Season 2 - Week 10 Game Summaries
Good luck guys.
Huskies Win Again
Behind an opportunistic defense the Northern Illinois Huskies beat the Chippewas to take sole possession of fist place in the MAC. The Huskie defense recovered two fumbles, one for a 57 yard touchdown and had a big 4th down stop in the red zone in what was by far their best effort this year.
The Huskies (6-2) have won six games in a row, but this is their first victory over a team with a winning record.
"Those Chippewa mother hubbards can play some football. This a real good win for our program," Coach Bumpers said after the game. "But I don't want to be kicking no more golldang Field Goals inside the 10 yard line and for Pete's sake, we need better protection on the offensive line. We finally broke our Quarteback out there today."
QB Chandler Harnish, who has been taking a beating over the past few weeks, left the game in the 4th Quarter with a hip injury and he is out for next week's match-up against Ohio.
Backup QB DeMarcus Grady came in and threw the winning touchdown and two point conversion.
"DeMarcus makes a dang good burrito. He's got a heckuva good salsa verde recipe that is just All-American quality. But he ain't much of a Quarterback. The Rhinoceros is gonna have to dig into his big ole bag of tricks this week and craft some kind of gameplan that will allow the Burrito King lead us to victory and keep the streak alive."
NIU travels to Ohio next week.
Players of the game
NIU - K Ryan Fillingim 3-3 FG, long of 38
Anthony Johnson 7 rec, 128 yards.
CMU - R Radcliff 25 of 37, 246 yards, 2TD
Good win for the huskies
LOL great win and awesome write up as always.
Aztecs falter again, this time at home.
San Diego State 24 vs. Syracuse 28
The San Diego State Aztecs lost another game this week to the Syracuse Orange, leaving them puzzled with a 1-4 record their last 5 games. San Diego State now sits with a 5-5 record.
The Orange jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and extended their lead to 28-3 at the half. San Diego State would score 21 unanswered points in the 3rd quarter, but would be unable to score in the 4th, a 28-24 loss.
"Im frustrated" said Coach E "We just seem to be playing teams that come out and play the best theyve played all season against us. We could be a 9-1 team right now, but we're not so we need to step up."

FIU 13 @ MTSU 6
If you would have asked the analyst before the game what they thought the score would be, you could be the world, they wouldn't have figured this to be a low scoring game, but the Golden Panthers went on the road an had another impressive conference win beating MTSU 13 to 6. We caught up with Coach Stewart after the game.
"You know what we stressed in the bye week that it was time for the defense to step up and carry our team. Our offense all season has kept us in games, that we probably didn't belong in. Today our defense stood up to the challange, and did't let them into the endzone. If you look across college football that is a pretty rare feat and I'm proud of the way our entire team played."

Southern Miss 35
Marshall welcomed Conference USA foe Southern Miss into Huntington Saturday night for a very important conference game for both teams. Playing without senior quarterback Willie Korn, the Herd knew they would have to play a perfect game to win. Things started out bad for Marshall and then got worse as the Golden Eagles won 35-28.
Southern Miss scored on a 3 yard run by Desmond Johnson in the first. Early in the second they struck again, this time on a 31 yard pass from Chris Campbell to Ryan Hanks, giving Southern Miss an early 14-0 lead. Later in the quarter, the Marshall defense forced a Johnson fumble, only to have it scooped up and ran in 40 yards for a touchdown by Mookie Assad. Marshall was able to cap off a scoring drive just before halftime on a 2 yard Martin Ward run, making the halftime score 21-7.
Marshall came out of the locker room at halftime fired up and scored on their first possession on a 1 yard run by fullback Jordan Taylor. Later in the third they would even up the score on a 20 yard strike from backup quarterback Press Taylor to Jamal Wilson. They would stay tied up for all of 71 seconds, as Southern Miss scored on a Tracy Lampley 58 yard dash. A little over 2 minutes later, Assad would score his second touchdown of the game, this time on a 24 yard pass from Campbell. Marshall would pull back to within a score on another goaline touchdown run by Jordan Taylor. Marshall, with less than 3 minutes to play, opted to kick it deep and try to force a punt. It would not play out that way, as the defense simply could not stop Southern Miss's offense.
Press Taylor finished 19 for 39 for 333 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Tightend J Hatten led the Herd with 135 yards on 7 receptions.
The loss drops Marshall to 5-4 overall and 5-1 in the conference. The Herd will welcome rival East Carolina next week.
A Wild One in Provo
UNLV 36 BYU 34 [in 3OT]
What started as a defensive slugfest, ended up a barn burner in 3 OTs. UNLV and BYU traded off TDs, every other quarter. UNLV scoring a TD in the 1st and 3rd quarters (the 2nd of which on a pick 6) and BYU posting theirs in the 2nd and 4th. BYU, who has a horrendous kicker, missed a few FG chances but managed to hold UNLV on two 1st and goals from inside the 5. While the Ds were the story of the first 4 quarters, the offenses would come out firing in overtime.
UNLV scored a TD in the 1st OT followed by a BYU TD run. BYU would run another one in to start the 2nd O, but was matched on a 26 yard TD strike (on 4th down) to tie it up again. UNLV would run in a TD to start the 3rd OT and also punch in the 2 point conversion. BYU wasted little time answering with their own TD but their 2 point conversion pass was broken up, sealing the win for the Rebels.
Will you lose a game, lol
Wow there are some really close games this week.
Haha. I lost to UCLA week 1 and then got murderballed by UVa in week 6. I am sure I'll drop another one or two. I have 2 good teams left. TCU comes to LV and your Lobos come visit to end it all.
yea, just bitter you pulled it out in Provo, good win
Week 10 Tulsa @ UTEP
The Tulsa and UTEP Rivalry game did not disappoint. Tulsa started the game with the ball and Damaris Johnson recived the opening kick and took it the distance only to have it called back for holding. Tulsa was not able to muster any kind of offense in the first quarter. UTEP put the first points of the game on the board late in the first quarter on a 34 yard run by T.White. This sent the crowd into a frenzy.
Tulsa's first possesion of the second quarter ended in a fieldgoal, after L.DeVilliers hooked up with te M.Britton for a big gain. Both teams played great defense and the half ended 7-3 . Coach jv was spoted on his way to the locker room arguing with his offensive cordinator about the teams lack of offense. What ever he said worked and the Tulsa offense came alive in the second half.
Qb L.DeVilliers hit his te for the Golden Hurricanes first td of the game in third quarter. This gave Tulsa a 10-7 lead going into the 4th quarter, and thats all their defense would need too get the job done.
UTEPs first posesion of the 4th quarter ended on a fumble by K.Crum. Tulsa made the most of this oppertunity and drove down the field and scored on a L.DeVilliers td pass too te M.Britton to make it 17-7 in the fourth. UTEP was not gonna go down without a fight, they marched down the field with ease and looked poised too make it a 3 point game when rb T.White fumbled the ball at the Tulsa 10. Tulsa was now backed up too their own goalline and coach jv called on rb C.Opeseyitan too give them a little breathing room. C.Opeseyitan took the handoff from the tulsa 10 and never looked back as he sprinted 90 yards for the dagger that sent the Minor fans home early.
Good game UTEP!!!
Great write up, great game. You were able to take advantage of my mistakes and turnovers and made me pay. Almost completely even stats except for two, turnovers and points. Look forward to the rematch next year!!
Good game guys
How the heck do you pronounce the Tulsa HB's name?!?!?!
Separate names with a comma.
