Cal wins Big Game in Overtime

Nobody knocked over a trumpet player but it was an exciting game nonetheless, especially if you like missed field goals.

Cal's Dasarte Yarnway was beastly as he rushed for 160 yards on 22 carries and 4 TDs. Yarnway gave Cal an early 7-0 lead. Stanford answered with a 15 yard TD to TE Levine Toilolo. And Yarnway added his second TD. And it was Cal 14, Stanford 7 at half time.

Stanford evened it up in the 3rd quarter. And with four minutes left to play in the game, Cal was driving for the go ahead score. The famously inaccurate QB Brett Powell, making only his second start of his career, rolled right and tried to float a pass over the head of MLB Ben Gardner to his Tight End. But Gardner picked off the errant pass and ran it back for a 62 yard touchdown. 21-14 Stanford lead.

Powell redeemed himself by leading the Bears on a quick touchdown drive to tie the game. Stanford went three and out and was forced to punt with less than a minute to play. Cal quickly drove into field goal range, but with 6 seconds left, and the kicker iced, Cal's kicker missed the winning chip shot field goal.

Not to be outdone in overtime, Stanford's kicker missed his own chip shot (his second miss of the day). And Yarnway added his fourth TD to win the game.

Both of these programs are early in the rebuilding phase and we look forward to more thrilling (hopefully more skillful) match-ups in the future.

Good game bro. You might have a bad QB but your HB is a beast. Hopefully we can get some skilled players and have a better game next year.
