I managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory yet again this week.

    Arizona 34 - Colorado 31

They got out to a 17-3 lead in the 1st quarter. We came back to take a 24-17 lead mid 3rd quarter. They scored at the end of the 3rd to tie it up at 24. This is where things got funny.

They went up 27 - 24 in the 4th and forced us into a 3 and out with about 3 minutes left. They converted a few 1st downs and forced us to burn all of our timeouts. We used the last one after a sack to make it 3rd and 15. At this point there was about 45 seconds left. They inexplicably tried to pass even though we were out of timeouts. We forced a fumble on a sack! One of my D Linemen hurdled two dudes, scooped and scored with 40 seconds left to take the 31-27 lead! Fucking miracle right?!?!?!?!

Arizona though predictably went down the field on their final drive, scoring the winning TD with 2 seconds left to effectively win the game. My last chance was a kick return, but that didn't happen and we again....somehow someway, found a way to fuck up yet another game when we had a 4th quarter lead. By my calculations we should be 8-2. Instead we are 4-6 and need to win out just to make a bowl game.

    Ouch.

Auburn Wins 30-10 vs Georgia Behind QB Change

Freshman Quarterback Kiehl Frazier got his first start Saturday, and his first win. The 6'3 frosh struggled at times passing, and at other times looked like he was fitting right in. Coach Chizik said they weren't trying to make him think he had to do much, just go out and play.

"We ran a lot of simple routes with [tight end] Phil [Lutzenkirchen] and let him run some options. He played in a read option style offense in high school, so we ran those plays to keep him comfortable out there. The kid did a good job today."

Frazier spread the ball around well to the Tiger receivers, hitting 6 different receivers and 5 different more then once. Senior wide out Quindarius Carr led all receivers with 43 yards on 4 receptions. Lutzenkirchen snagged the only TD pass by Frazier.

As usual however, sophomore Michael Dyer led the offensive effort with 102 yards on 26 attempts while adding a TD. Frazier added a score on the ground on an option, though his yardage total is skewed due to sacks. Junior Onterio McCalebb was able to gash a tired Georgia defense whenever he spelled Dyer, racking up 50 yards on just 7 attempts. With the new pistol style offense installed for Frazier, McCalebb could see an increase in carries as Auburn will use a lot more running plays to move the ball.

Defensively, Auburn put together a great effort against Pre-Season All SEC QB Aaron Murray. Murray was limited to 189 yards on 14-34 passing while tossing a touchdown a two interceptions. The Tigers were able to hold UGA to 215 total yards of offense, while forcing them to go 2-11 on 3rd downs; possibly the tell all stat of the game.

Overall it was a great coming out party for Kiehl Frazier, which was the storyline coming into the game. The Freshman will likely lead UA through the rest of the season, and if they finish strong look for him to be the Auburn front man for a while.

    Quotes
"Safe to say he looked good out there right? We needed a change at quarterback, and the two older guys have had their chances."
    Coach Chizik

"I just wanted to go out and play hard and execute the offense."
    Kiehl Frazier

    Offensive Leaders
QB Kiehl Frazier - 14-25, 152 yds, TD, INT, Rush TD
HB Michael Dyer - 26 att, 102 yds, TD
HB Onterio McCalebb - 7 att, 50 yds
TE Philip Lutzenkirchen - 2 rec, 30 yds, TD

    Defensive Leaders
DT Jeffrey Whitaker - 2 tkls, 2 TFL, 2 Sacks
LB Eltoro Freeman - 3 tkls, TFL, Sack

It seemed like it was going to stay close after the first half with the Tide only leading 21-10. The Bulldogs then came straight out of halftime, and marched all the way down the field for a FG cutting the lead to 21-13. It was all Alabama from that point on. Mississippi State QB Chris Relf threw 4 INT's, two of which on consecutive passes.

Next week's tune up game should have us nice and rested to avenge last year's heartbreaking loss to Auburn in the Iron Bowl.

WR TJ Simpson has career day against Cougs

CB Omar Bolden was all over the place against WSU, with 3 tackles and 3 passes defended

The Sun Devils rebounded rather well after a shocking loss to unranked UCLA last weekend with a 41-17 thrashing of the lowly Washington State Cougars, who fall to 2-8 on the year. QB Brock Osweiler didn't throw any INTs this week, and went 14/25 for 255 yards and a TD, which went to WR TJ Simpson. Simpson had his best game yet as a Sun Devil, with 6 receptions for 180 yards and a receiving TD, as well as a 10 yard TD rush. The defense once again was led by Burfict, who had 5 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble.

ASU got out of the gates well ahead of the Cougars, leading 17-0 after the 1st quarter with 2 rushing TDs and a FG. However, Washington State woke up in the 2nd quarter, with a long TD drive to get their first TD, and a long 72 yard pass a few minutes later for another touchdown made it 17-14. Instead of letting WSU keep the momentum heading into half, the Sun Devils managed to score 10 points in the final 2 minutes, and another TD on the first drive of the 3rd quarter essentially put the game out of reach for the Cougars. The real icing of the game happened early in the 4th when SS Clint Floyd returned an INT 86 yards for a TD, the 2nd 80+ interception return of the season for ASU.

Next week, Arizona State hosts U of A in the oldest rivalry in college football, the Territorial Cup. The winner will essentially seal up the South division and get to go to the first Pac-12 title game.
