2017 record: 12-4 (NFC East Champs)

The Giants seen their second straight 12-4 season end to the Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs. This year they made it one step further though to the conference championship game. After starting the season 10-1 OBJ was injured in the week 12 game against the Broncos and wouldn't return until the conference championship. The Giants dropped 3 of their last 5 and their offense never seemed to recover. There was speculation of a Eli Manning retirement after the season in the media but he was let go from the team before his 2018 cap number took effect.

Key Losses: Eli Manning (Cut), DRC (Cut), and Kenny Bell (FA)

The Giants were forced into tough decisions with two aging superstars but the situations were completely different. Eli Manning had seen his skills deteriorate and the Giants were looking long term at the 24 million he was due in two years. The Owner begged Eli to retire but when the deadline approached there was no choice left but a nasty divorce. DRC was one of the owners favorites. He was cut after it looked like the Patriots were targeting Mathew Stafford in FA. The Giants needed to free cap to ensure they landed their target and with one year left and a 7.5 million cap clear, DRC was the unfortunate casualty. Most of you probably are unaware of Kenny Bell but he had a solid couple years in NY and even seen time in the #2 role with OBJ getting injured. The time had come for him in New York though and he was set free.

    Free Agency Additions:

Telvin Smith (MLB): 5 years 54.7 million
The Giants defense finished in the top 7 for the second straight year but once again their suspect LB Corp was abused in the playoffs against the Eagles. Telvin is a great coverage LB and should give New York more flexibility to play man coverage.

Mathew Stafford (QB): 3 years 13.1 million
The Giants were planning on addressing their defense with the #7 pick and so signed Stafford to make sure they had a viable option at QB.

Trey Millard (FB): 3 years 2.16 million
Giants were able to get their receiving FB back. Two years removed from a pro bowl appearance he will no longer be splitting time. Can he get back to pro bowl form?

    Tenny Palepoi (LE ): 2 years 1.48
Depth pick up as Giants change to a hybrid 3-4 defense

Sean Smith (CB): 1 year 2.5 million
Will be depth CB as the Giants prepare Zach Sanchez to take over #2 CB duties

    Jordan Berry (P): 4 years 2.88 million
    He punts and shit

    2017 Draft:

The Giants were excited heading into this draft with two first rd picks after dealing Janoris Jenkins a year ago. They had multiple targets and felt confident about pulling together a good draft.

    1st RD Pick 7:
The Giants primary target gone there was much debate on what to do here. In the end it was decided they could not pass up on the opportunity to bring in their new franchise QB.

    1st RD Pick 30:

Funny thing here, the Giants had actually made a deal with the Bengals to trade to 16 and take him there. The Bengals never received the final offer though and the Giants guy dropped to them anyway. He is going to be an instant starter in all packages minus the 4-3 looks. Should be a force in the pass rush department.

    RD 2 pick 30:

The Giants last need was WR but they could not pass this guy up. He will take over the slot WR role and gives Suggs another legit target.

    RD 3 pick 30:

    Conor Craft DT 70 ovr
Needs development but a raw prospect

    RD 4 pick 7:

    Josh Rinehart LOLB 70 ovr
Solid pass rusher. Needs to learn at this level but has the skills to become a quality player.

    RD 4 pick 30:

    Max Bjornson LE 68 ovr
Has the size and BSH to be a quality backup for 3-4 sets.

    RD 5 pick 30:

    Chris Hoover RE 68 ovr
Watch out for this kid. With the right development he could become a starter. He just needs work in a couple areas but has all the physical tools.

    RD 6 pick 30:

    Latavien Latino WR 66 ovr

Has a 6'6" frame and good catching and speed. RTE is low but the Giants are excited about this prospect.

    RD 7 pick 30

    Angel Connor CB 60 ovr

Decent player just doesn't know the game. Doubt he will ever become a starter but with some work could become a solid backup.

    2018 projections:

The Giants seem like an improved team across the board but what impact will the loss of DRC have on a defense that has excelled in takeaways. Offensively the pieces are there as long as the rookie Suggs can develop and take care of the ball. I believe this team will find themselves in the playoff mix again and hopefully compete for the division.

    Projected Starting Line up

    QB: D'Ambro Suggs
Rookie shouldn't be looking over his shoulder as we are hearing he has the job locked down.

    HB: Leventrice Kitchen
Arguably the best dual threat back in the league. Will he find himself in the MVP discussion again

    FB: Trey Millard
He started 12 games two years ago and was a pro bowler for the Giants. Has split time recently but he is the man this year.

WR: OBJ, Sterling Sheppard, Stephon Walker
Arguably the best WR corp in the league and they are all 25 or younger. The 5 deep features more talent with Pemberton and Labinjo.

    TE: Will Tye
The best route running TE in the league. Had a couple decent years with Manning but will a QB change help him realize his potential?

    LT: Ereck Flowers
    Coming off his first PB

    LG: Justin Pugh
Also a PB player in 2017

    C: Weston Richburg
    Solid Caroline

    RG: Kendrum Troupe
Second year guard looking to develop farther

    RT: Jordan Mills
    Average at best.

    LE: Johnathan Hankins
Moves from DT in 3-4 sets. Will still play DT in 4-3 sets.

    RE: JPP
Probably his last year as a starter. Has made two straight pro bowls but skills are diminishing.

    DT: Damon Harrison
Big boy playing where he belongs.

    LOLB: Olivier Vernon
Should flourish in his new role. Has picked up quickly in pass coverage.

MLB: Telvin Smith and B.J. Goodson
Solid group in the middle. Fast and great tackles. Telvin makes up for Goodson's limited ability in passing defense.

ROLB: Brady Devoir and Devon Kennard
Devoir will start in all packages but one 4-3 set. Kennard will still see the field in different looks and is this defenses equivalent to a NBA 6th man.

CB: Eli Apple, Zach Sanchez, Sean Smith

Sanchez steps into the number two role after a 7 interception season in the slot. Eli Apple is becoming one of the best in the league and Sean Smith is here to teach a group that's average age is 23.

    FS: Darian Thompson
A turnover machine in his two years in the league. Guy is progressing nicely.

    SS: Landon Collins, Marqui Christian
Landon will be the starter in all formations but Christian does have a "Deone Buchanon" package in the dime.

    K: Randy Bullock

    P: Jordan Berry

Giants are stoked and ready to get the season underway.
