Season two of the THL playoffs is winding down, but there is still a whole lot to be determined.

Los Angeles - Clinched top seed, guaranteeing throughout the playoffs
Minnesota - Clinched home ice in the first round.
    Pittsburgh - Clinched playoff spot
New York - Clinched playoff spot
    Boston - Clinched playoff spot
    Nashville - Clinched playoff spot
Chicago - Clinched 7th seed. Will play the two seed in the first round

Everything from two through 6 is up in the air. A lot of ways that it could play out, with each team having at least two games left to play.

Two teams are still fighting for the final playoff spot.

Vancouver - sitting at 17 points. Zero games left to play.
Tampa Bay - sitting at 10 points. Four games left to play.

To clinch the spot, Tampa would need to win all four of their remaining games. To send it to the tiebreaker, they can lose one in overtime while winning the rest. Any other scenario would result in Vancouver heading to LA for game one of their series.

With the Nashville wins last night, the 8 playoff teams are set. Vancouver is in, and will be the 8 seed.

    1. Los Angeles vs. 8. Vancouver
    2. Minnesota / Pittsburgh vs. 7. Chicago
    3. Minnesota / Pittsburgh / New York vs. 6. New York / Boston / Nashville
    4. Pittsburgh / New York / Boston / Nashville vs. 5. New York / Boston / Nashville

Only 6 games remain in the season - and each one of them will have a huge impact on how the jumble in the 2-6 spots shake out.

With only two games remaining in the season, and provided that Minnesota won game #2 against Tampa Bay, here's where we stand:

    1. Los Angeles vs. 8 Vancouver
    2. Minnesota / Pittsburgh vs. 7. Chicago
    3. Minnesota / New York / Pittsburgh vs. 6. Boston / Nashville
    4. New York / Pittsburgh vs. 5. Boston / Nashville

    • If Pittsburgh gets 2 points or more in their series with Nashville, Pittsburgh will clinch the second seed. Minnesota and New York will fill the third and fourth slots respectively.
    • If Pittsburgh gets 1 point in their series with Nashville, they will be tied with Minnesota and go to the tiebreaker for the second seed. New York will fill the fourth slot.
    • If Pittsburgh gets 0 points in their series with Nashville, Minnesota will clinch the second seed. Pittsburgh and New York will be tied for the third seed and go to the tiebreaker.
    • If Nashville gets 2 points or more in their series with Pittsburgh, Nashville will clinch the fifth seed. Boston would then fill the sixth seed.
    • If Nashville gets 1 point in their series with Pittsburgh, Nashville and Boston will be tied for the 5th seed and go to the tiebreaker.
    • If Nashville gets 0 points in their series with Pittsburgh, Boston will clinch the fifth seed. Nashville would then take the sixth seed.

Pittsburgh took 4 points in the final series of the year. Nashville failed to get any.

FINAL PLAYOFF PAIRINGS (unless I screwed something up):

    1. Los Angeles vs. 8. Vancouver
    2. Pittsburgh vs. 7. Chicago
    3. Minnesota vs. 6. Nashville
    4. New York vs. 5. Boston

Cheez, after thinking about it, the best of 5, 5, then 7 works best for 12 teams.

next year in season 3, when we expand, the 7, 7, 7 format will be better.

    thanks..
