The Rams opened the season in detroit to take on the might lions. This game can only be described as ugly for the Rams, but some how they pulled it out in the end. Sam Bradford hit on only 45% of his passes as he was trying to stay alive from the lions pass rush which sacked him 5 times and hit him alot more. The ground game wasn't much better as Jackson ran for 63 yds on the ground, but did add a game tying touchdown late in the Game.

The biggest play of the game came after the lions shut down the rams to open the overtime. Matthew Stafford tried going to calvin Johnson who was tearing up the rams defense all game, but on the instance Finnegan decided to earn his keep and picked the pass off. A few plays later Zuerlein would kick his 3rd fg of the day to win the game.

    Bradford- 16/35 166yds 1int
    Jackson- 16 carries 63 yds 1 TD
    Stephens Howling- 1 KR Td
    Chris Long- Sack
    finnegan- 1int

The Texans started the season at home against the Dolphins. With Arian Foster out (partially torn PCL) and Brady James injured in this game (out 4 weeks with dislocated hip), things were not looking positive. In steps Ben Freaking Tate. Tate had 30 carries for 202 yards and no touchdowns! This game was all about ground and pound. After jumping ahead 21-0 on the visiting team, the Dolphins fought their way back into the game with key big plays in the receiving game and big defensive stops. Joe Flacco had a key interception that stalled the come back bid (he had 5 INTs for the game). While it appeared that the conservative play calling might doom the Texans, the defense stepped up and made the plays to end the game for good.

The Dolphins showed a lot of fight coming back from 21 down to put the game in question in the 4th quarter.

Notable stats for the home team:
Johnathan Joseph had 2 of the team's 5 interceptions.
Ben Tate had 30 carries for 202 yards
Andre Johnson had 3 rec. for 95 yards and 2 touchdowns (most of it on a 75 yard slant route that broke the 0-0 tie)
Matt Schaub was 8/14 for 194 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT

    Jaguars - 34
    Vikings - 37

Defense was optional in Minnesota as the Jags and Vikings racked up over 1000 total yards in a wild shootout to open the year. The quarterbacks combined for 906 yards and six scores, including a number of long touchdown throws. The Vikings came up with some huge defensive plays, however, forcing seven turnovers including six interceptions on Jacksonville quarterback Blaine Gabbert.

The game was another classic game against Gngsta4Lyphe, and when pressed after the game Coach Coleman said "I expect no less than to see the Jags representing the AFC in the Super Bowl this year, the team can flat out play."

    Stats

    Vikings

    Passing
    Christian Ponder - 21/44, 422 yards, 3 TD/2 INT

Two things i learned from this game, Blaine Gabbert is not Tom Brady, dont use Brady's playbook. 2nd thing, Minnesota is not the worst team in the league, and will be making the playoffs.

It was closer than you think. Its not that he destroyed me, but he had a few home run plays. This game actually came down to the wire, i had the ball on his side of the field with less than a minute left and fumbled, then he drove down and kicked a field goal. Laurent Robinson might be out of a job now.

Most of it came off a long screen pass and a checkdown where he ran straight over a Jaguar defender

Bucs Grab Opening Day win in Coach Ingram's Debut

    Carolina 7
    Tampa Bay 12

It wasn't pretty but The Bucs won a hard fought division game to open the season and are all smiles after this one. Lets start with the good. The defense played out of their minds. They kept Cam Newton to 21 yards passing and 28 yards rushing for the entire day while holding the Panthers to 7 points and 108 offensive yards. All this while missing 3 key starters for the entire game. The Tampa offense was quite effective at moving the ball, but had trouble finishing drives. They had to settle on 4 FGs instead of touchdowns. Carolina did challenge Tampa with their defense. The Tampa running game was non-existent (20 carries 28 yards) until the 4th quarter when Doug Martin finally realized what a hole was. Martin finished with 108 yards on 25 carries and pulverized the defense late in the game. V-Jax had an impressive debut and caught 7 balls for 119 yards. 2nd year WR Mike Williams had a bad day as he dropped 3 passes and was eventually benched. The Coaching staff says that Chad Johnson will most likely take his place as #2 Wideout next week against the Giants.

Tampa definitely has cause for concern , the offense really needs to learn to finish drives and the defense played well but lets see how they stack up to a potent NYG attack. For now though we are undefeated with a division win under our belt.

    STEELERS 9 @ BRONCOS 28

The game started out very lackluster with neither team reaching 300 total yards on offense. This can also be attributed to both PEYTON MANNING AND BEN ROETHLISBERGER leaving the game early with "abdominal injuries", but both will be back for week 2. The game was close with Denver up 14 to 9 when Big Ben through a pick six to Champ bailey who had a 77 yard return for a TD. Denver's final score came with 1:48 left on the clock and Denver trying to run out the clock.

Denver: Denver came out trying to run the ball and ran the ball by committee with (4) different RB touching the ball. The big story was Denver's defense who didn't allow the Pittsburgh powerhouse in the end zone and sacking ROETHLISBERGER 4 times and picking him off once for a TD. another key loss is Tracey porter out with a broken jaw for 2 weeks!!

Steelers: they had issues trying to get the running game going but were pretty consistent in the passing game until a HUGE fumble by Wallace and the pick 6 by Big Ben. Look for this team to bounce back!!!

Packers send 49er's back to San Francisco to dig for answers, Defense forces 4 turnovers and sacks Smith 8 times,
    Pack wins 35 - 19
    [IMG]
Green Bay, Wisconsin | In the season opener, Green Bay was match up with the San Francisco 49ers CrackinBacks, in what everyone was calling the game of the week. Entering the season, The Packers were #1 in the power rankings, based solely on paper and the talent they had on defense, special teams, but especially offense. Riding a 2 game win streak from pre-season, it was time to start it for real. Led by 1st year coach, Carl Turner, or better known as Coach CT, the Packers didn't disappoint the home town sell out crowd of 73,000 cheeseheads.
The day started off shaky early, as Rodgers looked rusty, and threw picks on the first two possessions. He eventually settled down, ending up tossing 4 TD's in the game with a passer rating of 106.2. Fresh off his new contract, Greg Jennings showed why management was so eager to sign him to an extension. Jennings was the leading receiver, and the recipient of 2 of Rodgers TD passes. Jordy Nelson and Jermichael Finley were held in check primarily all day, except on a couple of plays that went for big yards. It was apparent that the 49ers defense was too much for Benson, who got the nod to start over James Stark. Benson managed a measly 25 yards on the ground and was relegated to pass protection mostly. A change is needed, and one will come soon. The offensive line played outstanding, protecting Rodgers and giving up only 1 sack to the 49ers defense, who were ranked amongst the top defenses just a season ago.
The big story from this game was the Defense. A question mark entering the 2012 season. This defense, absent arguably its best best defender Clay Matthews due to an abdominal tear, play inspired ball to silence the nay sayers. BJ Raji (2), Ryan Pickett (3), and the Packs 1st round draft pick out of USC Nick Perry (3) amassed 8 sacks. They just beasted the 49ers O-line. Backed by solid play from the secondary, they were able to get some coverage sacks, and keep Alex Smith under deres all afternoon. Three different packers picked of Smith as well. The aggressiveness and hard hitting caused numerous injuries, of note, breaking Ted Ginn's collarbone and Randy Moss' ribs.
At the post game press conference, Coach CT was asked to grade his Defense, "Obviously, Anytime you force 4 turnovers and hold your opponent to under 20 points, and you have a high powered offense, you expect to win. I would say they played hard, they get an S for satisfactory. This is one game. I liked what I saw from the front seven and that we were able to hold Gore to 25 yards on the ground, but our secondary gave up 315 yards in the air. We have to do better if we expect to win in a passing league, which we all know that is what the National Football League has become. Game ball goes to the guys on the line of scrimmage, offense and defense."
Up next for Green Bay, a Thursday Night showdown at home against division rivals Chicago Bears Jamie..The Bears are another team that's stacked with talent on both sides. Cutler has reunited with his favorite target from his Bronco days, Brandon Marshall, who will surely test the Packers secondary. If that dynamic duo wasn't enough, ESPN NFL Correspondent Chris "Mort" Mortenson has tweeted that the Bears front office has extended Matt Forte's contract by 5 years, showing him the MONEY. He will be riding high and looking to prove his worth. Oh, and Devin Hester is still electricity in a bottle and can take it to the house at any given time. The O-Line will have to deal with Julius Peppers, premiere pass rusher, and Brian Urchaler stalking the middle. This will truly be a statement game for Coach CT and the Packers, alot of questions will be answered.

QB Andrew Luck's rookie debut is a success
    Week1ColtsBears.JPG
Luck comes in and wins his first game as a rookie thanks to some key plays on the defense. This game was a defensive struggle on both sides as both offenses were held under 300 yards.
The Colts received first and had to punt after Wayne uncharacteristically dropped a 3rd down pass. The Bears worked Forte down the field, but had to settle for a fg to go up 3-0. Luck then had an NFL wake up call with a sack followed by an interception on the 2nd drive. However, newly acquired Vontae Davis read Cutler's eyes and snagged his first int of the year. He then was able to break 2 would be tackles and outrace the O-linemen down the sideline for a pick 6. After a Colts defensive stand, HB Brown takes it between the RG and RT for a 71 yard TD to make it a 14-3 lead. The Bears would not relent and followed that immediately with a quick slant to Hester who used his game breaking speed to turn it into a 76 yard TD pass. The gap closes 14-10. On the Colts following drive, HB Brown is lit up and fumbles the ball which the Bears recover. The Bears settle for a FG to make it 14-13. The Colts drive down right before half but get stuck on 4th and short in the red zone. Vinateri kicks the field goal as time expires and we go into the half at 17-13.
The Bears come out of the break hot. Forte rumbles over the Colts defense after his rest, and Cutlet eventually connects with him on a pass to the flats for a TD to re-take the lead 20-17. The Colts continue to struggle and are unable to muster much 3rd quarter offense. Things look worse after a punt as Forte gets rolling again. However, on a 10 yard carry to the sideline, SS Zbikowski lights up Forte with a crushing hit and caused a fumble. Angerer picks it up and somehow outruns the offense for the D's second TD of the game to go up 24-20. The Bears continue to struggle on offense and are forced to punt. On the ensuing drive, Luck finds the savvy vet Wayne up the sideline for a 56 yard PA pass TD to give us a comfortable 31-20 lead and final score. After another Bears punt, the Colts are able to secure a few first downs and wind out the clock.
Good game Jamie , he played very sim and just had a few bad breaks with the turnovers for TDs.
    Stats
    Luck - 10/16 192 yrds 1 TD 2 int
    Cutler - 10/17 166 yrds 2 TD 1 int

Ravens triumph over division foe Bengals 13-0
    [IMG]
The Ravens hosted the Cinci Bengals in the opening week of GMFL, and after a slow start were able to squeeze the game out. Coach Jowers was surprised to see running back Maurice Jones-Drew on the Benagls as they broke the huddle and he quickly ripped off a 29 yard run up the right sidelines. Ray Lewis rallied the troops after the big run and the Ravens settled in to their usual aggressive D.
While Dalton struggled to complete passes going 9 for 28 with 3 INTS, Ryan Tannehill whos under great pressure to prove why Flacco was expendable. Ryan finished with a QBR of 95.8 completing 12 on 18 passes. After the game Ryan was bombarded on questions about Brian Billick's comments. Ryan showed great maturity and poise stating Brian is a intelligent guy, WAS a great coach. Ryan pulled out the Miami Hearld and chuckled as he pointed out Flacco's 5 INTs. "That's why I'm here" said Ryan.
Fans were grumbling as this one was a slow defensive slobber knocker. Ray Rice was shut down until mid 3rd QTR then the constant plugging away at the Bengals D finally worked. Bengals missed on a few big play opportunities on both offense (dropped balls) and defense (missed tackles) that pretty much sealed the deal. The Ravens will play the Bengals in the rematch later this season in Cincinnati.
    R. Tannehill - 95.8 QBR / 165 Yards / 0-0 TD-INT/ 66%
    A. Dalton - 10.2 QBR / 141 Yards / 0-3 TD-INT / 32%
    R. Rice - 26 Att / 122 Yards / 1 TD / 25 Long
    M. Jones-Drew - 10 Att / 39 Yards / 29 Long

    gmfl week 1.jpg

The Cleveland Browns opened up the GMFL 2012 season at home against the Philadelphia Eagles. It was a rainy sloppy mess of a game from start to finish. Im not sure if it was because of the weather or if that was just the Browns we all know and love. The Eagles seemed to have played down to the Browns level and it cost them.

The Eagles started the game with a long drive, but it stalled out and only put up 3 points. The Browns answered back with a drive of their own, but in typical Browns fashion ended with zero points on the board.

The next possession for the Eagles set the tone for the rest of the game, a sloppy drive that ended in a punt and a bad punt at that. Phil Dawson put 3 on the board because of that and we were tied.

A few Eagles turnovers in their own end and the Browns had a 13 to 3 lead.

Trent Richardson went over 100 yards in his debut and scored a few TD's as well.

Weeden left many of the Browns faithful scratching their heads as he had a bad game. Speaking of bad games, Browns wideout Mitchell dropped what seemed to be 10 passes in this one. Hopefully this is not an issue long term, but mean while if it is, Burress is waiting to debut next week.

The Eagles put together a solid drive or two at the end of the game, put up a late TD and got an onside kick. That possession ended in an incomplete pass on 4th down and the Browns then sealed the deal with a first down and let the clock run out.

The Browns are off to a great start, lets hope they can keep it up the rest of the season.

    Week 1 - Seahawks 26 - 20 Cardinals (CPU)

Seattle kicks off the 2012 campaign with a road win versus division foe Arizona. Rookie Russell Wilson got the start at QB over offseason free agent signing Matt Flynn. However, Russell was just managing the game as the Seahawks stuck their strengths and ran the ball 44 times for 191 yards all while winning the possession war nearly 2 to 1. Russell did contribute 180 yards through the air and a TD to WR Braylon Edwards.

Aside from some matchup problems with Larry Fitzgerald, the Seattle defensive hung tough and bottled up the Arizona running game. Seattle will be further tested next week vs NFC opponent, Dallas.

Chiefs Win Mistake Filled Game With Last Second FG
    Atlanta ( GMONEY 15 )- 13
    at
    Kansas City ( dj illmatic 23 )- 16
In a game that looked more like the first pre-season game of the year instead of the first regular season game of the year, the Chiefs came up with a big interception late to set up a last second FG to defeat the Atlanta Falcons 16-13. The Falcons opened up the scoring with a FG in the first quarter. The Chiefs answered back with a FG of their own to tie the game. Atlanta HB Micheal Turner scored a TD to make it 10-3. Turner is the only offensive player for either team that had a game he could be proud of. Turner finished with over 100 yards rushing and the one TD. Kansas City added a FG in the third quarter to pull to within four. The Falcons had a chance to extend their lead, but missed an easy FG.
The game became a back and forth battle in the fourth. Chiefs QB Matt Cassel hit WR Dexter McCluster with a 19 yard TD to give KC their first lead of the game 13-10. The Chiefs then came up with an interception deep in Falcons territory, but missed an easy FG wide right. The Falcons took advantage of the opening by tying the game up with a FG. The Chiefs could not put together a game winning drive, and were forced to punt with a little over a minute to go. Falcons QB Matt Ryan would make his third, and most costly, mistake of the night when LB Justin Houston picked off a pass intended for TE Tony Gonzalez. Houston returned it deep into Atlanta territory to set up the game winning FG with 1 second left. The win moves the Chiefs to 1-0 on the season. They take on the Buffalo Bills next week. Meanwhile, the 0-1 Falcons take on Peyton Manninng and Denver next week.

Note: This entire game suffered from horrible lag. I think I speak for both myself and G when I say it was almost impossible to do anything. The missed FG's were due to the lag. There were also several big play chances on both sides that were ruined by lag. It was a good game, but the lag defenitely ruined the experience.
