41 vs. 10 Air Force blows past Nevada, advance to 3-2 (3-1) on the year The Air Force Falcons got started early and never looked back as they traveled to Reno, NV and smacked around the Wolfpack on the ground. The Falcons as a team rushed 52 times for 326 yards and a 6.3 average. The rushing game scored three touchdowns, with two of them coming from RB Bryan Driskkell who came up big after RB Jon Lee went out early in the game with a sprained wrist and will miss two weeks. The Falcons were also perfect through the air, going 11 for 11 and 143 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Falcons utilized each of their three quarterbacks who are not redshirted due to starting QB Kale Pearson going down early in the 1st quarter with a concussion. RS FR QB Jaleel Awini would replace Pearson until he went down with turf toe in the 3rd quarter. SO QB Dano Graves would stay healthy and just milk the clock until the clock hit 0:00. Adding another injury from this game, RB Broam Hart went down in the 2nd quarter with broken ribs and is now out for four weeks.
Damn! Down 27-7, I almost pulled off a mega comeback - but just couldn't get it done!
Great game Priest.
Key stat of the game:
TOLEDO 55 BALL STATE 41 The Rockets traveled to Ball State in week 5 action and were able to escape with a 55-41 win in what can only be described as an offensive exlposion. The two teams combined for over 1000 yds total offense. The Rockets came in and played about as well as they could right out of the gate offensively to build a lead against the home team. Rockets Sr QB Terrance Owens went 16 of 23 for 374yds with 3 td and 0 ints. SR RB David Fluellen did his part carrying 18 times for 140yds with 3 tds. Most importantly the offense protected the football winning the turnover battle 0-4. The Rockets were never able to really let up however as Ball State continued to score against what seemed to be a very unmotivated Rockets defense. The defensive woes seem to continue for Toledo. The lone bright spot defensively for Toledo was JR. CB Cheatham Norrils who collected 3 ints. The win moves the Rockets to 3-2 as they prepare to now host Western Michigan in week 6.
San Jose State Survive Scare from Utah State for 37-36 Win Behind Two KO returns from Hightower
This matchup between undefeated SJSU and winless Utah state looked to be a mistmatch, well that is why they play the games. Utah State took advantage of five turnovers this game with three INTs from Fales and two fumbles. With the turnovers, Utah state took a fast 17-0 lead in the 1st quarter after a FG to start the game and a turnover resulting in great filed positiong and manning taking an option run to give utah state a 10-0 lead. In that ensuing kickoff, Hightower fumbled the return giving Utah another opportunity in the redzone, it looked like it was going tob e a long day as he also fumbled a punt returned, but recovered. RB hill who had some success against the SJSU tough defense was able to punch it in from 9 yards out with the 17-0 lead in the 1st.
The turnovers didn't stop there as Fales threw two more INTs setting up Utah for great scoring opportunities later in the quarter. SJSU got on the board first with a Fales pas to Ena 8 yards out go get SJSU within 10 points. The SJSU defense had opportunities as they were able to stop Utah State to force punts, but the Ints by Fales hurt any opportunity for a comeback. On a 3rd and long, Manning hit Natson for a 77 yard TD to get utah state back up by 17 in the 2nd. After exchanging FGs, the score was 27-10 right before the half and with 20 seconds left. Then Hightower struck and took the kickoff 99 yards for a TD get SJSU within 10 at the half, poor coverage by Utah State resulted in a commanding lead going into the half.
It didn't stop there as SJSU was to receive the ensuing kickoff and Hightower again ran it back for his 2nd 99 yard TD return on back to back kickoffs to get SJSU within 3 to start the the 3rd. Both defenses played well in the 3rd quarter with SJSU was able to only hold Utah state to a FG that quarter, but wasn't able to take advantage after a Gary fumble in Utah State terriroty. Going into the 4th, the score was now 30-24 utah state.
For most of the 4th, SJSU had trouble on offense as they have had all game. Star running back Ervin is now out 7 weeks and Jelks who took over was struggling to get yards. With Fales struggling in the game, SJSU wasn't able to take advantage on offense after getting some stops in the 4th quarter. Then finally, the SJSU offense was able to drive the field getting into the 5 yard dline. On a 4th and inches at the 2 yard dline, SJSU was able to convert on a 1 yard gain followed up by a Jelks 1 yard TD run giving SJSU the first lead of the game 31-30. With all three timeouts left and about 1:30 left in the game and only down one, Utah state had a prime opportunity to drive the field and get within fg range for the win, but Manning was able to hit Bird on a slant and running away from the SJSU defenders, SJSU defender just gave up on the play on the hopes of getting the ball back. With the 67 yard TD pass, Utah State had to go for two to get the lead to 7, but failed so SJSU had and opportunity to win the game on a TD.
On the final drive Fale out of the shotgun was able to get the Spartans in Utah State territory and finally able to hit Carr on a slant for a 30 yard to give SJSU the lead for good and the 37-36 win.
With the offense struggling early and the turnovers, the defense was able to hold Utah State to just FGs in key points in the game where things could of blown open and the two hightower kickoff returns gave the Spartans the opportunity to win this game in the end. SJSU now goes to 4-0.

Ohio Squeaks By San Diego State in a Thriller 31-28
The fireworks started early in this one as both offenses came out seemingly unstoppable. San Diego State's passing game was deadly efficient, totaling 394 yards and 2 touchdowns on just 33 attempts. Although San Diego State led in 3rd down conversion percentage, passing yards, total offense, first downs, and time of possession, turnovers turned out to be the deciding factor. San Diego State threw two key interceptions, one in the red zone, to give the game away to a defense that was incapable of earning a stop on it's own.
The lone bright spot in the game for Ohio was the rushing attack which totaled 279 yards on 29 attempts; nearly ten yards per carry. Halfback Beau Blankenship had a breakout performance with 185 yards on 15 attempts. Although star received Foster was injured for the game, his presence might not have made an impact anyways. San Diego State's defense seemed well prepared for wr's to take pitches on the option, and held them to just 38 yards on 7 pitches. It was almost as if Coach Gemmabelli had thoroughly briefed the opposing defense on his strategy the week before the game. .
It was a great game by all, and although Ohio came out the victor, one can't help but feel San Diego State beat itself with turnovers.
