Although this is Season 3 this was actually the Jets 1st game with the New Owner under full control. The Jets were able to sneak past the New England Patriots 30-23. Box Score: http://www.daddyleagues.com/mba/gamerecap/2373140 With Ryan Fitzpatrick gone Geno Smith once again stepped under center giving every Jet fan in the Tri-State area bad memories, almost as bad as the butt fumble. However Geno proved to be serviceable going 17/21 for 238 yds and 2 td's but more importantly he didn't turn the ball over a big problem for him last year after throwing a league high 31 interceptions.... that's not a typo. Yet Geno does have room for improvement three of those incompletions were terribly thrown balls within 10 yards of the LOS. Recently signed Doug Martin was serviceable in keeping the opponents defense honest but could use a lot of improvement as he went for 68 yds on 21 rushes, adding 66 yds on 5 catches and a touchdown. In the receiving corp TE Larry Donnell led the way with 6 receptions amounting to 39 yards while Brandon Marshall had 85 yards, the majority of those came on a 63 yard catch and run the longest play of the day. The shining star was definitely the Jets defense although the secondary seemed porous at times, giving up 356 yards through the air. However both safeties Calvin Pryor and Alan Ball came up huge with 2 interceptions, Ball's being a late game pick 6. The rush defense was stout as to be expected with a front three of Muhammad Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson, and Damon Harrison, who seemed to be on a mission after a Pre-Season review listed the Raiders as having the best rushing duo in the MBA. The Patriots only managed a paltry 14 yards on 15 attempts 0.93 yards per attempt. 5th year OLB Quinton Coples added 2 sacks building confidence with the fans in HC Lovie Smith's decision to switch to a 3-4 defense. Although a victory this one must be taken with a grain of salt beating this Patriots team isn't the same as it used to be with Tom Brady now out of Foxborough and enshrined in Canton. Jimmy Garoppolo is now under center, although that may change as news out of Foxborough is that Ryan Fitzpatrick has been signed (adding more bad blood to one of the biggest rivalry's in football). Garoppolo threw for 356 yards with 2 touchdowns but 2 big interceptions. Dion Lewis took the bulk of the rush attempts but only managed 10 yards on 13 attempts. Charles Johnson's stock took a big rise in New England as he led the way with 7 receptions 108 yards and a touchdown, keep in mind he played in 9 games last year and only ended up with 188 yards 17 receptions and 1 touchdown, on pace to blow past his numbers from last year. The Patriots almost had a huge momentum swing after an originally ruled Eric Decker fumble but the call on the field was reversed giving the Jets the victory in the turnover battle at +2. The Jets (1-0) visit Miami to take on the AFC East division rival Dolphins (0-1) next. New England (0-1) goes home to Foxborough to take on the New Orleans Saints (1-0).
