San Jose State vs #13 Stanford

Stanford scores 21 in the fourth qtr, but was it enough to overcome the San Jose State Spartans. More to come tomorrow at 8......

Stanford would get the ball on their opening possession and drive down the field for the first score of the game:

Andrew Luck would hit Ryan Whalen for a 30 yd td pass to go up 7-0 in the first qtr

San Jose State would respond with a td drive of their own to tie the game at 7-7 at the end of one.

Stanford would again get the ball. This time after a interception from the Cardinal defense. Stanford's Stepfan Taylor would punch it in to put them back up 14-7.

Stepfan Taylor scores from 3 yds out to put Stanford ahead in the game. Taylor has lead the Cardinals in the abscence of Toby Gerhart. He rushed 27 times for 88 yds and 3 td's.

San Jose State would respond with another tactical drive to tie the game at 14-14 with 2:43 remaining before the half. Stanford would get a late rushing score from Taylor as time expired to take a 21-14 lead.

Both defenses stood up in the third qtr. San Jose State was able to tie the game with a td run. The game was tied and the fourth qtr was set; 21-21.

Stanford was on the move at the end of the third qtr. They capped the drive of with a 6 yd td pass from Luck to C. Fleener, to take a 28-21 lead with virtually all the fourth qtr still remaining.

Luck has all day to complete this pass to Fleener. It was Luck's second td pass of the day.

As they had done all day long, San Jose St. tied the game once again through the air. K. Reed hit M. Avery for a 30 precision pass to tie the game for the the fourth time. Stanford go the ball once more and ran something not usually seen from the Cardinals. The ran a speed option and caught the Spartans by surprise. Luck would pitch the ball just before getting tatoed by the San Jose St. LB. Taylor would take the pitch and score from 12 yds out. Stanford back on top, 35-28 with 3:44 remaining.

Taylor takes the pitch 12 yds for the score.

San Jose St had one last opportunity to try to tie the game when this happened:

Senior DT, Ekom Udofia recovers the fumble and returns it for a td to seal the win for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals remain undefeated with the win over San Jose St. Next week, Stanford travels to El Paso, Texas to take on the Miners of UTEP.

    Final Score:

    San Jose St.: 28

    Stanford: 42

The Toledo Rockets were overmatched in the game against Miami. Miami had much better offense and held Toledo to a minimum on defense. Teh only difference in the game was Miami's 3 missed FG and two interceptions in the red zone. If it werent for those blunders they would have upset MAC favorite Toledo.

The Rockets offense was led by Aaron Opelt who threw for 281 yards with 4 TD passes, 3 of which were to Stephen Williams who eclipsed the 1,000 receiving yards mark in the game. Opelt completed 21 of 36 passes and ended with a 155 QB rating. WR Eric Page caught 3 passes for 33 yards on 1 TD. The rushing game was stuffed by Miami with Collins rushing for 28 yards on 9 carries. Opelt rushed for 35 yards on 6 QB keepers with 1 TD.

Toledo's defense was led by NFL prospect Barry Church who had 13 tackles, 7 TFL, 2 Sacks, and 1 interception. This puts Church at 105 tackles for the season which is 83 tackles less than the All-Time single season tackles leader Lawrence Flugence. SS Richmond added another 11 tackles with 1 TFL and 1 Interception. DE Westbrook recorded 2 sacks.

The Toledo Rockets (8-1,5-0) will look forward to a bye next week to prepare for their conference battle with Central Michigan. CMU was picked to win the MAC conference and it will be a great game.
