1. 14-0 The Good: All they do is win. This is pretty self-explanatory. They are on pace to be the best TCBL team in league history. Bryce Harper has the rookie of the year locked up. Gio Gonzalez looks like an ace. The Bad: Trading the whole team before even losing a game. Very, very questionable. But as long as they keep winning, who cares..right? The Ugly: Sean Burnett and his 15.00 ERA. Bullpen will have to improve if they want to stay undefeated and complete the miracle season. 2. 10-3 The Good: Carmona has been masterful, easily the best 5th starter in baseball right now. Michael Brantley has been a pleasant surprise for Indians fans, leading the team in hits and batting average. This is a very good team. The Bad: Asdrubal Cabrera is struggling. The Indians will need him to get his bat going if they want to finish strong. He is capable of much more than .119 with 4 rbi. The Ugly: Me picking Tomlin to be the ace of this staff at the beginning of the year. Masteron, Jimenez, Carmona and even Derek Lowe have all outperformed him. Fifteen hits in ten innings...yikes. 3. 13-4 The Good: The top of the lineup has been on fire. Starlin Castro has even hit himself into the MVP conversation, batting over .400 and stealing 5 bases. The top of the rotation has been sick, with Garza, Dempster and Maholm combining to be 9-0 with an ERA under 2. The Bad: The bullpen has no real identity. They won't be getting this kind of starting pitching all season. How will this pen respond when they will have to hold leads late or keep opposing offenses at bay? Kerry Wood and Carlos Marmol can't do it all themselves. Who is the go-to lefty on this team? I don't see one. The Ugly: Jeff Samardzija has struggled. In 17 innings he has given up 16 hits, 3 walks and 2 homeruns and is 1-1 with an ERA sitting right around 5. He needs to be better if these Cubs want to be anything but pretenders. 4. 10-6 The Good: TCBL imitates real life, as Matt Kemp is on a rampage. His line looks like this: .328 5 HR 18 RBI. Very good numbers from a guy who might be the face of baseball these days. Where the fuck did Jerry Hairston Jr. come from? I thought he retired 5 years ago. Turns out he is batting .391 for LA this season...ROIDS? This is a very potent offense. The Bad: The pitching hasn't been on par with the bats. Kershaw is struggling compared to last year, Capuano has been bad and Ted Lilly has been less than stunning. These guys have the talent to turn it around, especially Kershaw, but it needs to start now. The Diamondbacks are not going anywhere, its time for the Dodgers to turn it up one more notch and win the division. The Ugly: Bullpen has arguably been worse than the starting rotation. Guys like Todd Coffey, Scott Elbert and Nathan Eovaldi need to stop giving up runs. 5. 7-2 The Good: Henderson Alvarez and Jesse Litsch have been magnificent. If those two can produce every start this team gets scary good, as Ricky Romero and Brandon Morrow will only get better as this season goes on. Three bagger Brett Lawrie has looked every bit the top prospect he is projected to be. The Bad: JP Arrencibia and Yunel Escobar have both been trash. They need to get some more hits. Their batting averages shouldn't be that close to .200. The Ugly: Sergio Santos. Anytime your closer has an ERA anywhere near 5, things are not going to end well. He needs to hunker down and close games without the drama. 6. 7-3 The Good: This team, right along with the Cubs, are the two most pleasant surprises in baseball right now. Jake Arrieta is finally showing why he was such a big time prospect. He currently sits at 2-0 and has yet to give up an earned run in 15 innings. Impressive. JJ Hardy might be the best shortstop in baseball right now, batting .447 with 17 hits, 1 homerun and 9 rbis in only 38 at-bats. The Bad: Zach Britton has been a big disappointment. He has the stuff to be an ace, just hasn't yet put it together. After two starts he has surrendered 17 hits in 11 innings, that is way too much. The Ugly: Much like many other teams in the league right now, the bullpen has been hot garbage. Chen, Gregg, O'Day, Patton and Lindstrom all have an ERA over 7. That is really, really bad. 7. 7-4 The Good: Roy Oswalt was a big pickup, and if his first start with Detroit is any indication, he is going to make a big difference for the Tigers this year. Justin Verlander is a bad, bad man. Scherzer has looked good, too. Rotation is looking very formidable. Miggy is doing his thang as well. The Bad: Prince Fielder and Delmon Young. Combined they are batting somewhere near .230 with only 1 homerun and 7 rbi. That is extremely disappointing for guys batting behind Miguel Cabrera. The Ugly: Austin Jackson. He is batting .208 as a leadoff man. Not good, the Tigers can't just depend on Cabrera and their starting pitching to win this division alone. Jackson needs to set the table better.
