Hokies snap Boise's 56 game home winning streak with a 58-7 win!

Boise St. came out for their home opener obviously hyped up by their crowd and it showed. They marched down the field fairly easy by using a good mixture of runs and passes. Then Kellen Moore made the mistake that ultimately took the offense off its rhythm for good. He tried forcing in a quick slant on a 3rd and short and was picked off. Virginia Tech opened up their first drive very similarly to Boise's. It was a methodical 14 play drive that was capped off by a 6yd TD pass to Boykin. On Tech's third drive both Tyrod Taylor and Ryan Williams received injuries that sidelined them for the rest of the game. With Taylor out Tech focused solely on winning the battle in the trenches. With a stout aggressive defense and the power running game in full force Boise proved to be no match for Virginia Tech.

    Stat Leaders

    Virginia Tech

    Taylor - 8/10 - 78yds - 2TD
    Evans - 13car - 190yds - 2TD
    Boykins - 5rec - 61yds - 2TD

    Boise State

    Moore - 6/20 - 137yds - 1TD 2INT
    Avery - 13car - 57yds
    Burroughs - 1rec - 81yds - 1TD

No Tebow, no problem as the Gators dominate Miami (Ohio) 62-14 in the season opener.

Jeff Demps was a factor both receiving and catching as he ran for 122 yds with 2 TD's and caught for 124 with 2 TD's. Demps had two long screen plays that went for touchdowns to give the Gators a lot of confidence. The defense was a little shaky int the second quarter giving up all of the 14 points but seemed fine the rest of the game. John Brantley looks just fine in the footsteps of Tim Tebow as he threw for 388 yds and 5 TD's. Overall a solid start from the Gators.

    Kansas grounds Air Force

After starting running back Angus Quigley went down with a Strained Back (out 5-7 weeks) backups Toben Opurum and Rell Lewis destroyed the Falcons defense. Opurum ran for 172 yards, while Lewis came in for him midway through the 3rd quarter to run for 102 yards. New starting quartingback Kale Pick did a good job in replacing record breaking leader Todd Reesing. Pick threw for 200+ yards with a touchdown, but didn't go unscathed, getting an interception late in the 1st quarter. The Air Force option system just couldn't get going with the Kansas D-line stopping them quickly. Defensive End Jake Laptad went down with a pulled calf for the game, but will return next week.

Kansas looked good all game, but knows it was just the first game. Now they must go from one option team to another, playing Georgia Tech next week. Every player must be on top of their game for them to come close to beating the Yellow Jackets.

    Maryland whups Navy

Navy's option running attack was no match for Maryland's ground game and their 2 headed monster of Da'rel Scott and Dave Meggett on this day. Each had 3 TDs and over 100 yards as Maryland stomped Navy 54-7. Even JaMarr Robinson got in on the act rushing for 59 yards on 4 carries from a few option runs. In the air, Robinson was also effective going 16-21 for 195 yards although he did have an INT in the redzone. Maryland hosts #9 Nebraska next (in about 5 minutes).

31-7, GT struggled big time the 1st & 2ND quarters Nesbet had 2 fumbles an 4 sacks. But pulled it together in 3rd & 4th to pull away from a scrappy ASU team.

Week 1 - LSU beats UNC 34-10. The UNC defense is pretty stout, but I hit possibly the 3 nicest offensive plays I've had in NCAA 2010 to blow the game open.

    - A pass thrown to WR T. Tolliver, who used all 6'5" to jump up and over the safety for the catch, and then a run for a TD. First user catch like that I've had in this years game.

    - A sweet deep sideline pass to WR Randle. Thrown just over the head of the corner, hitting the WR in stride.

    - A motion option handoff to the HB, who went off tackle (play was really well blocked by the line and TE), and then a nice juke of the safety for an 80 yard TD.

    Up next is Vandy.

Florida takes care of USF 55-17.

John Brantley had another monster passing day going 16-22 455 yds and 4 TD tosses. USF was scrappy in the second quarter with there intense pass rush causing Brantley to have his only INT but the next drive was another short screen to Demps who broke loose for a 72 yd touchdown, and the rest was in the bag for Florida.

    Week 1
    Tennessee 30
    TCU 0

The Vols walked into TCU's backyard and ripped the Horned Frogs hearts out. The Volunteer defense was everywhere. Nothing got past them, and the offense was no slouch either. This one was over from the start.

    Week 2
    Tennessee 31
    Oregon 10

This week the Volunteers defended Neyland stadium with a little extra honor. Oku didnt have the flashiest of numbers this week(33ATT 93yd 1TD) Average, but not spectacular. Coach Max thought last week's average performance was due to the scheme of TCU, and that if Oku got more carries he'd be able to rack up big yards... but perhaps the problem runs deeper than previously thought. Nonetheless Tennessee has knocked off #8 and #4 in succession, and things are looking bright in Volunteer land. Next week the Volunteers clash with the Gators in Rocky Top. This early season divisional matchup is key for both teams. Starting off SEC play (1-0) is extra crucial for Tenn who's next SEC game after UF is @LSU (at night).

    # VaTech @ #3 Texas
--The Hokies came into Austin running early and often building a 28-24 halftime lead behind the legs of Evans and Williams. The Longhorns made some crucial halftime adjustments to slow down the run game and All American corner Aaron Williams made two interceptions in the second half to seal the deal.

--The Horns offense was nearly unstoppable running for 118 yards while passing for 391. Sophmore phenom quarterback Gilbert got the game ball going 118 of 29 for 391 yards, 4 touchdowns and 1 interception.

    #1 Texas 40 @ Texas Tech 3
--Again the Texas offense was lights out as quarterback Gilbert was on fire make quick reads and finding the right receivers. Our running game got an added jolt from redshirt freshman Cris Whaley who had over 100 yards and 2 touchdowns. Gilbert threw for 250 and 2 scores while receiver Williams had another 100 yard day and a touchdown.

--The story of the game though was the defense who knocked out the Tech starting quarterback Potts early and never looked back. The backup was rattled early and missed many open receivers or just gave up a few times and ran into the back of his line and waited to get sacked.

    #24 Kansas 38 @ Southern Miss 10

The first half of this game had it's ups and downs with score at 14-10 Kansas at halftime. USM missed three field goals in the first half. First play from scrimmage saw this game explode in favor of KU. RB Toben Opurum ran a 75 yard TD to the house. He finished with 168 yards on 18 attempts after bowing out midway through the 3rd quarter. QB Kale Pick was 7-12 with 137yds and a touchdown. He also had a 75 yd TD run on a broken option.
