldn't quite spoil the "debut" of Coach Akai Boom at the helm of the Mustangs.

After a scoreless first quarter, Louisiana Tech jumped to a 7-0 with a short TD pass thanks in large part to one of the four first-half Gilbert interceptions. Luckily for SMU, the defense only surrendered 10 points in the half, trailing 10-3 at the break. Gilbert limited turnovers in the second half, connecting on TD passes to WRs Jeremy Johnson and Der'rikk Thompson, the later which put the Mustangs ahead for good at 17-10. A FG with merely 30 seconds remaining sealed the victory for SMU, though Tech would find the Mustang defense napping on a long TD pass with merely second remaining.

    Notable Stats
    QB Garrett Gilbert - 25/42, 320 yards, 2 TD, 5 INT
HB Rishaad Wimbley - 10 car, 78 yards, long 15
    WR Der'rikk Thompson - 9 rec, 160 yards, TD, long 52
WR Jeremy Johnson - 6 rec, 60 yards, TD, long 19
FS Hayden greenbauer - 3 tack, INT

    UCLA - 41
    Oklahoma State - 35

The Bruins survive a shoot-out with the Cowboys in Pasadena. OSU forced the first punt of the game with the socred tied at 14 only to throw 2 picks leading to 10 UCLA points before halftime. UCLA lead 24-14 at the break.

OSU would score 14 unanswered in the 3rd quarter to take a 4 point lead into the 4th. But UCLA would answer back with 17 straight points, putting the game out of reach. The Cowboys cut the lead to 6 on a long TD pass with just over a minute to play. The onside kick failed and UCLA was able to pick up a 1st down to run out the clock.

GG SatansAngel1104 5 picks killed you in this one and you still had a shot a the end.

    Stats
    QB Chelf OSU 18/26 329 Yards, 3 TD's, 5 INT's, 7 Carries, 65 Yards, 2 TD's
    QB Hundley UCLA 18/27 237 Yards, 3 TD's, 1 INT
HB James UCLA 14 Carries, 66 Yards, 1 TD
WR Steward OSU 4 Catches, 90 Yards, 1 TD
    WR Evans UCLA 5 Catches, 102 Yards, 2 TD's

Neither team played much offense in this game with Boise outgaining Stanford 228-193 while winning the turnover game 3-1. This game seemed to move by somewhat quickly and Boise went into half up 7-6, getting the ball. Boise got the ball, gave it back, and Stanford answered with a TD and 2-point conversion, up 14-7. Boise's kicker came in to boom a 55-yard FG that looked good from 65, 14-10 Stanford. Boise HB Jay Ajayi rambled in from 21 yards out with 5:51 left. Stanford did nothing on offense and had to punt back to Boise, who went 3 plays for 9 yards on the Stanford 43. Instead of kicking of go for it, Boise made the fans mad by punting. It paid off, going out right at the Stanford 1. Stanford couldn't move much, turning the ball over. They got it back once more down 6, but with little time and no time-outs they failed to score.

    Boise
QB Joe Southwick- 8-13 for 92 yards, INT, 3 carries for 37 yards
HB Jay Ajayi- 22 carries for 102 yards, 2 TD
WR Kirby Moore- 2 receptions for 39 yards

    Stanford
QB Kevin Hogan- 7-18 for 131 yards, 3 INT
HB A Wilkerson- 15 carries for 60 yards, TD
WR D Cajuste- 3 receptions for 43 yards

    Turnovers Doom Stangs in Berkeley

SMU was looking real pretty in the second quarter after taking two long possessions and scoring a 10-0 lead, and then picking off freshman Zach Kline. As the Mustangs drove into the redzone yet again, Gilbert looked like he got fooled on a blitz coverage and got picked of by the corner. Kline and Cal got going after that, scoring 14 straight with the aid of a second Gilbert INT before SMU drove the field nicely and scored to end the half up 17-14.

The 3rd quarter was all California, as they marched their way to 10 straight points and a 24-17 lead. But SMU again came back with a scoring drive of their own to tie it with about 5 minutes to play. From there the Bears methodically drove into scoring territory and Kline connected with Harper for the second time in the game on a 21 yard pass for the lead. Gilbert would throw a pick on the very next play, all but sealing the fate of his team, but a missed FG gave them new life with 40 seconds to play. Unfortunately Gilbert's next pass was picked off on the sidelines to preserve the Cal victory.

GG Boom29, you had me on the ropes early in the 2nd but that first pick changed everything. I thought I had 2 more pick-6's but they were dropped.

    KEY STATS:

    CAL :
    QB Kline 17-19, 225, 3 tds, 1 Int, 1 rush td
    RB Bigelow 17 for 37
    WR Harper 6 for 78, 2 tds
WR Lawler 3 for 36, td

    SMU :
    Gilbert 28-37, 328, 3 tds, 4 Int
    WR Thompson 12 for 157, 2 tds
    WR Johnson 5 for 50, 1 td

    Washington 27
    Baylor 24

Washington wins a back and forth battle with Baylor. The first half started with both teams trading touchdowns with little sign of life on defense. Washington received the opening kick and was the last to score in the first half to take a 21 -14 lead. Baylor made the first mistake of the game by throwing a redzone pick on the first drive of the second half. Washington kicked a FG to take a 10 point lead going into the fourth quarter. Baylor put together another good drive but a 3rd down sack forced a FG. On the next possession, Baylor got the stop they needed to get back into the game by forcing a punt. 50+ yards later Baylor tied up the game with 2:38 remaining. Washington drove into field goal range, then grinded out a 3 run first down to use up Baylor's timeouts and kick the game winning FG as time expired.

    Washington:
    Price 12/16 233 yards 1 TD
    Sankey 18 carries 108 yards 2 TDs
    K. Smith 4 catches 96 yards 1 TD

    Baylor:
    Petty 22/29 273 3 TD 1 TD
Seastrunk 14 carries for 83 yards
    Reese 9 catches 151 yards 3 TD

    Oregon Ducks 28
    TCU Horned Frogs 35

As expected, the showdown between Oregon and TCU was a shootout. The Ducks and Frogs met in Dallas and scored a total of 63 in a thriller.

The leadership at TCU took an unexpected turn with the unexpected resignation of Gary Patterson. Too many scandals and the bad reputation of the Patterson regime took their toll and drove them out of town. In their wake, a very quick coaching search left Art Vandalay at the helm.

Many critics have been worried that Vandalay's offensive style might not fit the current roster, but if the game against Oregon is any indication, that won't be the problem. QB Casey Paschall had quite a game completing 20 of 26 passes for 204 yards as well as scampering for another 82 yards. Paschall has been a pocket QB, but, as Coach Vandalay said, has "soaked up the playbook faster than expected."

On the Oregon side of the ball, QB Marcus Mariotta has a reputation as one of the best running signal callers in college football, but he had quite a game tossing the ball against TCU, throwing for 256 yards and 3 TDs.

    Vandalay stated after the game:
"To be honest, none of us knew what to expect. We only had a couple of practices and really don't have a great feel for the guys on the roster. But it's a tribute to the quality of the people wearing the uniform, that they have busted their butts and pulled out a victory against a great opponent like Oregon. Now it's time to get to work and prove we weren't just lucky this week."

Ya, good game. My passing offense eventually wears me down at some point in the game. All in all, I was happy with the way my offense moved the ball and with the way my defense stopped your run.

Oregon stumbles on Texas two step

In their second straight game in the state of Texas, the Ducks would leave win-less in the state. There were basically only 4 possessions total in the first half. Two of them, by Texas, ended with HB Bergeron one yard TD's. The two by Oregon ended with a punt and a pick 6. Texas was up 21-0 at the half.

Oregon would get a scoring chance on their first possession of the half, but throw a pick in Texas territory. The drive was capped off by an 11 yard TD pass to TE McFarland. QB Mariota would finally get into the groove of things, throwing a 46 yard TD to WR Hawkins. Ash then wanted to get into the interception party, throwing one of his own. The Ducks would score on a TD pass to TE Lyerla, and we had a game. But, more picks by Mariota would ruin any chance of a comeback. gg bringbackjimmy

In the battle of the Bears Baylor used a fast start to take home a big win. Lache Seastrunk took the opening kickoff 106 yards for a TD. After a UCLA punt, Seastrunk struck again with a 29 yard TD run off of an option pitch. After another UCLA punt, the star HB did it one more time, this time catching a short pass and running over the safety before cruising in from 21 yards out to put his team in front 21-0. In the second quarter the teams traded INTs before Seastrunk scored his fourth TD of the contest, this time on a counter play from 27 yards out where his blockers pancaked pretty much the entire UCLA defense. The Bruins finally struck back with a TD with just 11 seconds until the half. Fearing Seastrunk in the return game, the Bruins squibbed it but that gave the Bears possession on their 40. One play later Baylor was lining up for an easy FG with 2 ticks left, 31-7 Baylor at the break.

The second half was basically a shootout as Hundley came to life throwing for about 250 yards after halftime. Unfortunately for Bruins fans, Seastrunk didn't cool down, putting 2 more TDs on the board in the fourth game to seal the win.

GG recchem2000 My HB was just extraordinary in this one

    Mustangs Run Away From Mountaineers
outscore West Virginia 35-0 in second half

West Virginia built a 10-0 first quarter lead highlighted by returning the opening kickoff 86 yards for a TD and appeared to be on their way to blow the game wide open as they drove into SMU territory. Yet, an errant pass by the West Virginia QB was all it took for the Mustangs to get back in the game. Strong Safety Jay Scott intercepted a pass near the left sideline and ran down the field uncontested for an 81 yard TD. The touchdown put the Mustangs on the scoreboard, at a point when they had no business being in the game. Though the Mountaineers would reclaim their 10 point lead midway through the second quarter, it was SMU that carried the momentum into halftime.

Beginning with a long FG to end the first half, the Mustangs scored 38 unanswered points to win going away. SMU returned the favor to begin the second half by returning the kickoff 101 yards for a TD to tie the game. From there, QB Garrett Gilbert would march the offense up and down the field connecting with WR Jeremy Johnson late in quarter to give the home team their first lead at 24-17. The fourth quarter continued the SMU dominance as turnovers and sacks began to pile up for the West Virginia offense, giving SMU good field position. Halfback Rishaad Wembley would cash in the first of his two short TD run on the first play of the quarter, which would be followed by Gilbert's second TD pass of the game a few minutes later to give SMU a commanding 38-17 lead.

    Notable Stats
    QB Garrett Gilbert - 28/37, 351 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT
    HB Rishaad Wimbley - 15 car, 49 yards, 2 TD, long 9
    WR Der'rikk Thompson - 8 rec, 137 yards, long 40
WR Jeremy Johnson - 7 rec, 83 yards, TD, long 19
SS Jay Scott - 4 tack, INT, TD
DE Andrew McCleneghen - 3 tack, 2 TFL, 2 sack

Pretty much as expected in this one. Boise led 20-0 at halftime. The offense looked good, but Southwick did throw a pick-6. Boise out-rushed Idaho 301 to -17.

QB Nick Patti- 4-5 for 90 yards

not getting 3rd down stops is a recurring theme this year. We'll have to see at the end of the season, but I am betting at least 8-10 users will have about 70% or higher 3rd down efficiency which is kinda silly

    Washington 45
    Oklahoma State 21

Washington came out on fire converting their 5 first half possession into 35 points. Price was nearly flawless with all of his production coming in the first half. Oklahoma State came out looking strong with an 84 yard TD run by Jeremy Smith on their first play from scrimmage. Smith also added a 74 yard TD run in the second quarter, but Oklahoma's offense was stifled otherwise with sacks and failed 3rd down conversions killing most drives. Washington ran the entirety of the second half. OSU put up a ton of yards but they did not translate into a lot of points.

    Washington:
    Price: 14/17 281 3TD
    Sankey 23 carries 99 yards 3 TD
    Smith 2 catches 103 1 TD

    OSU:
    Chelf 14/23 168 yards 1 TD 1 INT
    Smith 18 carries 241 yards 2 TD
    Moore 4 catches 75 yards 1 TD

GG, satan I know it must have been difficult to sit through my offense.

It's not the offense... thats my normal MO... give up 80+% on third downs...
Your defense is ridiculous... It looked like Dime w/ Spy and (whatever the name is where the 4 CB and MLB are in short zone) and the three defensive lineman just plow through 6 Blockers seemingly every pass.
So i just bailed on the game (circa Missouri game reference above)

After losing a sim to Fresno, Cal came back and won a difficult matchup with Utah. Wilson went for close to 150 and 3 scores on the ground off the read in the first half alone. Keyed him in the 2nd half and shut him down completely.

Meanwhile Kline was on fire, throwing for 300 in the first half on the other side and Cal took a 35-28 lead into the break. A much more defensive 2nd half yielded 3 points apiece as Cal closed it out.

The Trojans travelled to Seattle and won in a place that has historically been trouble for the So Cal boys. This was as close as games get, decided on an INT by Huskies QB Price with under 20 seconds to play. Each team had over 400 yards of offense in a game that harkened back to the days before the proliferation of the spread offense, as neither teams 3rd WR played much or really had an impact. Good game whygodwhy1111.

Boise State's defense was awesome in this one. Holding TT to just 1 field goal and stopping Texas Tech on a 1st and goal on the 1 yard line. They did this without even forcing a Texas Tech turnover. But, the offense was pretty bland. They couldn't really sustain a drive and only totaled 197 yards in the game. A nice kick return led to Boise's 1st FG early in the game. Tech followed that with an nice drive that ended with a FG, 3-3 exciting game at the end of the 1st. Boise was able to get another FG midway through the 2nd quarter, 6-3 at half. Nobody scores until the backup HB Derrick Thomas gets a 1-yard TD run with 5:39. Boise then let TT get to the goal line, but held them on 4 straight plays to win 13-3.

QB Joe Southwick- 10-21 for 93 yards, INT
HB Jay Ajayi- 27 carries for 104 yards, 11 yard reception
