Season 2 Recruiting Discussion
Post em up.
why is it that every recruit that has an interest in me has Texas A&M and Iowa ranked higher?
North Carolina signs 4 star guard Nick Harwell.
Harwell has B- run blocking, B- Run blocking strength and C+ Pass block.
Harwell will most likely redshirt his freshman season but should add nice depth to the roster down the road.
Minnesota has 14 scholarships to give out... a much nicer number than last season's. 11 seniors, 68 man roster, plus my 1 additional.
A&M has no signings to date, but is #1 or #2 on nearly all of the 12 guys that we're actively pursuing. I have a bunch of recruits coming in on week 5 or week 6, so that will be telling.
How many scholarships are you passing out this year?
I think i'm going after about 15/16 guys. There is a little more interest this year for Minnesota; hopefully I land a decent class this year. Last year's class was huge, but likely doesn't contain any true impact players.
I don't remember off hand exactly, but I want to say I have 11 seniors, so with the 1 extra that gave me 12 open scholarships to offer. I'll double check tonight though to make sure. I know I'm not targeting that many players, just trying to hit specific positions of need.
This year Minnesota only has 4 "needs": QB, FB, T, and K. This is nice as opposed to last season I believe we needed 9 or 10 positions filled or we would get walk-ons. I'll have to check recruiting when I get home this evening, but hopefully we can fill these spots during the season, allowing us to go after some playmakers later in the year and in the off-season.
I have 13 guys targetted but can only offer scholarships to 12 of them. I have the bulk of the group set up for a week 7 visit, and since I'm currently #1 for all but 3 of them I'm hoping to seal the deal when they come to College Station.
Still no commits after the near debacle against Purdue, but the visit grades seemed pretty good. Hopefully I will get at least one in-week commit this week and reel a few others in within the next 3 weeks.
THe Tar Heels are about to pump out a program changing recruiting class.
you're sitting #1 right now aren't you? 1 5star and 2 4stars?
That would be scary, considering how young and talented that roster is.
No recruits for the Hawks yet. 6 recruits coming to the big game vs Penn State next week!
No signings for A&M yet. But I will have nearly my entire board in for week 7.
2010 Minnesota Recruiting Class
A big Tackle, he will most likely serve as a back-up next year, as I do not have the depth available to redshirt him. Hopefully he can plow the way for the "RidgeRunners".
The Ridgerunners - see Emdot now ya done it!
In other news- Stanford signed their first two recruits of the young season.
4* DT Lee Tanner
4* G Jonathan McDaniel
I would label both DT and G as "need" positions for the Cardinal, so Im happy with the additions.
hahaha.....I told Emmdot I'm going to use it. It's too good not to.
Ole Miss finally secured their first recruit: JUCO DE Alan Torres, ranked 29, 3* C+ speed and Tackle. ehh.
Stanford pulled off a major coup this week, signing #1 wr david mendoza from all the way in south carolina. When asked why, mendoza replied that he liked the idea of playing with andrew luck for 2 years. He also mentioned that the top notch academics were a major pull.
North Carolina has signed two players....
4 star running back Deon Williams and 4 star receiver Brenden Cooper.
Williams has A- speed,B agility, B- stiff arm and spin move.
Cooper has B+ speed, B- catch in traffic, agility and juke.
Both players are likely to red shirt next season with the amount of depth the Heels are returning at each position.
How tall is Cooper? If he's like 6'3" or taller he will be an absolute beast over the middle. Either way, that's a couple of nice recruits.
Still just the Tackle for Minnesota. We had 5 or 6 recruits in for the week 8 game though, so hopefully we lock up a couple or at least get a few soft commits.
I think he is in the 6'3-6'5 range.
New USF Coach nabs 1st recruit, upping total commits to 2.
Sean James (WR #39) Lilburn, GA
6'1" 162 lbs.
Juke Move B
Small, speedy WR will fit into USF's newly adopted West Coast/Power Running hybrid. Should move the chains running Wes Welker-esque routes. USF is excited to have Sean aboard!
