ULL Knocks Off Southwest Texas State
    Cajuns Bob 'Cats 38-27
San Marcos, TX- ULL visited the Texas State Bobcats in San Marcos on Saturday, and finished off the 'Cats for the 3rd time in 3 seasons. True freshman Jammal Dodd made his first start, and played very well.

ULL fell behind quickly in San Marcos, but after the 56 yard strike from Fred Nixon to Brandon Smith Texas State went scoreless for the rest of the quarter and allowed the Cajuns to take a 14-7 lead behind a 5 yard run from WR Joey Cunningham and a 6 yard score from Effrem Reed. Demun Mercer and Fred Nixon hooked up for a 75 yard score to knot the game back up at 14 with 7:45 left. just over a minute and a half later Reed scored his second TD of the day on a 20 yard scamper to take a 21-14 lead with 6:02 left. Texas State added 2 FG to close the scoring for the first half and close the gap to 21-20.

Most of the 3rd was a defensive battle, as both teams forced punts much of the quarter. The next score didn't happen until Jammal Dodd scored on a designed run from 3 yards out to stretch the Cajun lead to 28-20 heading into the 4th quarter. The Ragin Cajuns hit the score board next, with Dodd hooking up with Kyle Matthews for a 15 yard score and a 35-20 lead.

Texas State narrowed the gap one more time when Nixon found Brandon Smith for their second scoring hookup of the night with 6:37 left in the game. Unfortunately ULL retook a 2 posession lead with a 24 yard FG from Daniel Cadona to cap the scoring.

During the game Effrem Reed didn't jump off the screen, but he ended up with a 21 carry, 147 yard 2 TD night, and despite only receiving 4 carries Torrey Pierce topped the 100 yard mark as well with 105 yards on 4 touches. Dodd never got to shake loose, but he carried 10 times for 7 yards and a score. Where he surprised was the passing game. Dodd was 15/19 for 165 yards 1 TD and most importantly 0 interceptions. Despite 2 and 3/4 seasons in Lafayette this was the first game that the Ragin Cajuns played turnover free ball for Coach Jenkins.

ULL totalled 429 yards of offense 264 on the ground and 165 through the air. Texas State racked up 265 yards passing, 93 yards rushing anf a total of 358 yards of offense. Fred Nixon finished 12/21 for 265 yards and 3 TD's, Best paced the running game with 66 yards on 10 carries. Mercer topped the 100 ayrd mark, and Smith racked up 96 and 2 TD's.
