    Carolina 21

The Buccaneers get new Coach RV his first win, beating the Panthers 29-21 in a game that was a tale of 2 halves.

The first half was dominated by the defenses. Both teams seemed a bit skiddish and unsure of themselves. The Buccs got an early jump, going up 10-0 after rookie JJ Smoke picks off his first career interception, and Tampa is able to get a FG out of it. Tampa was driving again, when DT Frank Alexander shows his incredible athleticism, picking off a Josh Freeman pass over the middle. The very next play, Newton finds WR Brandon LaFell, who welcomes JJ Smoke to the NFL with a stiff arm to the helmet, and takes the pass 36 yds for the TD to make it a 13-7 game.

The offense cranked up in the 2nd half, as the 2 teams traded big plays. Freeman found HB Bell on a screen pass, that Bell was able to run in from 56 yards. The following drive, Cam completes it to TE Greg Olsen for a 79 yard TD on an obvious blown coverage by the Tampa safeties. Carolina gets a defensive stop and puts together an impressive drive, to take a 21-20 lead late in the game. The Panthers safeties then blow a coverage of their own, as WR Jalen Williams scores on a 74 yard TD pass to seal the victory for the Buccaneers.

Cardinals survive despite having 5 turnovers and a measly 3 points offensively for a final of 24-22. John Skelton had arguably his worst game of his career with a total quarterback rating of just 8.5 and 3 interceptions with a whopping ZERO TD's. "Skelty" was 6/20 for a 101 yards. To Skelton's defense all-pro wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald dropped 4 give-me passes which is very uncharacteristic of him. 2nd year TE Luke Vinal also had a dropped pass in the game. Michael Floyd and rookie Jawara Baxter both had critical fumbles recovered by the opposition to add to insult. Although the Cardinals defense ended giving up 371 yards of total offense the defense forced the Seahawks to kick 3 FG's in the red zone. Thankfully for the Cardinals D. Washington was able to intercept J. Norwell for a 49 yard INT return for a TD followed by an A. Wilson 19 yard fumble recovery for a TD. Before halftime Patrick Peterson would return a kick-off 101 yards to the house to make the score 24-13 at halftime. The second half was a story of two tough defenses battling it out. 9 total turn overs in this game were committed and the Seahawks almost pulled off the upset against the Champs who quite frankly should be concerned with their poor play offensively. At the end of the day a win is a win but don't expect Coach Crunk_Ness to sit back and let these guys make poor decisions with out some heads rollin'!!!

Chiefs Embarrass Colts In Season Opener

INDIANAPOLIS, In. -- The Kansas City Chiefs came out aggressive and never let up. After 3 forced turnovers and 7 sacks, the Chiefs left Indianapolis with a 45-0 shutout over the Colts. After a Dwayne Bowe touchdown catch late in the first quarter, the Chiefs never looked back. Less than a minute later, Brandon Flowers intercepted Andrew Luck and returned in 43 yards for a score. With the way the Chiefs defense played, that was more than enough for the win. The Kansas City Chiefs will look to have a repeat effort next week against division rivals San Diego Chargers. The Colts will travel to Chicago looking to rebound.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn --- The Vikings lost several key players in the offseason and there were questions as to whether they would be able to maintain the high level of play they played at much of last season. If one game can be an indication, they answer is yes.

The Vikings struggled early on defensively and the first half was a classic Vikings-Packers battle. However, Minnesota made the necessary adjustments at halftime and controlled much of the second half ending with a sound 27-13 win.

Second-year quarterback Brett Ray made the most of his first NFL start by completing 13-of-15 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns posting a perfect 158.3 QB Rating. There were questions surrounding Ray and how well he could replace Kurt Warner who retired in the offseason. However, Ray looked like a poised veteran dissected the Packer defense when he was given the opportunity.

Adrian Peterson remains the focal point of the Vikings' offense and once again showed how much he loves to beat up on the Packers. Peterson rushed for 142 yards and a touchdown on the day setting the tone for what will likely be another MVP caliber season.

The Vikings will hit the road next week as they head to Arizona for a NFC Championship game rematch with the eventual Super Bowl winners in Glendale. The Packers, meanwhile, get welcomed back to Green Bay by the defending AFC Champion Tennessee Titans.

Lions "Best" Texans in opener 41 to 17
Detroit came out in the season opener firing on all cylinders as they looked to revamp their anemic rushing attack from last year ... Jahvid Best now gets the starting nod and it paid off as he rushed 14 times for 100 yds while scoring 3 times ... Mikel LeShoure also contributed on 13 carries for 69 yds ... and in a turn of events for the Lions aerial attack, well they basically took the day off ... no receiver had over 45 yds catching and Stafford was held to 186 yds passing
The Detroit defense came to play as they held the Houston to just 224 yds of total offense, of which 206 was through the air ... The defensive line combination of Avril, Clayborn, and Suh wrecked havoc all day as they recovered two fumbles and sacked Schaub twice ... FS Delmas would also pick Schaub twice while Newman added a third interception on the day

    RAMS 23
    BEARS 21

The year started off the way last year ended and that is with a notch in the "W" column. People thought the way the Rams ended last year and the way they went 4-0 in the preseason was all just because they had a new "voice" in the locker room. The Rams wanted to show that they were for real as they started off the season with a win against the Bears. Austin Duncan in his 1st career NFL start played very well not making mistakes and taking what the defense gave him. Duncan threw for 196 yards and a touchdown while connecting with 6 different receivers. The Rams had themselves a 20-7 lead going into the 4th quarter after Chris Givens 104 yard kick return for a touchdown. In the 4th quarter the Bears took the lead with a Darren Sproles touchdown after Rams rookie kicker Dylan Litchfield missed a 53 yard FG to ice the game. After the TD, Austin Duncan drove down the field hitting a huge completion to free agent signee Austin Collie. Two runs by Steven Jackson got the Rams closer for another shot for Litchfield to win the game and the rookie kicker nailed it. Next week the Rams take on the Seattle Seahawks.

    Passing
    Austin Duncan 20 for 30 196 yards 1 TD
    Michael Pfeifer 15 for 22 190 yards 1 TD

    Rushing
Steven Jackson 20 carries 78 yards
    Darren Sproles 20 carries 55 yards 2 TD's

    Receiving
Danny Amendola 7 receptions 46 yards
Austin Collie 5 receptions 63 yards
    Brandon Marshall 4 receptions 37 yards 1 TD's
Dylan Brown 4 receptions 84 yards

    Defense
    Tim Dobbins 8 tackles
    Daryl Smith 7 tackles

Cincinnati DT Geno Atkins returned a fumble 25 yards for a TD late in the 3rd Quarter to break a 3-3 tie and the Bengals' stingy defense held Tennessee scoreless in the final period to pull out a tough victory in their home opener. Both offenses started off slow and had anemic performances with neither team gaining more than 250 yards. Tennessee took advantage of an early pick thrown by Cincinnati QB Andy Dalton and converted a short FG to take a 3-0 lead in the 2nd Quarter, but the Bengals would answer back with a FG of their own to tie it up at 3 going into Halftime in this action-packed contest!
Both offenses still looked sluggish in the 2nd Half, and it took until early in the 4th for the first offensive TD of the game to be scored when Dalton hit WR AJ Green from about 10 yards out. Both teams will need improve their play on offense if they hope to contend in the AFC this season.
    Tennessee
QB Jake Locker - 13/22, 131 YDS, INT
HB Chris Johnson - 10 RUSH, 30 YDS
TE Jared Cook Jr - 5 REC, 66 YDS
SS Darian Stewart - 3 TKLS, 2 INT
    Cincinnati
QB Andy Dalton - 10/15, 144 YDS, TD, 2 INT
HB Bull Griggs - 18 RUSH, 93 YDS
WR AJ Green - 4 REC, 59 YDS, TD
DT Geno Atkins - 2 TKLS, SCK, FR, TD
