    Season 2 LSU Tigers

    LSU Adds 2 More

Ties Texas for #3 in the current class rankings

Baton Rouge - LSU added 2 more names to its upcoming recruiting class after Saturday’s win over Vanderbilt. Isaiah Fowler, the #10 corner in the country, chose the Bayou Bengals over the Texas Tech Red Raiders. He was joined later in the evening by Lance Williams, the #8 OLB in the country. The prospects met on their official visit to Baton Rouge last week, a 38-24 Tiger win over Mississippi State. Coach Bulgy, who got his 1st win for LSU the same Saturday, said he saw film of these players and decided to keep their visits scheduled. “I really liked what these two guys brought to the table, with their long athletic frames, and decided to welcome them in as my first two official visitors.†Both of the newly committed players stretch over 6 feet with Lance Williams coming in at 6-5.

Coach Bulgy said he likes the size on pass rushers mainly because they can swat more balls at the line of scrimmage. Coach Bulgy hopes to move to a 3-4 defense next season, so Lance Williams has the ability to see immediate playing time. With (RS) Sr. Kelvin Sheppard graduating, Barkevious Mingo Fr. (RS), and Ryan Baker, a Jr., will be the new leaders of a very young but talented LSU LB corp.

Apparently Coach Bulgy likes his corner’s to come with some size too. Isaiah Fowler, a 6-2 hard hitting corner out of North Richland Hills, TX beat Williams to the punch to become LSU’s first commit since the surprise hiring of Coach Bulgy. The player’s met on their official visits to Baton Rouge last weekend, and Fowler said, “We actually talked about committing together last weekend, but the coaches told us not too.†Coach Bulgy laughed when hearing this and said, “We told them we would love to take their commitment right there, but we felt it would be best for them to sleep on it for a week, and see us take the field against someone else and see if they thought the still fit.†Bulgy went on to say that they were only running a few plays defensively to allow the staff to get a better feel for the talent on the roster against Mississippi St. He said it would be impossible for us to get in any blitzes or complicated aspects of our defense because of the prep time, “we asked them to watch the schemes and see if they liked what they saw.†Apparently both players liked what they saw.

The Tiger's are currently sitting 3rd in the recruiting rankings. They are tied with Texas, behind West Virginia. Texas and LSU both have 3 4 star commits. LSU has solid verbal comittments from Fowler, Williams, and the #4 running back in the country Jermaine Scott from Jackson Wyoming.

    LSU adds a new commit
LSU adds their first 5 star commit of the season

Baton Rouge -New head football coach Bulgy secured his first 5 star commit of the season on Friday morning, when Joe Williams the #3 ranked OLB in the class chose to play at LSU. Williams is a 5-11 212 pound player from West Little River Florida. He is a very athletic player who will have to get some experience before he can use the athleticism well. He comes in with B grades in speed and tackle. And he adds B- grades in block shedding, pursuit and hit power.

Coach Bulgy said he called the high school senior on Friday morning to wish him luck in his late season district game on Friday night. “Before I had hello out of my mouth he was telling me about a dream he had.†Williams said he dreamed he was playing at Death Valley in a Tiger uniform against Georgia. “When I saw myself in that uniform and on that field I knew that’s where I wanted to be.â€ÂÂ

Coach Bulgy was happy to add the 5 star player to his list of verbal commits, and says he may compete for playing time next season. “We are changing to a different defensive look, and there will be tons of linebackers who will play. We hope he can be one of those players next fall.â€ÂÂ

    LSU Adds 2 Soft Commits
2 In-State standouts choose the Tigers

Baton Rouge -LSU also added soft commits from 2 players last week. Both players are Louisiana products. 5 star guard and Violet, LA standout, Lionel Lee pledged to Coach Bulgy. He was joined by Cedric Johnson a 4 star DE from Metarie, LA.

Lionel Lee is a 6-5 261 pound guard prospect who has an excellent pass blocking base, and who should be able to improve as a run blocker. He has the run blocking strength to become a solid run blocker for the Tigers. In a strange twist the #3 guard in the country doesn’t have any other scholarship offers, but the Tigers are joined in his top 3 by Oklahoma, and Tennessee. Lee visited Baton Rouge for the Tigers win over the Bulldogs of Mississippi State.

Cedric Johnson is a 6-4 191 pound DE prospect. He may lack the size, but he certainly makes up for it with his B- speed. He is also a solid tackler and someone you can count on to wrap up and make the quarterback pay once he gets there. He has offers from the Tigers as well as Texas and Florida State. Johnson is scheduled to take official visits to Austin to see the Texas Longhorns take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys, to Tallahassee to see the Seminoles take on the Florida Gators, and also to Baton Rouge to see the Bayou Bengals play the Crimson Tide.

Coach Bulgy said he was excited to potentially add the players to his recruiting class. “It should make it a little easier to get their signatures on that letter of intent. They both said they want to take some official visits before committing, so we will allow them to do that.â€ÂÂ

    LSU gains 2 more commits

    Soft commits change their minds

Baton Rouge -Two players that soft committed to Coach Bulgy last week have decided they know LSU is where they want to play their college ball. Lionel Lee, and Cedric Johnson both chose the Tigers last week.

Cedric Johnson a 4 star DE from Martinville, LA chose the Tigers offer over offers from the defending National Champion Texas Longhorns, and the Florida State Seminoles. Johnson says he chose the Tigers due to conference prestige and also the athletic facilities. The Tiger’s have some of the nicest digs in college football with Death Valley and an amazing football complex. Johnson will need work on his strength and awareness before he sees significant time on the field. He looks like he might be able to contribute his second or third year on campus.

Lionel Lee also chose the Tiger’s. His final top 5 included a who’s who of college football with LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Alabama and Texas. None of the other programs ever extended an offer or showed much interest which is why the in-state product will play his ball for the Tigers. One of his chief concerns is early playing time which is something the Tiger’s can’t offer him. He chose the Tiger’s anyway because he knows the Tiger’s will compete year in and year out for the SEC and MNC games. He also wanted to play for a coach who is well respected. Lee will need some work on his run blocking to get on the field. He does have solid strength which will help him in his transition.

Coach Bulgy is getting his team ready to face a tough test from the Auburn Tigers this week, but said, “I really like the fact that we could get these guys names on the dotted line. Johnson is a tall DE who can help out our pass defense by getting his hands in the QB’s face. And Lee will really pay some dividends when we get some meat on that long frame of his.†Lee is a 6-5 261 pound guard and Johnson is a 6-4 DE.

LSU only has 3 more openings in this class. The last 3 offers have been extended to several top notch players. #1 MLB recruit John Daniel from Springdale, AR is scheduled to visit in week 12, LSU is currently 3rd in his top 3. The other 2 teams in Daniel’s top 3 Oklahoma and Tennessee hosted the player in weeks 2 and 3 respectively. Jermaine Rust is a 4 star SS recruit from Pearl, MS. He is also being recruited by Virginia Tech and USC though neither has offered the young player. Virginia Tech does have him scheduled to visit in week 12, 2 weeks before he visits the Tigers in week 14. The final offer out for this class is to #3 punter and 4 star recruit Jared Taylor from Long Beach, MS. LSU is leading Ole Miss and USC for his services.

    LSU Secures Commitment
    #3 Punter Chooses Tigers

Baton Rouge -Jared Taylor the #3 punter in this year's recruiting class has chosen to play his college football in Baton Rouge. He is the 7th ranked player in Mississippi. Coach Bulgy said he knew he needed to fill the slot and was glad to get a player so talented. "Some teams don't like to fill scholarships with kickers and punters but we did today, because we don't have a lot of holes for the next few seasons and he can really help out our defense by pinning back the opposing offenses. In the SEC field position is very important and he can help us win that battle."

Taylor chose the Tigers over in-state Ole Miss, and USC. He comes in with B- Kicking power and C+ accuracy.

The Tigers sit 2nd in the latest class rankings, but figure to drop soon. They only have 2 spots left on the roster. Coach Bulgy has offered John Daniel and Jermaine Rust. The Tigers sit 3rd in Daniel's top 3, but secured a soft commit from Rust this past week.
