    Season 3 - Week 2 Game Summaries

Lots of user vs user games this week. Only the winner is required to do a write up. The losing team can just post a response out of sportsmanship. Good Luck everyone and work together on scheduling.

    Huskies fall to Ilinini

    ILLINOIS 48
    NIU 27

Huskies were trounced by in-sate rival Illinois today. Huskie QB Deron Brown threw for 394 yards and 3 TDs but had 3 interceptions and a lost fumble. The Huskie offensive line gave up 5 sacks and Brown was on the run all day long.

"You can't turn the golldanged ball over four times and expect to win," Coach Jerry Bumpers said after the game. "We got a bunch of new fellas starting and they had that look you get when you're a little kid and you walk into your parent's room and see them doing awful things to each other. I need to erase today from my memory. I'm going on a bender."

    Players of the game:
NIU WR Martel Moore 10 Rec, 179 yards, TD
    Ill M. Cox 20 Car, 110 yards, 3 TDs

It doesn't get any easier next week when NIU travels to Pitt.

Virginia Fends Off Texas Tech at Home

The Cavaliers are 2-0, matching last season's win total

Virginia 49 vs. Texas Tech 25

The Virginia Cavaliers were able to knock off Texas Tech and home this week in Charlottesville by a margin of 25 points. "I'm really proud of how our guys played today," said Coach E "They came out firing on all cylinders and never backed down."

The Cavaliers forced a fumble on the opening kickoff which later resulted in a touchdown. They went on the score two more touchdowns in the first, giving them a 21-0 lead after the first quarter, and never looked back. "We were great on both sides of the ball, it makes things much easier as a coach when everyone is playing well."

Cavalier HB Torrey Mack looks to be making a bid as a Heisman candidate. Mack carried the ball 23 times for 215 yards and 5 TD. QB Michael Strauss was 8-11 for 128 yards and 1 TD.

"Texas Tech is going to be a very good team for years to come," said Coach E "They're athletic and have a heck of a good coach, I am excited to see what this rivalry will bring in years to come."

    Virginia Stats:

Passing ATT Comp Yards TD Int
    Michael Strauss 11 8 128 1 0

    Rushing ATT Yards TD Long
    Torrey Mack 23 215 5 44
    Dominique Wallace 6 34 0 12
    Michael Strauss 3 14 1 13

    Receiving Catches Yards TD Long
    Colter Phillips 3 70 0 43
    Javaris Brown 3 46 1 19
    Zach Swanson 1 6 0 6
    Quintin Hunter 1 6 0 6

    Texas Tech Stats:

Passing ATT Comp Yards TD Int
    Seth Doege 19 8 222 3 1

    Rushing ATT Yards TD Long
    Delans Griffin 14 59 0 18

    Receiving Catches Yards TD Long
    Johnny Brown 4 100 2 51
    Austin Zouzalik 1 59 1 59
    Cornelius Douglas 1 24 0 24
    Eric Ward 1 22 0 22
    David Booker 1 17 0 17

The Cavaliers will play host to conference foe Wake Forest next week in hopes of a 3-0 start. This should be an interesting matchup since Wake Forest was one of the schools looking to hire Coach E before the season started.

New Offensive Gameplan Sparks ECU's 23-14 Victory Over Indiana

    East Carolina

After last week's heartbreaking loss the Pirates decided that it was time to bring in a new offensive gameplan. They had lost most of their threats at the wide receiver position but had gained an outstanding HB via transfer by the name of Matt Brown, so it was time to switch over to a more balanced approach. In the 23-14 victory this week ECU decided to have the run game be a main focus today, and Brown didn't disappoint as he racked up 104 yards on 26 carries, while also scoring the only offensive touchdown on the day for the Pirates. Brad Wornick continues his early season struggles, going 18-31 for 263 yards and an interception (which was returned for a touchdown) but unlike last week, his mistakes didn't prove too costly against Indiana. Once again the ECU defense played great, only allowing 7 points as they were the key to today's victory. The defense limited Dusty Kiel to 13-28 passing for 167 yards and 2 interceptions, one of which was returned to the house by the leader of the defense, MLB Justin Jones. Next week the 1-1 Pirates go on the road for the first time this season as they face Fresno State.

    Spurrier's Cocks Upset

South Carolina came into this game ranked # 22 in the country and was looking past this Tulsa matchup. Tulsa punched SC in the mouth in the first quater when Junior saftey D.McCoil picked off A.Cliffords pass and took it too the house. SC answered back with a 65 yard touchdown pass too Te J.Cunningham too tie the game at 7 all. Tulsa's next drive saw Rb's D.Nelson and E.Williams run all over SC's defense and finished on a 18 yard touchdown run by Williams to give Tulsa a 14-7 lead too end the first quarter.

Early in the second quarter Tulsa's Qb S.Beaver threw SC's defense a gift pick six that tied the game at 14. Neither offense got any thing going in second until Tulsa put together a long drive that ended with a 23 yard field goal by T.Clay that gave tulsa a three point lead going into halftime.

In the third quarter the offenses came to life and SC would get things started with a 41 yard bomb to DL.Moore. Unphased the Tulsa Rb tandem went to work again and E.Williams found the endzone from 47 yards out. Tulsa's D would slow SC and give the ball back too Their offense. After another long running drive Tulsa found the endzone one more time on a one yard run by Qb S.Beaver too give Tulsa a 10 point lead going into the 4th quarter.

Both defenses stepped up in the 4th quarter until SC Rb M.Lattimore found the endzone to bring SC within 3 late in the fourth. Tulsa was able too run the clock out on their next drive.

    Lobos 14 Wyoming Cowboys 13

Coach Maij's return to the sideline was almost spoiled by Cowboys. New Mexico would pull off the win in a close battle with Wyoming in Laramie. The Cowboys defense would shut doen the new look spread of the Lobos, but enough plays were made by backup QB Darian Godfrey to get the win. Many question were answered by the defensive unit of the Lobos as JR. defensive lineman Calvin Smith would have his way with the Wyoming O-line nabbing 7 tackles, 2 sacks and a pass defensed from his tackle position. The win leaves the Lobos at 1-1 and undeafeated in Mountain West play. Next the Lobos will host the Rams of Colorado State after their bye.

    Week 2

    Marshall 49
    West Virginia 42

Marshall traveled to Morgantown this week to take on the Mountaineers and came away with their first win ever in what can now be called a rivalry.

Marshall started fast in a game filled with big plays and lots of points when Eddie Sullivan hit Aaron Dobson for an 81 yard touchdown pass. West Virginia answered on their next possession when DaQuan Hargrett took a handoff and scampered 63 yards into the endzone. 15 seconds later it was Andre Booker racing 78 yards for a touchdown run putting Marshall back up 14-7. Geno Smith capped another West Virginia scoring drive when he hit Ivan McCartney for a 10 yard scoring strike. Sullivan hit Fred Pickett from 25 yards out to break the 14 all tie. With time running down in the first half, Tyler Bitancourt nailed a 63 yard field goal to make the halftime score 21-17 Marshall.

Hargrett started the second half scoring on a 10 yard scoring run, giving West Viginia it's first lead. Booker answered back with a 6 yard scoring run of his own. Another Bitancourt field goal made the score 28-27 Marshall, heading to the fourth. Booker scored on a 14 yard run with about 4 minutes remaining in the game, giving the Herd an 8 point lead. Then the fireworks started...Hargrett broke a 9 yard run for touchdown with 1:32 left. The 2 point conversion tied the game. On the ensuing kickoff, Antavious Wilson returned it 105 yards for a touchdown, putting Marshall back up by 7. After a turnover, and trying to run out the clock, Booker broke loose again, this time from 74 yards, putting Marshall up by 14. West Virginia would score once more when Geno Smith hit Stedman Bailey from 24 yards out.

Sullivan finished 7-13 for 176 yards and 2 touchdowns. Andre Booker had a career day with 286 yards and 4 touchdowns on 22 carries. Marshall (2-0) will welcome the Ohio Bobcats (1-1) next week.
