FSU is starting several new faces this year, I'm not including the juco's who are in the starting lineup, just the froshies.

QB Brenton Newby (starter), 16-19 passing, 287 yards, 1 TD/1 INT passing, 13 carries for 67 yards and 1 TD rushing
HB Andy Frank (starter), 21 carries for 147 yards and 2 TD
WR Maurice Jones (4th WR), 1 catch for 27 yards
CB Alan Minor (3rd CB), no stats
CB Timothy Irvin (4th CB), 2 tackles

HB Michael Vickers is one freshman who could see a lot of early playing time for OSU. Roderick Smith is expected to start at HB but Vickers is the #2 back. He provides a nice change of pace and could create matchup problems for defenses with his speed. Vickers will also be playing on special teams as the #2 kick returner and the #1 punt returner.

With a large senior class the remaining freshmen are unlikley to see significant time. The only other recruit who is expected to see the field is JUCO JR Antonio Murray, who is the Buckeyes starting tight end.

RS-Freshman J.R. Davis is the only freshman that will see any playing time. He will be in a battle for the starting spot with RS-JR Traylon Shead.

    J.R. Davis: 88ovr / 90spd / 87accl / 89btk

Is JR Davis the guy who was the #1 HB in the offseason recruits? I was curious what his stats were going to be.

I assume it went to braves qb, wasn't he a freshman?

Although my freshman DE Jeremy Miller finished 3rd in the nation in sacks with 11 and was a 1st team AA.

I have several freshman that are starting, but I'll wait til midseason or so before posting candidates. Gotta wait for the stats to come in, they don't lie.

Thought I'd get this discussion going again, since we are nearing the end of the year:

    FSU Freshmen:

QB Brenton Newby - 113-168 passing, 2087 yards, 15 TD, 6 INT, 75 carries for 302 yards rushing and 5 TD
HB Andy Frank - 124 carries for 801 yards and 15 TD, 20 catches for 261 yards

I have some others that are contributing, but these two guys are pretty much the center of my offense this year. The future looks bright in Seminole land for the next 2 season with these two in the fold.

Texas' only contributing freshman lost his starting job and is now splitting time at running back so his numbers are not outstanding.
123 carries for 780 yards with 12 tds
5 recptions for 81 yards with 2 tds.

    Final regular season stats

HB Michael Vickers 90 carries 383 yards 3 TD; 17 receptions 323 yards 3 TD
HB Gary Nealy 69 carries 286 yards 6 TD
CB Dave Hadley 18 tackles 1 fumble recovery

Vickers and Nealy will have a bigger role next season if Roderick Smith leaves early. Hadley will jump from #5 to #2 with the Buckeyes having 3 senior cornerbacks.

Tar Heels started 3 freshmen all season on defense and a 4th started most of the season:

Jason Archie (LE): 22 Tackles, 10 TFL, 2 Sacks, 1 FF, 1 FR (pretty sure he returned that fumble for a TD)

Jelani Hayes (CB): 29 Tackles, 5 TFL, 1 Sacks, 1 FF, 1 INT

Willie Thomas (FS): 34 Tackles, 2 TFL

Aaron Holmes (SS): 33 Tackles, 7 TFL

Also, on offense Chad Smith (HB) got significant playtime and started a few games when Giovanni Bernard was out: 66 rushes for 267 yards (2 TDs), 7 catches for 44 yards.

FSU freshmen prior to the bowl season:

QB Brenton Newby - 3,073 yards passing with 26 TD and 9 INT, 497 yards rushing and 9 TD
HB Andy Frank - 1,297 yards rushing and 20 TD, 399 yards receiving and 2 TD

I had 2 CB's that were my 3rd and 4th corner, but they didn't do much.

Everyone-please post one vote for the offensive and defensive freshmen of the year from the candidates posted. No voting for your own players. I'll tabulate the votes and post the winner tmorrow night.
